On my Macbook I'm using VirtualBox+Vagrant. For Vagrant I downloaded VagrantPress (from vagrantpress.org), which is a Vagrantfile with Wordpress and some Puppet scripts. It looks like this:
# -*- mode: ruby -*-
# vi: set ft=ruby :
Vagrant.configure("2") do |config|
config.vm.box = "base"
config.vm.box_url = "http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/vagrant/precise/current/precise-server-cloudimg-amd64-vagrant-disk1.box"
config.vm.network :forwarded_port, guest: 80, host: 8080
config.vm.provision :puppet do |puppet|
puppet.manifests_path = "puppet/manifests"
puppet.module_path = "puppet/modules"
puppet.manifest_file = "init.pp"
puppet.options="--verbose --debug"
end
end
At first, this was running as intended (viewing the Wordpress installation on localhost), but I have it installed on a Dropbox sub-directory, and while trying to get it to work on another computer which runs Ubuntu, I may have changed something that broke the whole setup.
Now, when running 'Vagrant up' on my macbook (which used to run well), I see this:

VirtualBox Guest Additions installer
You appear to have a version of the VBoxGuestAdditions software
on your system which was installed from a different source or using a
different type of installer. If you installed it from a package from your
Linux distribution or if it is a default part of the system then we strongly
recommend that you cancel this installation and remove it properly before
installing this version. If this is simply an older or a damaged
installation you may safely proceed.
Do you wish to continue anyway? [yes or no]

After that, I 'Vagrant ssh' and ran:
curl 'http://localhost/'
and get:
cURL Error (7): couldn't connect to host ...
I have been trying to fix this for days now. I even tried reinstalling Vagrant and VirtualBox but it didn't work.
Also, I tried to manually update the Guest Additions (although this was not necessary before), and after getting 'GuestAdditions 4.2.18 running --- OK.' after booting the VM, I still get the same errors for localhost.
What am I doing wrong?
If I understand your setup correctly, you would want to try http://localhost:8080/ on the host system (in order to connect with port 80 on the guest).
Inside the guest OS, are you sure the webserver is running? It might not be starting automatically.
Also, I think you can ignore the Guest Additions version mismatch. It's likely not related to the problem you're seeing.

I was trying to install minishift on my local laptop.
I was following the below said steps as part of the process.
https://docs.okd.io/3.11/minishift/getting-started/preparing-to-install.html
Set up your virtualization environment
Download Minishift software for your operating system from the Minishift Releases page
Install Minishift
Start Minishift
Configure Minishift so you can use it efficiently
I did install VirtualBox (6.1.16) as part of virtualization. And disabled the Hyper-v and Windows Hypervisor platform (Windows Program Features on/off). But after downloading and installing minishift by configuring it under PATH environment variable. I run the the below command - minishift start from command prompt.

Error starting the VM: Error creating the VM. Error with pre-create check: "This computer doesn't have VT-X/AMD-v enabled. Enabling it in the BIOS is mandatory"
I verified the BIOS Setup for VT-x/AMD-v, and it is enabled already, so I am wondering why it is still throwing this error -
This computer doesn't have VT-X/AMD-v enabled. Enabling it in the BIOS is mandatory
I used this commands cdk-scripts to verify that machine is capable of virtualization before running minishift on it. Should work for win 10 and 7.
Feel free to check the commands out on your machine. You will need powershell for that purpose.
To answer to my question here -
I uninstalled the existing virtual box and managed to run the minishift from windows hypervisor option (Hyper-v Manager). I adjusted my application processes (to control RAM usage) and launched minshift successfully using available 4GB RAM (out of total 8 GB in my machine).
I tried to run a vagrant setup using the latest versions of Vagrant VirtualBox and windows 10 (latest update):
Vagrant 1.8.6
VirtualBox 5.1.8 r111374 (Qt5.5.1)
If I set in my Vagrant file
config.vm.network :private_network, ip: "192.168.33.10"
I get this error:
Error renaming connection:
Cannot rename this connection. A connection with the name you specified already exists. Specify a different name.
Sofar I tried installing/removing both vagrant and virtualbox, I even downgraded and upgraded.. Restarted my compuiter several times, switched off my proxy, followed every crazy hack out there but I always get that error.
I even went to regedit and deleted all the related keys there but no success!
The output of the console:

After some deep researching on this issue, I finally found two things that should be done:
I cleared existing VM machines and deleted those folders C:\Users\{user}\.VirtualBox and C:\Users\{user}\VirtualBox VMs restart the computer.
Whenever I changed the IP address of the machine, I run vagrant halt && vagrant reload && vagrant up --provision
This fixed the issue.
NFS Mount is not working in my RHEL 7 AWS instance.
When I do a
mount -o nfsvers=3 10.10.11.10:/ndvp2 /root/mountme2/
I get the error:
mount.nfs: requested NFS version or transport protocol is not supported
Can anyone point me where I am wrong?
Thanks.
Check the nfs service is started or reboot the nfs service.
sudo systemctl status nfs-kernel-server
In my case this package was not running and the issue was in /etc/exports file where i was having same IP address for two machines.
So i commented one ip address for the machine and restarted nf-kernel-server using
sudo systemctl restart nfs-kernel-server and reload the machine.
It worked.
A precision which might be useful for the dump (like me): systemctl status nfs-server.service and systemctl start nfs-server.service must be executed on the server!
Some additional data
If, like me, you've deleted a VM without shutting it down right you might also need to manually edit the file /etc/exports because NFS is trying to connect to it and fails but doesn't continue with the next, it just dies.
After that you can manually restart as mentioned in other answers.
In my case, a simple reload didn't suffice. I had to perform a full restart:
sudo systemctl status nfs-kernel-server
In my case, it didn't work correctly with version NFS 4.1.
So in Vargantfile in each place where is type: 'nfs' I added coma and nfs_version: 4, nfs_udp: false
Here is more detailing explanation NFS
If you're giving a specific protocol to connect with, also check to make sure your NFS server has that protocol enabled.
I got this error when trying to start up a Vagrant box, and my nfs server was running. It turns out that the command Vagrant uses is:
mount -o vers=3,udp,rw,actimeo=1 192.168.56.1:/dir/on/host /vagrant
Which specifically asks for UDP. My server was running but it was not configured to enable connecting over UDP. After consulting /etc/nfs.conf, I created /etc/nfs.conf.d/10-enable-udp.conf with the following contents to enable udp:
[nfsd]
udp=y
The name of the file doesn't matter, as long as it's in the conf.d directory and ends in .conf. Depending on your distribution it may be configured differently. You can directly edit nfs.conf, but using a conf.d file is more likely to preserve the changes after upgrading your system.
Try to ping IP address of the server "ping " from client "ping , if you get reply then install nfs server on the host. Then edit /etc/exports file don't forget to add port along with IP address
I got the solution: make an entry in nfs server /etc/nfsmount.conf with Defaultvers=3 .
There will # Defaultvers=3 just unhash it and then mount on nfs client.
Issue will be resolved!
I have a Vagrant machine based on VirtualBox that has some problems (see Vagrant crashes depending on physical network). Now I tried running it on another piece of hardware (with OS X Mavericks), and got the following error message:
There was an error while executing `VBoxManage`, a CLI used by Vagrant
for controlling VirtualBox. The command and stderr is shown below.
Command: ["hostonlyif", "create"]
Stderr: VBoxManage: error: Unable to create a host network interface

interface IHost, callee nsISupports
Context: "CreateHostOnlyNetworkInterface (hif.asOutParam(),
progress.asOutParam())" at line 64 of file VBoxManageHostonly.cpp
What does this mean?
For the error to appear I run
$ vagrant up
Bringing machine 'default' up with 'virtualbox' provider...
[default] Clearing any previously set forwarded ports...
[default] Creating shared folders metadata...
[default] Clearing any previously set network interfaces...
… and then it crashes. Any ideas?
Oh, by the way: It's Vagrant 1.3.5 and VirtualBox 4.1.18.
sudo /Library/StartupItems/VirtualBox/VirtualBox restart
worked for me, see https://coderwall.com/p/ydma0q
The popular answer seems to be modprobe vboxnetadp (for Linux) or /Library/StartupItems/VirtualBox/VirtualBox restart (for Mac).
However, the fix for me was to add myself to the vboxusers group and relogin.
I am facing difficulty in executing MPI program on two machines. The OS is Ubuntu 12.04. And the MPI implementation is MPICH2
ssh is working fine:
root#ubuntu:/home# ssh 192.168.1.9
root#gpuguy's password:
Welcome to Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.8.0-29-generic i686)
* Documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/
131 packages can be updated.
67 updates are security updates.
Last login: Thu Oct 24 17:36:25 2013 from ubuntu.local
root#gpuguy:~#
But when I run my MPI programs it fails:
root#ubuntu:/home# mpiexec -f hosts.cfg -n 4 hello
root#192.168.1.9's password:
[proxy:0:0#gpuguy] HYDU_sock_connect (./utils/sock/sock.c:171): unable to get host address for ubuntu (1)
[proxy:0:0#gpuguy] main (./pm/pmiserv/pmip.c:209): unable to connect to server ubuntu at port 42104 (check for firewalls!)
I have already disabled firewall on both machines that is the reason I can do ssh successfully. But how to solve this issue?
My MPI code runs successfully on single machine.
For MPICH (or any MPI implementation) to work, you need to have passwordless SSH set up. I should also mention that you really shouldn't have to be logged in as root to make this work. It's generally a very bad idea to be logged in as root all of the time.
In /etc/hosts file, add ip address of each server and its hostname.
You should do this for all the servers.
for example:
10.10.0.5 server1
10.10.0.6 server2
10.10.0.7 server3
Just check in /etc/hosts file, not use tab (\t) instead of space to separate between ip address and hostname.
This is wrong:
10.10.0.5 \t server1
This is true:
10.10.0.5 server1
Be careful to not delete or modify existed lines in /etc/hosts file. only add new lines at end of file.
Also, you do not need to disable firewall to fix this issue.
