today i've updated my app from meteor 0.7.0.1 to 0.7.1.1 and, i have a crash of my app because of my app.css file.
Here is the part that fail :
#media screen (min-width: 1200px) {
#BtnCollapseStatusFilterBar { /* IT'S HERE JUST BEFORE THE EMBRACE */
display: block;
}
}
And the message is :
=> Errors prevented startup:
App 21289 stdout:
App 21289 stdout: While building the application:
App 21289 stdout: app.css: property missing ':' near line 10:31
App 21289 stdout:
App 21289 stdout: => Your application has errors. Waiting for file change.
I don't really understand the problem because i'm not a CSS master.
Any idea ?

Seems like version 0.7.1 throws errors where the syntax of your CSS is incorrect rather just ignoring the relevant rule, as was previously the case. There was probably always a problem there, it just wasn't raised before 0.7.1.
I'd put your entire CSS file in CSS Lint and see what it comes up with - it's possible that there's a problem on a different line to the one that Meteor is suggesting, or at least a problem somewhere.
UPDATE
Looking at the full code, you have at least one LESS variable in your file (#grid-float-breakpoint). I don't use LESS, but as far as I'm aware you need to give LESS files a .less filename extension to tell Meteor to compile them to CSS, otherwise the rules will fail. Try changing the filename from app.css to app.less and see if that works. Obviously, you need to have the LESS package added too, so meteor add less if you haven't done so already.
I had the same problem few hours back. I just missed some property value like this
padding-left:""
I forgot to give a value and after I gave it worked fine. Check for the same in your CSS.
I think in your app something in 10th line you forgot to give a value for the property like above.

I'm trying to find a source explaining how to fully style the input type "time". I cannot find a single example explaining all of the style attributes!
Only one I've found is:
input[type="time"]{
/**style goes here **/
}
Which doesn't help much..
Tried this:
input[type="time"]::-webkit-inner-spin-button {
-webkit-appearance: none;
cursor:pointer;
display: block;
width:20px;
color: red;
text-align:center;
position:relative;
}
Spinner does not turn red for example.
I made some progress styling the input in Chrome/webkit, but I can't figure out how to style anything in Firefox. Here's a demo that I put together on Codepen.
input[type=time] {
border: none;
color: #2a2c2d;
font-size: 14px;
font-family: helvetica;
width: 180px;
}
/* Wrapper around the hour, minute, second, and am/pm fields as well as
the up and down buttons and the 'X' button */
input[type=time]::-webkit-datetime-edit-fields-wrapper {
display: flex;
}
/* The space between the fields - between hour and minute, the minute and
second, second and am/pm */
input[type=time]::-webkit-datetime-edit-text {
padding: 19px 4px;
}
/* The naming convention for the hour, minute, second, and am/pm field is
`-webkit-datetime-edit-{field}-field` */
/* Hour */
input[type=time]::-webkit-datetime-edit-hour-field {
background-color: #f2f4f5;
border-radius: 15%;
padding: 19px 13px;
}
/* Minute */
input[type=time]::-webkit-datetime-edit-minute-field {
background-color: #f2f4f5;
border-radius: 15%;
padding: 19px 13px;
}
/* AM/PM */
input[type=time]::-webkit-datetime-edit-ampm-field {
background-color: #7155d3;
border-radius: 15%;
color: #fff;
padding: 19px 13px;
}
/* 'X' button for resetting/clearing time */
input[type=time]::-webkit-clear-button {
display: none;
}
/* Up/Down arrows for incrementing/decrementing the value */
input[type=time]::-webkit-inner-spin-button {
display: none;
}
<input type="time" value="13:30"/>
I wasn't able to find documentation anywhere. I got this far by inspecting the input's internal DOM, hovering over each element in devTools to see what portion of the UI it corresponded to, then grabbed its pseudo attribute.
If you can't currently see the internal DOM, you'll have to expose it by going into Chrome's DevTools Settings, Preferences, Elements and make sure the "Show user agent shadow DOM" option is enabled.
There's another pseudo element: -webkit-calendar-picker-indicator - the clock that shows up in chrome to allow you picking time using a mouse.
input[type="time"]::-webkit-calendar-picker-indicator {
filter: invert(0.5) sepia(1) saturate(5) hue-rotate(175deg);
}
<input type="time">
To style the input type date and time - use the following css -
[type="date"] {
background:transparent url(/assets/images/calendar.png) 97% 50% no-repeat !important;
}
[type="date"]::-webkit-inner-spin-button {
display: none;
}
[type="date"]::-webkit-calendar-picker-indicator {
opacity: 0;
}
[type="time"] {
background:transparent url(/assets/images/clock.png) 97% 50% no-repeat !important;
}
[type="time"]::-webkit-inner-spin-button {
display: none;
}
[type="time"]::-webkit-calendar-picker-indicator {
opacity: 0;
}
I am using Aspire Pro WordPress Theme.
I have added some custom css from customizer, css is updating when access the website from desktop or laptop. I have checked styling for mobile using chrome tools. It is working fine.
But when i access website from mobile custom styles not showing.

This is actually your code.... The custom code you need in not here....
I added into the **** lines.....
Try it and clean cache

Question: With SCSS, can we specify two different .main selectors? Say I want another one with margin-top: 50px while also inheriting all other conditions
I have inherited some SCSS from someone else. I have the following SCSS structure:
.main {
margin-top: 74px;
ul.tabs {
position: relative;
li.tab {
/*The rest of nested structure*/
}
}
}
It continues to nest (unfortunately) for many layers.
I have some other options (splitting the structure in two) which is a simple fix. Just curious if there's something better.
Thanks!
You should use a mixin:
#mixin sharedStyles{
//shared nested styles go here
}
.parentA{
margin-top:74px;
#include sharedStyles;
}
.parentB{
margin-top: 50px;
#include sharedStyles;
}
Here is a gist that illustrates the concept:
https://gist.github.com/Ryan-Haines/ba10888d0828d394851d3da6063f70bb
I recommend using sassmeister for rapid prototyping:
https://www.sassmeister.com
If you use a placeholder, as long as one selector is not inside a media query, it should group them together in the CSS. Ie
%mainStyles {
border: 1px solid black;
}
.main1 {
margin-top: 75px;
#extend %mainStyles;
}
.main2 {
margin-top: 50px;
#extend %mainStyles;
}
Should generate
.main1, .main2 {
border: 1px solid black;
}
.main1 {
margin-top: 75px;
}
.main2 {
margin-top: 50px;
}
I want to change scroll-bar color and other properties;
So I wrote the code bellow for chrome:
/* Chrome */
.contex#context::-webkit-scrollbar { width: 10px; height: 0px;}
.contex#context::-webkit-scrollbar-button { background-color: #800000; }
.contex#context::-webkit-scrollbar-track { background-color: #40210f;}
.contex#context::-webkit-scrollbar-track-piece { background-color: #ffffff;}
.contex#context::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb { height: 50px; background-color: #40210f; border-radius: 50%;}
.contex#context::-webkit-resizer { background-color: #666;}
/* Chrome */
This is jsfiddle and This is full screen if you use chrome you can see right result.
and I tried this code for I.E. :
.contex#context {
background-color:#fff;
overflow:scroll;
width:565px;
height:490px;
padding-right:5px;
margin-left:140px;
margin-top:100px;
text-align:right;
font-family:"B Koodak",Arial, Sens Serif;
position:absolute;
/* I.E scroll-bar */
scrollbar-face-color: #40210f;
scrollbar-track: transparant;
scrollbar-base-color: #40210f;
scrollbar-face-color: #40210f;
scrollbar-3dlight-color: #800000;
scrollbar-highlight-color: #FFF;
scrollbar-track-color: #FFFFFF;
scrollbar-arrow-color: #40210f;
scrollbar-shadow-color: white;
scrollbar-dark-shadow-color: #800000;
}
But it's not enough for my case.
Now I want to change scroll-bar in I.E and Mozila like I did for chrome.
Specially I want to change scrollbar-thumb with border-radius
Do you have suggestion for me to make something like this in FireFox and I.E.?Thanks in advance.
What you can use is this Jquery Plugin.
http://jscrollpane.kelvinluck.com/fullpage_scroll.html
You will need all of these plugins:
jquery
mousewheel
mwheelIntent
scrollpane
Once you acquire all of these and implement them, then you can edit the CSS for the scrollbars to what you want. Make sure you use the code provided on that page.
For instance, on the page I provided, these CSS styles can be altered to get what you want.
.jspArrow {
background: #800000; // Changed color
text-indent: -20000px;
display: block;
cursor: pointer;
padding: 0;
margin: 0;
}
.jspArrow.jspDisabled {
cursor: default;
background: #800000; // Color change, but line not necessary
}
.jspDrag {
background: #40210f; // Changed color
position: relative;
top: 0;
left: 0;
cursor: pointer;
border-radius: 50%; // Added line
}
.jspTrack {
background: #dde; // Remove this line
position: relative;
}
.jspVerticalBar {
position: absolute;
top: 0;
right: 0;
width: 16px;
height: 100%;
background: red; // Remove this line
}
Realize that border-radius does not work on older versions of Internet Explorer.
Check out your options here: http://www.unheap.com/?s=scroll
The most popular solution seems to be http://www.yuiazu.net/perfect-scrollbar/
I'm pretty new to CSS and have been finding my way around so far.
I am creating these button like links with shadows and stuff. Now there are several such buttons required on the site - everything about the buttons is same - except few properties change like width and font size.
Now instead of copying the same code - over and over for each button - is there a way of extending the button and adding just the properties that change.
Example of two buttons - css
.ask-button-display {
background: #8BAF3B;
border-radius: 4px;
display: block;
letter-spacing: 0.5px;
position: relative;
border-color: #293829;
border-width: 2px 1px;
border-style: solid;
text-align:center;
color: #FFF;
width:350px;
font-size: 20px;
font-weight: bold;
padding:10px;
}
.ask-button-submit {
background: #8BAF3B;
border-radius: 4px;
display: block;
letter-spacing: 0.5px;
position: relative;
border-color: #293829;
border-width: 2px 1px;
border-style: solid;
text-align:center;
color: #FFF;
font-weight: bold;
width:75px;
font-size: 12px;
padding: 1px;
}
And this is how I'm currently using it in my html
Ask a Question Submit
So I'm wondering if there is a cleaner way to do this - like
.button {
/* PUT ALL THE COMMON PROPERTIES HERE */
}
AND THEN SOMEHOW EXTEND IT LIKE
.button #display {
/* THE DIFFERENT PROPERTIES OF Display BUTTON */
}
.button #ask {
/* THE DIFFERENT PROPERTIES OF Ask BUTTON */
}
But I'm not sure how to do this.
Thanks for your inputs
You can add multiple classes to one element, so have one .button class which covers everything, then a .button-submit class, which adds things in.
For example:
.button {
padding: 10px;
margin: 10px;
background-color: red;
}
.button-submit {
background-color: green;
}
See a live jsFiddle here
In your case, the following should work:
.button {
background: #8BAF3B;
border-radius: 4px;
display: block;
letter-spacing: 0.5px;
position: relative;
border-color: #293829;
border-width: 2px 1px;
border-style: solid;
text-align:center;
color: #FFF;
width:350px;
font-size: 20px;
font-weight: bold;
padding:10px;
}
.button-submit {
width:75px;
font-size: 12px;
padding: 1px;
}
See a live jsFiddle here
You might want to try this:
.button {
padding: 10px;
margin: 10px;
background-color: red;
}
.button.submit {
background-color: green;
}
.button.submit:hover {
background-color: #ffff00;
}
This way you avoid repeating the word and will able to use the classes in the elements like this:
Ask a Question
Submit
See the example in JSFiddle (http://goo.gl/6HwroM)
Rather than repeat the common "Add a button class to the element" answer I'm going to show you something new in the weird and whacky world of new age CSS, or better known as SCSS!
This reuse of code in stylesheets can be achieved with something called a 'Mixin'. What this allows us to do is reuse certain styles by using the '#include' attribute.
Let me give you an example.
#mixin button($button-color) {
background: #fff;
margin: 10px;
color: $color;
}
and then whenever we have a button we say
#unique-button {
#include button(#333);
...(additional styles)
}
Read more here: http://sass-lang.com/tutorial.html.
Spread the word!!!
You can do this since you can apply more than one class to an element. Create your master class and and other smaller classes and then just apply them as needed. For example:
Ask a Question Submit
This would apply the button and submit classes you would create while allowing you to also apply those classes separately.
Modify your code example along the lines of:
.master_button {
/* PUT ALL THE COMMON PROPERTIES HERE */
}
AND THEN SOMEHOW EXTEND IT LIKE
.button_display {
/* THE DIFFERENT PROPERTIES OF Display BUTTON */
}
.button_ask {
/* THE DIFFERENT PROPERTIES OF Ask BUTTON */
}
And apply like:
Ask a Question
Submit
.ask-button-display,
.ask-button-submit {
/* COMMON RULES */
}
.ask-button-display {
}
.ask-button-submit {
}
You may want to look into Sass. With Sass you can basically create variables in your css file and then re-use them over and over. http://sass-lang.com/
The following example was taken from Sass official website:
$blue: #3bbfce;
$margin: 16px;
.content-navigation {
border-color: $blue;
color:
darken($blue, 9%);
}
.border {
padding: $margin / 2;
margin: $margin / 2;
border-color: $blue;
}
Add a button class to both links for the common parts
.button {
background: #8BAF3B;
border-radius: 4px;
display: block;
letter-spacing: 0.5px;
position: relative;
border-color: #293829;
border-width: 2px 1px;
border-style: solid;
text-align:center;
color: #FFF;
}
Keep in your other classes the rules that aren't common.
And your HTML will be
Ask a Question
Submit
Without changing/ adding new classes you can add styles to all elements with a class name starting with "ask-button"... (whatever the elements with the class are; button, anchor, div etc.) let's say your buttons are divs then:
div[class^="ask-button"] {
// common css properties
}
You can also list all classes that will have common properties like this:
.ask-button-display,
.ask-button-submit {
// common css properties here
}
And then you add the separate styling for each button:
.ask-button-display{
// properties only for this button
}
.ask-button-submit {
// properties only for this button
}
