How to open project from source code in Visual Studio 2005 - asp.net

I am using .net 2.0 version. I am beginner and have started learning .net framework. I have sound experience in php development, so i know in outs of web development.
The reason I am using version 2.0 is because my current company website is in 2.0 and they are not ready to shift to 4.5
My senior has given me project files but now i don't know how to add that project in microsoft visual studio 2005. Below is screen shot of files i have :
I need to know how can i add this in MVS 2005.
Thanks in Advance..

In Visual Studio : open -> website - > click on root of folder works for me. Thanks :)

You need the solution files to open it in Visual studio. From the screen shot that you have shared, it looks like someone gave you deployed file. When you publish from visual studio you get the files seen in your screen shot.
So ask your senior to give you the "actual" source code.

Which IDE for VB.NET code built on .NET framework 2.5?

I used to use MS Visual Web Development (VWD) Express 2008 as IDE for a website which was developed on .NET framework 2.5 with VB.NET and runs on IIS 7 originally. About a year ago, MS stopped downloading the VWD Express 2008 and now I am in need of an IDE for my old VB.NET website. Which IDE will allow me to maintain this old VB.NET website?
Here is the detail info of VS 2019 community installed:
Here is screen shot of the existing project I am maintaining.
You can go with Visual Studio Express.
(edit: It is now called Visual Studio Community Edition).
It should work fine. To be honest, I never used Visual Web Developer.
Just keep in mind, that you want to open the project as a web site, and NOT a project. Quite sure that's how VW developer worked and was setup.
I'm not even sure they have VW developer anymore, but Visual Studio Express 2019 should be able to open + work on that web site.
So, to open a web application project, then you use this option:
(this means you have a .sln file).
So this:
However, this might ONLY be a web site project. So, you can use this option:
So, I would certinly try to open the project (folder) where the site exists, and see if you can find a .sln file.
If there is no .sln file, then you can try to open the .vbproj file.
But if you open a "web site", then you ONLY select the folder where the web site exists. (you don't open .sln, or .vbproj file - but open the FOLDER.
VS 2017 is the last one that explicitly mention supports for .NET 3.5, and the Community version is still available with the free Dev Essentials account. If you're ineligible for Community, then the Visual Studio Express 2015 for Web is the one you want.
That said, even in the latest VS 2022, I still see the option to switch a project to target .NET 3.5, and the template still offers Web Form development.

Simple Website not building

I am new to ASP .Net programming. I know C,C++ and C#. I have got the book named ASP.Net 4.5.1 in C# and VB by Imar Spaanjaars.
I have got Visual Studio 2013 ultimate installed as well.
What is bothering me ?
I did exactly as the author told and I getting the errors when building
error. See screen shot.
Any help would be much appreciated.
It seems your project misses some dll in the project bin folder. Could you please check?
Otherwise it may be that you need to configure Nuget, in order to download automatically those missing packages.

Web Deployment tools for Visual Studio 2013

I am responsible for supporting a relatively complex Website project written with .NET 3.5.
Previously I was using Web Deployment Project with Visual Studio 2010 to deploy this website but at the moment I have only access to Visual Studio 2013.
As far as I know, there is no longer such a tool to be used for deployment in Visual Studio 2013 and I do want to compile the code before deploying to the production server. As mentioned earlier, the project is a bit complex and this would not be easy to be converted to a Web Application.
Any idea?
Unless I missed it, unsure what the issue is - in VS2013, Publish is what you are looking for (either WebSite or Application).
What exactly do you mean by "none of the (vs 2013 publish) options worked"? What is/was the issue?
In one of your comments, you state you want to "pre-compile" (aka "don't want to upload .cs source files) and that's a setting in Publish.
You can Publish to your local file system: "Custom" -> File System:
This extension still exists for Visual Studio 2013: http://www.iis.net/downloads/microsoft/web-deploy
Little bit confused with the question because you are keep referring about website rather web application.
If you are looking to convert web site to web app then you need to follow this: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/vstudio/aa983476(v=vs.100).aspx
Otherwise, if you are referring about the deployment project. Yes, it is no longer available.
I'd a very similar situation like you and Since 2013 I have stopped using any deployment project, instead I have started using Publish that creates a deployment package for you on a Network , FTP, Local Drive or even on Azure.
Here is a nice guide from Microsoft
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd465323(v=vs.110).aspx
If you still want to go for Deployment Project, then you would need to go for "Installshield" limited edition, which is free (http://samirvaidya.blogspot.com.au/2013/11/how-to-enable-installshield-le-for.html).

If I build a web application in ASP.NET, am I married to Visual Studio?

Doesn't Visual Studio generate all kinds of things when you build asp.net websites? I haven't used it in a while but back in webforms with a the dal and a bll, VS generated xml files and other things (don't remember what). And, while I technically could use notepad to fix it, VS seemed to be the only way to make sure things worked right.
How about today with MVC or something else asp.net? Am I tied to Visual Studio forever if I want to build websites? I liked in PHP that I can open up a file and it be simple to change things and it just works.
I am not knocking Visual Studio. It is a great product, but for those in my group that do not use it, it is a learning curve. Not asking for why asp.net is better than php or vice versa, just about visual studio.
EDIT: Is Visual Studio the BEST way to build asp.net projects?
You can use MonoDevelop, Webmatrix, Visual Studio Express but i suggest SharpDevelop, its open source.
sharpDevelop (short for SharpDevelop) is a free IDE for C#, VB.NET and Boo projects on Microsoft's .NET platform. It is open-source, and you can download both sourcecode and executables from this site. In addition, you can find the latest information and changes on #develop, as well as get in touch with the team in the forum.

MonoDevelop
Webmatrix
Visual Studio Express
No, you can build with MSBuild from command line, just simple msbuild.exe app.sln
You can also use MonoDevelop, which will run on Windows/Mac/Linux.
You could use Microsoft WebMatrix, which is free and aims to simplify the web development process. Another alternative is MonoDevelop, which is an open source IDE for multiple platforms.

How to build the MVVMToolkit from source code?

I'd like to understand the proper way to build the MVVM toolkit from the source files on codeplex for a WP7 sample app. I've got the source associated with codeplex changset 47157 by lbugnion Apr 18 at 10:42 AM 1300 associated with Release: MVVM Light Toolkit V3 SP1 (2).
I've got VS2010 and Windows Phone Developer tools installed. I see the VS10 dir that presumably contains the VS2010 solution files. Do I just open that .sln file in VS2010 and build all? The distributed binaries contain versions of the dlls suffixed with WP7. I don't see those version of the dlls generated when I build the VS10 solution file.
Thanks,
Peter
There seems to be a problem with the WP7 bits. Unfortunately they are missing from the VS10 folder and are instead in the old GalaSoft.MvvmLight folder. Plain and short, I messed up. The "old" folder was historically the root. When I added projects for SL4 and WPF4, I did so in the VS10 subfolder (not my brightest idea). And when I added WP7, I apparently did so in the wrong folder. This is really weird.
I have a flaky internet connection in the moment (I am on the road) so I won't be able to fix the issue before a couple of days. I made a note and will fix the CodePlex code base ASAP. More info will be given on my blog http://blog.galasoft.ch.
Cheers,
Laurent
If you're using Visual Studio 2010 the solution you should open is source\VS10\GalaSoft.MvvmLight\GalaSoft.MvvmLight.sln. The Silverlight projects may not open if you don't have the Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio installed. Don't worry about this if you're only building the WP7 version of the toolkit assemblies. The solution structure is confusing at first because it uses linked file references.
Actually, now that I look at the VS10 solution, it doesn't look like there are any WP7 files under the structure. I think you're correct, and the Visual Studio 2010 solution doesn't build the Windows Phone 7 assemblies.
