I was working with WebMatrix ASP.NET Web Pages and SQL Server 2008. It was going great, and then I just installed windows 8. Then I re installed WebMatrix (sql, iis was installed with it) via Web Platform Installer. Now I am not able to use any of my Databases, I have checked in the WebMatrix Database workspace, and the database isn't loading, the error I get is
"Cannot open Database "StarterSite" requested by the login. Login failed for user 'sa'".
What I tried: I have Googled alot for this, tried what was told. I tried to repair the WebMatrix from control panel, I reinstalled SQL Server 2008. In the WebMatrix Site workspace, there was an error .NET Framework 2.0 not installed! I tried to install it. But still the same issue is being provided everywhere.
I have also replaced the files that I had while I was using windows 7. They are in the place where they belong. But the issue is still there.
Why I am here: I am here, because I have tried Google and I have also tried to post my own question on forums.asp.net. But everytime I did not succeed, so I tried to get some help from here. I have also tried reading some question posted here too. But they are not helping me out.
My Question: Where will I find the connection settings for my website's databases. Is it in the web.config? Or is it somewhere in the Microsoft SQL folder?
Line in error:
WebSecurity.InitializeDatabaseConnection("StarterSite", "UserProfile", "UserId", "Email", autoCreateTables: true);
Stack Trace is giving this exception:
[SqlException (0x80131904): Cannot open database "StarterSite" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'sa'.]
The issue was with the files of SQL Server. It was not fully installed and the Login was not successfull in Windows 8 as SQL Server SP2 doesnot work in Windows 8. I was told to install SQL Server SP3 which is compatible with Windows 8.
I have tried to post the question on IIS forums, but never got time to ask whether SQL Server Sp2 is going to get some passage for Windows 8 too or not. Well I am hoping for best! :)
Try to open the site from a newly installed browser. I think the problem is that a cookie stucked in your browser and it tries to login with your Windows account.
If it does not work, comment the error line and try it again.

I am currently trying to get an application working which reads data from an oracle database on the network. This was previously hosted on IIS 6 Windows server 2003.
When I try to log in to the application it needs to read from the oracle database but I get the following error when it tries to connect.
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0134'
Invalid ProgID attribute
/LM/W3SVC/1/ROOT/NETEXPLORERAPP/global.asa, line 1
The object has an invalid ProgID of 'OracleInProcServer.XOraSession'.
From what I've read so far this is due to missing dlls and the way to add them is to install Oracle Objects for OLE. When I tried to install them I got an "unexpected internal error" from the Oracle installer. I'm not sure if this will actually resolve the issue though as I haven't had to do this in the past and the issue this fix was for wasn't identical to mine.
you need to install the Oracle Client on the web server so that your code has access to the proper registered DLLs. Once you do that, the problem will go away.
I must preface this post by saying that I am not an experienced developer, I am in the process of learning through trial and error and a lot of google searches so detailed (step-by-step) feedback would be greatly appreciated. I created a website, which does not use a database, using visual studio 2015 and I am attempting to host it locally on a Windows 2008 R2 server.
I installed IIS and loaded the asp.net v4.0 framework. The site works fine, produces no errors when I test it and works after being published only if the visual studio is still running.
However, when I close the Visual studio and open my browser window to http://localhost:50044 (which is the URL listed in properties menu in VS), I also tried using port :80 and nothing. When trying to add Web Site via the IIS management utility I receive the following authentication error: ”Cannot verify access path (C:\Inetpub\wwwroot).”
I checked the permissions and windows authentication is enabled with read access, and all other permissions seem to be correct. I am at a loss, I'm sure it is probably something simple that I am missing due to my lack of knowledge and experience. Any help would be appreciated.
It's sounds like you are running on IIS express which in your case stops running when you close visual studio. Normal process is create a new website in IIS and point to the folder where your web.config is. You can then hack your host file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) so DNS works. Add an entry like "127.0.0.1 mytestwebsite.com". I hope that helps
So I figured out part of what was happening. I didn't realize that visual studio has built in IIS and was using that by default.
I ran VS as an admin, created a new project, then attempted to create a virtual directory thru VS under the project/properties/web tab. I selected local IIS and entered http://localhost/boc and it returns an error: unable to create vd. Web server http://localhost... Could not be found.
I then went in to the IIS manager and set up a virtual directory with no issues. However, when I attempt to reference it thru VS I again receive an error message.
Any ideas?
I have developed a new website in Umbraco 7.0.3, and everything works when I run locally at me. But when I run the website to my hosting, I can´t log in to Umbraco. When I typed in my login and password I get kicked back to the login page with the message: Session timed out. log in below.
Umbraco 7.0.3
SQL CE ( know it is not optimal to run sql ce but that's just me working on the website and it so easy to transfer the website to the web site without having to think about the database)
.NET 4.5
I don´t now if this has something to do with this but I get this errormessage when I post my contact form, that works fine on my local machine:
Error occurred during a cryptographic operation.
Thanks,
Jonas
Can you try upgrading to Umbraco 7.1.1 and see if the problem persists?
I had a similar issue on the initial versions of v7 but its working great in the later versions.
The hosting company had set up the environment wrong, so when a technician in India reinstalled the website it solved the problem. Thanks everyone!
I have a web application developed on ASP.NET 4.0, SQL SERVER 2008 and Crystal Report 2008. When running on VS2010 it works fine but when i deploy it on IIS 7 reports are not working.
Application logins successfully.
Database is Correct.
Connection on reports are correct.
I gave full permission to IIS and Windows\Temp folder
I googled it and found many solution but non of them working.
Please tell me the solution. Furthermore the reports are working on IIS6.
The error is in the below image
I'm running IIS7 with Crystal with no issues. Out of the blue, certain reports started failing and creating lock files in c:\windows\temp. The only fix, so far for me, was to open each report and perform the following:
File > Page Setup > Check off the following option "No Printer
(optimize for screen display)"
Afterwards I stopped the application pool, cleaned up the c:\windows\temp directory and started the application pool again. All issues have since been resolved.
This assumes you have a working IIS7 environment to begin with
Finally, I got the solution*. I was using ODBC and it was the problem.
I deleted the connection from the User DNS and created in System DSN.
*I got that a year ago but it is for people who are searching. It might help.
I am working in visual studio 2008 sp1 and trying to publish a web site to a local directory. I keep getting the following error :
Error 3 Access to the path 'C:\Users\name\Documents\Sandbox\BTNET\App_Data\BTNET.mdf' is denied.
My question is how do I determine what user account Visual Studio is running as? I have tried to give everyone, guests, and IUSR_ full control and I am still getting this error. It’s painful..
You must "run as Administrator" VS2008 and publish site
Bring up task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) and look for devenv.exe.You should see the user in the User Name column.
AFAIK (As Far As I Know), it's ASPNET account
Since you're having problems accessing the DB file, make sure all the connection to that database are closed. That file might be in use, which in turn will cause the error.
It sounds like either an application is open and using the file(i.e. Visual Studio, modifying the schema or data or an instance of Access) or the user publishing the files does not have access to the delete files.
The first scenario is more common.
