Modifying a web.config in ASP.NET 4.0 - asp.net

I have a VB project that I have been assigned. My VB is not great, and my preference is C#, so I converted the code.
Converting the code was straight forward, but getting a Web.config file that works is causing me lots of headaches.
The VB project was started with ASP.NET 2.0 and upgraded with 3.5 features.

Everytime I try to run my project, I get another error from localhost IIS 8.0, like the 500.19 error below:
The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid.

Config Error There is a duplicate 'system.web.extensions/scripting/webServices/jsonSerialization' section defined
In the Config Source: section, it is pointing to Line 7:

I suppose I should change all of these to use Version 4.0.0.0, but I'm not sure where to get the Public Key Token from, if there is a 4.0 version on my machine, or if I have this defined elsewhere already (I was not able to find another jsonSerialization section with a document search).
How do I fix this?
Is there a way for Visual Studio 2010 to rebuild a proper Web.config file?


system.web.extensions section starting from .net 4.0 is configured by default so you don't need to register section, just use section to configure if defaults not good for you.
Just remove it, as it already registered by machine.config

Check your machine.config, may be it's already defined there, or you may be inheriting another web.config that is up in your directory strcture.

HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error(not able to host)

I am trying to Host this website in IIS and run, but it is showing "HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error".
I have change applicationHost.config file but that doesn't help.
When i am running the project from Visual Studio 10 it runs properly but when i publish the project and host in IIS it gives this same error ("HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error").

Please help solve the problem . I am trying to solve this from last 2 days and after not finding any solution which works for me i am posting here.

This may be an issue of not running the proper .net framework on your IIS server. I had this issue when I was trying to run a 3.5 framework web application on a server which had only the 4.5 framework installed. Installing a 3.5 framework on the IIS server made the issue go away, so you could try that first.

It must be system.web so you are right here.
and for the second error it is from your source code but as you have not included custom error tag you are not able to see that.

Redirect to non-www-url domain with ASP.NET?

This is not a duplicate post. I've looked through similar questions on SO but didn't find the solution to my problem.
As someone has already suggested I should do the following to redirect www-url to non-www url (or vice versa):

But the problem is when I add that block of code under <system.webServer> I get a syntax error with blue underline saying: "The < system.webServer > has an invalid child element < rule >...".
Of course I've replaced domain.com with my domain. I have also tried putting that block of code outside <system.webServer> but still inside <configuration> of web.config file, which resulted in Internal server error 500.

my web service works locally but, not when it is deployed

When I deploy my web service, I get the following error:
There is no build provider registered for the extension '.svc'. You can register one in the section in machine.config or web.config. Make sure is has a BuildProviderAppliesToAttribute attribute which includes the value 'Web' or 'All'.
I found one thread (http://forums.asp.net/t/1228638.aspx) that suggested a solution but, I can not get it to work. If I make the changes to my web config file as suggested in the thread, I then get a configuration error. One odd thing is that, if I check the machine.config file on my machine, located at C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config, I don't see any of the config settings described in the thread. As a matter of fact, there is no mention of "compilation" or "buildProviders" at all.
The on-line documents I have found regarding BuildProviderAppliesToAttribute have not been of any help.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

I can't tell what your OS or IIS version is, that said, have you tried using the ServiceModel Registration Tool on IIS with the i switch

I just got off the phone with the hosting provider (GoDaddy). They do not host web services on their shared hosting servers. So, that was the cause of the error.
I will have to use a different option.
