How to save meta boxes post meta? - wordpress

I create this function for metaboxes and to save information, but I can´t save the info and show it into the field.
My Code :
function reaction_buttons_meta2()
{
global $post;
$reaction_buttons_off2 = false;
if ( get_post_meta($post->ID, '_reaction_buttons_off2', true) ) {
$reaction_buttons_off = true;
}
update_post_meta($post->ID, 'reaction_buttons_off2', $_POST['reaction_buttons_off2']);
$meta=get_post_meta($post->ID, $field['reaction_buttons_off2'], true);
?>
<input type="text" id="reaction_buttons_off2" name="reaction_buttons_off2" value="<?php echo $meta[reaction_buttons_off2][0]; ?>">
<?php
}
function reaction_buttons_meta_box2()
{
add_meta_box('reaction_buttons2','Reaction Buttons','reaction_buttons_meta2','post','side');
add_meta_box('reaction_buttons2','Reaction Buttons','reaction_buttons_meta2','page','side');
}
add_action('admin_menu', 'reaction_buttons_meta_box2');
I need to put a simple field to store one option and after this show it in the template post.

I have never created meta boxes myself, but looking at your code all you do is trying to update meta but you need to add it first with add_post_meta.
Check this article on How To Create Custom Post Meta Boxes In WordPress.
For your issue, pay attention to Saving the meta box data section. As you can see, their function uses add_post_meta, update_post_meta and delete_post_meta functions.

How elaborate input of a WordPress shortcode form ($_POST array)?

I'm trying to create a custom WordPress shortcode to generate a form.
I wrote a function ( called send_advice_request_form() ) that returns HTML form code, then the callback that use ob_start() and return ob_get_clean(), how can I elaborate submitted form data? If I don't indicate any action attribute for form, where the post data will be submitted?
function send_advice_request_form_cb() {
ob_start();
echo send_advice_request_form();
return ob_get_clean();
}
add_shortcode( 'dparequestform', 'send_advice_request_form_cb' );
function send_advice_request_form() { //return HTML form }
The best way for handling custom form like yours is to send the datas to admin-post.php
Create a form with this action and this input type hidden :
<form action="<?php echo esc_url(admin_url('admin-post.php')); ?>">
/*
Your fields here.
*/
<input type="hidden" name="action" value="your_action_name">
</form>
Then you will have to handle datas with those hooks
function send_advice_request_handler() {
/*
Do what you have to do.
*/
}
// Hook for everyone, no private
add_action( 'admin_post_nopriv_your_action_name', 'send_advice_request_handler' );
// Hook only for logged in users (verified by wordpress with is_user_logged_in())
add_action( 'admin_post_contact_form', 'send_advice_request_handler' );
I hove it will helps you, tell me if you need more help.

Visual Composer Grid with do_action shortcode is not working

I have visual composer which is packed with total theme. When I put the following grid short code in my page in the editor it works correctly.
[vc_basic_grid post_type="post_type" max_items="10" item="masonryGrid_SlideFromLeft" grid_id="vc_gid:1458178666639-80ebf3775500c87d35de078c3422fe96-10" taxonomies="555"]
However, when I call the exact same code using do_action it gives the following javascript error. I checked the html output and it is the same using do_action like putting the short code in editor.
Error: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: {'status':'Nothing found'}
s
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Well, you can't output contents directly in your templates by using core shortcodes of VC like that.
1. Problem:
For security, besides nonce, VC uses page_id and shortcode_id to check AJAX request/respond data.
The shortcode_id is automatically generated by VC, you can not harcode it.
For example, this is the shortcode you see on admin editor screen:
[vc_basic_grid post_type="post_type" max_items="10" item="masonryGrid_SlideFromLeft" grid_id="vc_gid:1458178666639-80ebf3775500c87d35de078c3422fe96-10" taxonomies="555"]
Let say the page ID is 4269, this is the generated HTML code on front-end:
<!-- vc_grid start -->
<div class="vc_grid-container-wrapper vc_clearfix">
<div class="vc_grid-container vc_clearfix wpb_content_element vc_masonry_grid" data-initial-loading-animation="zoomIn" data-vc-grid-settings="{"page_id":4269,"style":"all-masonry","action":"vc_get_vc_grid_data","shortcode_id":"1458178666639-80ebf3775500c87d35de078c3422fe96-10","tag":"vc_masonry_grid"}" data-vc-request="http://example.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php" data-vc-post-id="4269" data-vc-public-nonce="0641473b09">
</div>
</div>
<!-- vc_grid end -->
Now, if page_id and shortcode_id don't match each other, {'status':'Nothing found - $shorcode_id'} will be throw out and no contents will be displayed.
You can find out more inside vc_grid.min.js file.
2. Solution:
Generate a fake page with VC, then copy generated html code to your template file.
Create a template with VC directly.
Use Shorcode Mapper to create your own shorcode.
First you build a new page and add a grid post on it,
then we get
_vc_post_settings
post meta , and try to build a new one
then update post meta data
now we can by pass VC Ajax security check
in the following code "1513628284966-37b8c3ca-d8ec-1" is VC generated guid
you should change it to yours .
$meta = get_post_meta(1365,'_vc_post_settings');
$settings = array();
#$settings['vc_grid_id'] = $meta[0]['vc_grid_id'];
$key = random_int(1513628284966,9513628284966);
$settings['vc_grid_id']['shortcodes'][''.$key.'-37b8c3ca-d8ec-1'] = $meta[0]['vc_grid_id']['shortcodes']['1513628284966-37b8c3ca-d8ec-1'];
$settings['vc_grid_id']['shortcodes'][''.$key.'-37b8c3ca-d8ec-1']['atts']['custom_query'] = "tag=shop";
$settings['vc_grid_id']['shortcodes'][''.$key.'-37b8c3ca-d8ec-1']['atts']['grid_id'] = ''.$key.'-37b8c3ca-d8ec-1';
$n = add_post_meta(1365,'_vc_post_settings',$settings);
return do_shortcode("[vc_basic_grid post_type=\"custom\" show_filter=\"yes\" filter_style=\"dropdown\" item=\"5959\" grid_id=\"vc_gid:".$key."-37b8c3ca-d8ec-1\" filter_source=\"post_tag\" custom_query='tag=".$tag."']");
I've solved.
I had the same problems, with the Visual Composer Editor offered by WpBakery
https://wpbakery.com/
and after understanding the connection between the IDs of the block, and the ID of the Post, I put more attention to the settings of the Block.
There is infact one field called "Element ID", and here we have to put our ID of the Post we are editing.
In my case the Block was a block containing some Posts.
After saving, and viewing the page without the Editor, I was finally able to see the block, and not the message
{"status":"Nothing found"}
I found a solution to this problem.
I modified the woocommerce category template and linked to the woocommerce_archive_description hook to add additional descriptions from some pages, for this I got their id, and then display the content.
echo do_shortcode($post->post_content);
The gallery(media grid) didn't work because there was a mismatch between the page id and the shortcode id. Therefore, the logical solution was to redefine the global variable $post to the $post of the page from which I get the content.
global $post;
$post = get_post( $id );
And it turns out that the post id matches.
After that, don't forget to return the normal $post value;
wp_reset_postdata();
By the way - use this option to load custom styles for wpbakery elements.
echo '<style type="text/css" data-type="vc_shortcodes-custom-css">' . get_post_meta( $id, '_wpb_shortcodes_custom_css', true ) . '</style>';
The whole code
function extra_product_category_desc(){
if( is_product_category() ){
$id = get_term_meta (get_queried_object()->term_id, 'pageId', true);
if($id !== ''){
global $post;
$post = get_post( $id );
echo do_shortcode($post->post_content);
echo '<style type="text/css" data-type="vc_shortcodes-custom-css">' . get_post_meta( $id, '_wpb_shortcodes_custom_css', true ) . '</style>';
wp_reset_postdata();
}
}
}
add_action( 'woocommerce_archive_description', 'extra_product_category_desc', 11 );
You may also try with do_shortcode('');
Like
do_shortcode('[vc_basic_grid post_type="post_type" max_items="10" item="masonryGrid_SlideFromLeft" grid_id="vc_gid:1458178666639-80ebf3775500c87d35de078c3422fe96-10" taxonomies="555"]');
Best Regards,

Add custom product field on quick edit option on the product listing of a woocommerce site

How can I add custom product field/s on quick edit screen on the product listing of a woocommerce store?
I am not really sure if this is the best way to do it, but it works great for me
Basically my general goal is to add custom fields for a product, I managed to do it (Adding custom fields to the single product pages) with the help of these useful tuts.
http://www.remicorson.com/mastering-woocommerce-products-custom-fields/
http://www.remicorson.com/woocommerce-custom-fields-for-variations/
I recommend checking those links first before proceeding.
Now, what I wanted to do is to add those custom fields to the quick add option on the product listing.
That's where the resource get scarce.
Basically this is how I did it.
Add your custom field (the html forms) to the quick edit options.
I hooked into the 'woocommerce_product_quick_edit_end' action to accomplish this.
This hook is found on woocommerce->includes->admin->views->html-quick-edit-product.php on line 195
Save your custom field.
I hooked into the 'woocommerce_product_quick_edit_save' action to accomplish this.
This hook is found on woocommerce->includes->admin->class-wc-admin-post-types.php inside the 'quick_edit_save' function on line 929
The previous 2 steps does the trick, it does persist the values, however after updating the custom field via the quick edit option, the data is persisted on the backend, but is not populated to the custom field on the UI. That's why we need the 3rd step.
Add the custom field meta data inside the product listing column, then use js to extract the metadata out then populate it to the custom field
I hooked into the 'manage_product_posts_custom_column' action to add a custom HTML tags (div or whatever) to hold my custom field metadata
Then I used javascript to extract the data out from the meta data and populate it into the custom fields
Step 3 is just a copy of how WooCommerce does this process.
For referrence, take a look at function 'render_product_columns' of woocommerce->includes->admin->class-wc-admin-post-types.php
Also take a look at quick-edit.js located at woocommerce->assets->js->admin
Example Code:
Note that the code below is used for illustration and guide purposes, my actual code is quite long and complex.
Step 1:
add_action( 'woocommerce_product_quick_edit_end', function(){
/*
Notes:
Take a look at the name of the text field, '_custom_field_demo', that is the name of the custom field, basically its just a post meta
The value of the text field is blank, it is intentional
*/
?>
<div class="custom_field_demo">
<label class="alignleft">
<div class="title"><?php _e('Custom Field Demo', 'woocommerce' ); ?></div>
<input type="text" name="_custom_field_demo" class="text" placeholder="<?php _e( 'Custom Field Demo', 'woocommerce' ); ?>" value="">
</label>
</div>
<?php
} );
Step 2:
add_action('woocommerce_product_quick_edit_save', function($product){
/*
Notes:
$_REQUEST['_custom_field_demo'] -> the custom field we added above
Only save custom fields on quick edit option on appropriate product types (simple, etc..)
Custom fields are just post meta
*/
if ( $product->is_type('simple') || $product->is_type('external') ) {
$post_id = $product->id;
if ( isset( $_REQUEST['_custom_field_demo'] ) ) {
$customFieldDemo = trim(esc_attr( $_REQUEST['_custom_field_demo'] ));
// Do sanitation and Validation here
update_post_meta( $post_id, '_custom_field_demo', wc_clean( $customFieldDemo ) );
}
}
}, 10, 1);
Step 3:
add_action( 'manage_product_posts_custom_column', function($column,$post_id){
/*
Notes:
The 99 is just my OCD in action, I just want to make sure this callback gets executed after WooCommerce's
*/
switch ( $column ) {
case 'name' :
?>
<div class="hidden custom_field_demo_inline" id="custom_field_demo_inline_<?php echo $post_id; ?>">
<div id="_custom_field_demo"><?php echo get_post_meta($post_id,'_custom_field_demo',true); ?></div>
</div>
<?php
break;
default :
break;
}
}, 99, 2);
The JS part
jQuery(function(){
jQuery('#the-list').on('click', '.editinline', function(){
/**
* Extract metadata and put it as the value for the custom field form
*/
inlineEditPost.revert();
var post_id = jQuery(this).closest('tr').attr('id');
post_id = post_id.replace("post-", "");
var $cfd_inline_data = jQuery('#custom_field_demo_inline_' + post_id),
$wc_inline_data = jQuery('#woocommerce_inline_' + post_id );
jQuery('input[name="_custom_field_demo"]', '.inline-edit-row').val($cfd_inline_data.find("#_custom_field_demo").text());
/**
* Only show custom field for appropriate types of products (simple)
*/
var product_type = $wc_inline_data.find('.product_type').text();
if (product_type=='simple' || product_type=='external') {
jQuery('.custom_field_demo', '.inline-edit-row').show();
} else {
jQuery('.custom_field_demo', '.inline-edit-row').hide();
}
});
});
Make sure to enqueue the script
Hope this helps anyone, again, I am not sure if this is the best way to do it, but upon examining WooCommerce source, it seems WooCommerce
doesn't provide a convenient hook to accomplish this task with ease (at least not yet)
If you have a better approach than this please share.

Copy user meta into post meta in WordPress

As geo mashup only retrieves post_meta, I am trying to copy over the geo_location from a custom registration field into the meta for page containing the map.
The code I am using is:
<?php
$blogusers = get_users_of_blog();
if ($blogusers) {
foreach ($blogusers as $bloguser) {
$user = get_userdata($bloguser->user_id);
$user_location = the_author_meta('geo_address', $user->ID);
add_post_meta( 463, 'geo_move', $user_location);
}}
?>
This creates the post meta, but the value is written as a blank, so it looks like $user_location isn't working. Any suggestions?
The answer was submitted here: https://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/121713/retrieve-user-meta-and-copy-to-post-meta
I'm answering this myself to close this and not waste anyones time

hatom-entry errors on the Google snippet test

Almost sure that I'm not the first one that has this question but when I test my (WordPress) page on Google Snippet Test Tool I got hatom-enty errors like:
hatom-feed
hatom-entry:
Fout: At least one field must be set for HatomEntry.
Fout: Missing required field "entry-title".
Fout: Missing required field "updated".
Fout: Missing required hCard "author".
I found some tutorials about this but that is for standard WordPress themes. I'm using Inovado from ThemeForest and I can't figure out in which file I have to edit this data.
Someone familiar with this?
I also got problems with snippet review... Good in testresults but doesn't show up in de Google Search Results. Don't know why...
You can Add this code to the function.php file in your theme's directory and it will solve the problems.
//mod content
function hatom_mod_post_content ($content) {
if ( in_the_loop() && !is_page() ) {
$content = '<span class="entry-content">'.$content.'</span>';
}
return $content;
}
add_filter( 'the_content', 'hatom_mod_post_content');
//add hatom data
function add_mod_hatom_data($content) {
$t = get_the_modified_time('F jS, Y');
$author = get_the_author();
$title = get_the_title();
if(is_single()) {
$content .= '<div class="hatom-extra"><span class="entry-title">'.$title.'</span> was last modified: <span class="updated"> '.$t.'</span> by <span class="author vcard"><span class="fn">'.$author.'</span></span></div>';
}
return $content;
}
add_filter('the_content', 'add_mod_hatom_data');
The code contains 2 functions. The first function will use the WordPress filter hook for “the_content” to add the class of “entry-content” to the article. To add in the other essential hAtom fields, the second function will add a short sentence to the end of your post article, which contains updated time, post title and author, with required microdata.
