I am using the WordPress framework called Bones. I don't know how activate the Spanish translation, I see that the po and the mo file are in the folder "translation", but for example in comments I see "Leave a reply", and not "Deja tu comentario" or the correct translation.
Here is the solution.
Put this in header.php.
require_once (get_template_directory() .'/library/translation/translation.php');

I've created an Arabic website and I am using the zippy theme from MageeWP the things is that I am trying to translate some strings in the theme, but I don't seem to get it working well.
In the theme functions file, there is a specification for the folder location for .PO and .MO files
I created a file ar.mo and put it there, but it still not working, can anybody guide to a clue?
I checked in wp_config.php and indeed the WPLAND is set to ar
I also used the CodeStyling plugin to make the translation, and it didn't work, although the plugin does not problem a .po or .mo files for ONLY ar.
Additionally
the source code of the zippy theme is here: http://themes.svn.wordpress.org/zippy/1.0.9/
Looks like the theme is doing it wrong (simplified code):
define( 'ZIPPY_THEME_BASE_URL', get_template_directory_uri() );
$lang = ZIPPY_THEME_BASE_URL. '/lang';
load_theme_textdomain( 'zippy', $lang );
It's passing an URL and it should be a path, change the load_theme_textdomain line to:
load_theme_textdomain( 'zippy', get_template_directory() . '/lang');
I had a look at the Zippy theme. There are a template called en_US.po inside the lang folder. I had a look at that as well.
If you don't have poedit installed, download poedit now and install it on your computer. Now, make a copy of en_US.po and rename it ar.po. Open ar.po with poedit. Now you can do all your translations in this template. When you're done, just click save in poedit. Poedit will automatically create a ar.mo template when your ar.po is saved.
Note, this is just a quick way of doing it, as there are already a language file available that isn't yet translated.
Hope this helps
I am new in Drupal and try to create my own Drupal theme. I have copied the Garland theme from theme/garland and pasted it to sites/all/themes/(renamed mytheme). But when I search on how to integrate templates in Drupal, there I got that I need four mandatory files: comment.tpl.php, page.tpl.php, node.tpl.php and block.tpl.php but in that theme there is no file name called block.tpl.php, inspite I have a template.php.
Please guide me on this, do I need to create block.tpl.php by myself?? If I create it what would be its content and how do I use that, also what is the use of template.php in my site.
I am new in this CMS (Drupal) so any response would be appreciable and helpful for me.
You can create your own block.tpl.php by copying it form modules/block to your theme's folder (remember to clear the cache!). template.php should contain custom overrides to the theme functions, as well as implementations of process/preprocess hooks. You can find an in-depth discussion about how Drupal's theme system work by following this link and in general by searching drupal.org website.
I have few basic pages in drupal 7, named about, contacts. I tried to make page--about, and style it, but it doesnt work. Any advice on how to force hook basic pages?
In your themes template file you can get template suggestions. This was you can check there isnt anything weird going on. The following will dump out suggestions for templates.
You need to use the following:
function YOURTHEME_process_page(&$vars) {
var_dump($vars['theme_hook_suggestions']);
dsm($vars['theme_hook_suggestions']); //if you have Devel
}
You should install the Devel module, this helps alot with theming.
First make sure you're using the correct machine name for your content type. Go to content types and copy it from there.
Copy the node.tpl.php file from root/modules/nodes/ to your theme's templates directory.
Rename the node.tpl.php file to node--MACHINE_NAME.tpl.php.
Clear the cache in admin/performance/. This is important.
I've been building basic themes now for nearly a year, and I'm trying to clean up my style as much as possible. But I don't know where to look to find out what this does...
In the kubrick theme php files, for example you get a php tag like this...
<?php the_content('<p class="serif">' . __('Read the rest of this entry »', 'kubrick') . '</p>'); ?>
You see the theme name 'kubrick' weaved in. What is the purpose of this?
You see it in all themes, twentyten, twentyeleven, etc.. but I never notice a difference if I leave it the same. What benefits does this have if I change it to my current theme name?
Can anyone enlighten me? or point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Josh
This is the 'theme text domain' and is typically used for localization. You can find out more by reading the gettext filter reference. One note is that the text domain is not required to be the same as your theme name. You can make it whatever you want as long as you are consistent with what you load using load_theme_textdomain. It's just convention to make it the same as your theme name. Finally, as to why you should bother including a domain here is a quote from an article called How to localize WordPress themes and plugins with GetText:
Have you noticed the 2nd argument in the GetText calls? It’s an
optional argument that tells GetText what the scope (domain) of the
texts is. If supplied, this GetText will return the translations only
from the dictionary that you supply with that domain name. Although
optional, specifying the translation domain is highly recommended.
Without it, GetText might return a different translation, if the same
string also appears in a different plugin, or in WordPress.
I'm using the Tarski theme for a wordpress blog.
I want the blog to be french.
I looked at this page http://tarskitheme.com/help/localisation/, but I can't catch up how to use the .POT file to translate it in french.
I downloaded the file and opened it with geany, made all the translation, ex:
msgid "Search Results"
msgstr "Résultats de recherche
But then can someone explain to me what to do with this file?
I suppose I have to rename it to tarski_3.0-fr_FR.pot, but then where do I put it? Do I have to "compile" it somehow?
Thank you all.
EDIT
It seems that I must ask a question here to find a answer by myself, I just find that I must generate .mo file from the .POT
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_gettext#Translating
But I'm still don't know where to put this file... still searching.
You simply drop the .mo file in the root directory of your theme, and load the text domain. In your case, this last step is already done: the theme already loads its text domains (line 78 in functions.php, the function is load_theme_textdomain).
If you'd like a GUI for editing your translation and generating the .mo, try Poedit.
