Very often i need to encode text file from UCS-2 Little Endian to ANSI and save it with the same name. Is it possible to automate this process ? For example to run Notepade ++ with the parameters , or use special script ?
I have done this on 5000+ files. I used AutoHotKey to send keystrokes
in file list window, press enter on filename so it gets open in Notepad++
after Notepad++ gets activated and ready, trigger the conversion
close document in Notepad++
switch back to file list window
send down arrow to proceed to next line
I have temporarily disabled syntax coloring (I had Visual Basic files) to get files open faster.

Inside Notepad++ I triggered conversion by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F8 which I defined inside the Notepad++ in settings.

Hello this my first question to StackOverflow, not sure about the forum and topic.
While participating in an Open Mainframe initiative using Visual Studio Code and Putty for Unix I developed a sample program in COBOL showing international sayings (german, english, french, spanish, latin for now). It works fine via batch with JCL to file and being called from REXX. In file I can't see special chars for non-english but I had a lucky punch with a twin-program in PL/1 (doing the same and showing the special chars in REXX).
Now my question: I also tried to call by mvscmd from Unix bash script. It works so far but dont show me the special chars. Ok I have last chance to call mvscmd from Python. Or alternatively I can transfer file from MVS to unix (for any reason then it automatically converts and I see my special chars contents).
Where is the place to handle it? Cobol? (as I said, for any reason PL/1 can do. I only use standard put edit in PL/1 vs display in Cobol). Converting the Sysprint/Sysout?
Any specialist can help me?

I have some more shell script but this is the main. I directly put it to sysout (its the COBOL diplay. I can use fixed string or my saying read from MVS file). When using PL/1 program the last file is then sysprint because PL/1 makes it by PUT EDIT.
I assume my codepage is pretty wrong. But I dont know how to repair. I used some settings in the shell but LANG remains on C ??? By the way this Unix seems to be quite old and I only have the chance to use it until August.
My main interest is to use the program on Mainframe and in JCL and/or REXX.
But they gave us chance with this embedded Unix (?) also so I wanted to try.
Direct Sysout from COBOL program to Unix terminal.
I meant when executing the program on the Mainframe and then watching the result file in ISPF (old stuff) editor by PF3 I can see German and Spanish and French special characters. So they are there seems, produced by COBOL and PL/1.
When transfering the MVS file (kind of PDS) into the UNIX by MVSCMD, it is also fine (special chars) but thats not what I wanted.
I tried to use Python instead flat shell but its going even worse. I cannot direct the Sysout to terminal, all what is Python able to call is on the Mainframe and with the MVS filesystem. So I have to transfer it after. It is to much overhead in my eyes when call say 7 sayings and I want them to be displayed in the Unix terminal lol.

It is now the other Load, the PL/1 - but the COBOL does the same with Sysout instead of Sysprint.
It is shown in my REXX terminal that is also called by ISPF and then 3.4 in the edit panel. The program has no manual input but reads file. And yes, the sayings are not allocated here, I read them by dynamic allocation but it doesnt matter from where my strings come to the DISPLAY / PUT EDIT

Here in the parameter I give them the library to my sayings and then I allocate by PL/1 or COBOL. I can of course show, but its a little bit much, about 200 lines... The problem is not MVS I guess but the Unix codepage.
I want to be able to quickly view (with F3) the content of Word doc/docx files in Midnight Commander. MC's extensions file calls /usr/lib/mc/ext.d/doc.sh, which contains wv, antiword, catdoc, and word2x as helper programs. On my system (debian), the first three are available, but none of them are able to deal with the newer docx format.
The obvious solution is to use LibreOffice:
libreoffice --headless --convert-to "txt:Text (encoded):UTF8" filename.docx
This works well, but how do I tell MC to use it and display the result of the conversion? If I put this in ~/.config/mc/mc.ext, replacing the lines

Bonus: it would be nice if the displayed file would be word-wrapped, I suppose that could be done by using the wrap command?
Can I do this without having to modify /usr/lib/mc/ext.d/doc.sh, in my ~/.config/mc/mc.ext?

This would read stdin till end-of-file is reached. So works with a redirected input like
myprogram < ./data.json
But if I call it without any "<" it hangs ...
But then (that is, if you run myprogram alone) stdin is not empty. It is the same as your shell's stdin. and your program, being the foreground job, is waiting for input on the terminal you are typing (see also tty(4)). Try (in that case) typing some input on the terminal (which you could end with Ctrl D to make an end-of-file condition). Read about job control and the tty demystified and see also termios(3).
Perhaps you could detect that situation with e.g. isatty(3) on STDIN_FILENO. But that won't detect a pipe(7) like
tail -55 somefile | myprogram
You need to define what an empty stdin is for you. I have no idea what that means to you, and I would instead think of myprogram < /dev/null (see null(4)) as the way to get an empty stdin.
Perhaps you should design myprogram so that some program
option (perhaps --ignore-stdin) is avoiding any read from stdin.
Problem here is readAll. See documentation:
Reads the entire content of the stream, and returns it as a QString.
Avoid this function when working on large files, as it will consume a
significant amount of memory.
So it reads stdin until it encounters end of file and since stdin is associated with console you have to signal end of file. Usually it is Ctrl-D and press enter.
It is more probable you what to read stdin line by line.
To alow user text editing console transfers data to standard input of the application only line by line. This was designed like this ages ago when computer had only a printer as user interface (no screen).
Now question is how to read JSon form stdin console connected with console without end of file information?
I would use some SAX parser, but this would be to complicated for you.
So is there another way to detect end of JSon?
You can try this approach (this is basic idea, not final solution, so it has couple shortcomings):

Where JSonNotTerminatedError returns true for respective QJsonParseError::ParseError values (see linked documentation) which are related with unterminated JSon data.
Now I see QFile doesn't have required constructor, but main concept should be clear. Read data from stdin and check if it is a valid JSon document.
I am attempting to design a front end GUI for a CLI program by the name of eac3to.exe. The problem as I see it is that this program sends all of it's output to a cmd window. This is giving me no end of trouble because I need to get a lot of this output into a GUI window. This sounds easy enough, but I am begining to wonder whether I have found one of AutoIt's limitations?
I can use the Run() function with a windows internal command such as Dir and then get the output into a variable with the AutoIt StdoutRead() function, but I just can't get the output from an external program such as eac3to.exe - it just doesn't seem to work whatever I do! Just for testing purposesI I don't even need to get the output to a a GUI window: just printing it with ConsoleWrite() is good enough as this proves that I was able to read it into a variable. So at this stage that's all I need to do - get the text (usually about 10 lines) that has been output to a cmd window by my external CLI program into a variable. Once I can do this the rest will be a lot easier. This is what I have been trying, but it never works:

of the best help files out there. Use it.
You are missing $STDOUT_CHILD = Provide a handle to the child's STDOUT stream.
Also, you can't just do RUN and immediately call stdoutRead. At what point did you give the app some time to do anything and actually print something back to the console?
You need to either use ProcessWaitClose and read the stream then or, you should read the stream in a loop. Simplest check would be to set a sleep between RUN and READ and see what happens.

I wonder if it is possible to check to see if a window has focus in AutoIt. I have checked and not found much. I have tried using WinSetOnTop but this didn't seem to do anything so then I considered using WinActivate but this didn't seem to do what I need.
The reason I want to do this is because I have this application I am writing as a prank and I do not want the co-worker on whom I'm playing the prank to just ignore the window when it starts automatically. I am wanting to put a shortcut to it in the startup folder and we have several applications that run on startup and so I want mine to either always be on top or audibly shout rude words at the user if they try and ignore the application.
Is this possible and, if so, can you help me out because I am out of ideas.
