I have an ASP.NET application I've inherited and am trying to debug. I'm using Page Inspector in VS 2012 Express to work on a particular page that has lots of JS in it. Unfortunately, that page is opened as a popup whose URL is dynamically generated by JS. Page Inspector does not seem to handle this well.
If it just popped out into the new window, that would be OK because I could then get the URL and paste it back into the main PI window. However, it seems to lose the session reference when it pops up, because it logs me out of the application, and when I log back in I lose the location I was at.
I've tried changing the function that does the URL generation / window opening to a window.location.href, but that doesn't seem to work either; it just stays on the same page.
The references to the URL generation functions are done in such a way that it would be a lot of work to switch it from calling a JS function to just a straight link on the page, especially since I would have to switch it back for production.
Any ideas on how I can configure Page Inspector to handle popup windows better?
Thanks.

When I compile, I want the browser to go to that page instead of going to the log in page, when I set it as Startup page, VS starts not responding and freezes the screen. This is a very simple question but I cannot find the answer to it.
For an .aspx page, many possible reasons could cause "VS starts not responding and freezes the screen". I would suggest that you check your aspx file and the code behind file to see if there is any database connection and it loads large amount of data. Any pre-initiate program error could also bring page load failure. You may try move your GUI code to a separate html file and then view it in a browser to see what happens.
I'm just starting to play with Durandal, using the starter kit. I've added a very simple new view/viewmodel combination (essentially a copy/paste of an existing one from the sample) and mapNav()'d the route.
The problem is happening when I try to refresh my browser...the new view simply does not appear. It's not in the nav bar, nor can I navigate directly to the view by typing in the address bar. I know the code is (or should be?!) correct because if I go to the page in a different browser, everything appears as it should.
Is there some browser caching that Durandal is doing somehow? Sometimes F5 or Ctrl+F5 works to refresh, sometimes it doesn't. I also can't deep-link to a specific 'page'. Ie:
http://localhost:52625/#/newpage just gives me a blank
What am I missing?
The option that I use in Chrome is to open developer tools and right-click on the refresh button. There is an option for 'Empty Cache and Hard Reload' which always fixes this issue for me. I don't know the equivalent in IE but try this and see if it fixes your issue.
Most browsers will cache modules returned via RequireJS, which is how Durandal obtains its modules and view models.
CTRL+F5 doesn't help because that just refreshes the initial page - all the modules are still requested using javascript (RequireJS), so they are usually pulled from cache first.
I've found it's best to disable caching in your browser's developer tools. Doing so will ensure that all network requests are loaded directly from the source and not from cache.
See this question for additional information: Debugging when using require.js cache
Another solution is configure RequireJS to set its urlArgs property: https://stackoverflow.com/a/8479953/91189
This solution works ok, but makes it harder to debug, at least in Chrome, because breakpoints are lost every time the module is loaded, since it's technically a different file being requested each time.
Ok, so I've done it a hundred time or more, but today - got a new problem.
created a simple html page with an image
uploaded to a server
opened the page in the browser - no problem, all works fine.
created a new app, selected "tab" and insert the tab name, the http and https url
Tried to view the app and got "The page you requested was not found"
I've checked with other iframe tabs that I've built, they all configured the same, yet the new one - fails to load.
I've seen that the interface has changed a bit, Its not unusual that Facebook breaks things from time to time but maybe I'm missing something?
Edit: also, from some reason I don't have the "View App Profile Page" on that app
They changed some things around, profile pages are no longer being made. Check this out http://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/611/
Although I'm still having problems with getting errors when I try to add the app
This is my first Facebook app and I'm on quite a tight deadline so forgive me if any of this is a dumb question.
I've set up a Canvas app, I've got it to authenticate by passing the parameters to the facebook URL:
https://www.facebook.com/dialog/oauth?client_id=1234&redirect_uri=MY_APP_URI
I can then get the user_id and name of the user, which for this particular app is all I need. It runs fine in the Canvas page.
Problem is I can't get it to run in a tab, it always redirects to the Canvas, which is not what I want - I need it to run within the context of my client's Facebook page. I've been trying to find examples of setting it up but everything seems to be out of date compared to what I'm seeing in the App settings.
My settings at the moment are:
App on Facebook
Canvas URL: http://localhost/facebook/
Canvas Page: http://apps.facebook.com/MYAPP
Page Tab
Page Tab Name: My test app
Page Tab URL: http://localhost/facebook/
I presume I'm missing something obvious, so if someone can advise I'd be grateful. For what it's worth I'm using .Net webforms and have the C# SDK installed, but don't think I'll need to really use it for this example.
EDITED TO ADD
I'm sure its to do with the authorization - I've followed the guide here developers.facebook.com/docs/appsonfacebook/tutorial on how to redirect the page back with the authorization payload, but obviously doing that has kicked it out of the tab and into the main Canvas again. I need to to stay where it is, if such a thing is possible.
localhost points from your local machine to itself. Facebook does not know what localhost relates to and cannot load the app. You need to make your app accessible from outside of your machine.
It was the fact that I was still redirecting the url, when you run in a tab you don't need to redirect to another url to get the user data, it's just there waiting.
I am building a Flex Application that calls a .aspx page on the same webserver which builds a PDF report using SQL Reporting Services. When the report is built it prompts the user to open or save the PDF.
We are trying to find a way to display a Progress Bar to let the user know that the report they requested is being built, and then destroy the Progress Bar once the report is finished being built.
I've tried opening a new window using JavaScript and trying to catch when the window closes, as well as trying XMLHTTPRequest, but nothing to seems to work.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
There are 2 options:
Use the FileReference class in Flex to programmatically invoke your aspx file. You will be able to track the progress of the call from within Flex by listening to its events. But the users can only save the PDF, not open it.
Have an intermediate HTML page that displays a loading icon and then refresh itself to your PDF generating ASPX page. Encode your aspx url along with parameters etc and set it as a parameter to this intermediate page so it knows what to load.
If you don't have control over the page to be able to put JavaScript on it to hit a URL (or call back to the parent/opener), then you might consider whipping up an aspx page of your own to host a ReportViewer control, and display the report inside of that. This would require you to create a .NET website with a page and a web.config - you wouldn't need to do more than make it receive any parameters your report needs, and it would be do-able via inline-to-the-aspx code as opposed to requiring in-depth .NET knowledge.
Or, you could hit the SS-RS API and render the report directly. Here, you'd craft a URL with parameters for the report on the SS-RS API site to accept. I think, though I don't know for sure, that the SS-RS UI uses the API itself behind the scenes. By default the API is hosted in a site called "reportserver" - you might sniff HTTP traffic while the report is being rendered to get you started with the URL that you'd need to hit.
Another option not mentioned here is to create a .Net webservice, add it to your flex project and when it hits the result handler you know the file is created at that point.
