How fix 502.3 error for ASP.NET app - asp.net

one operation in our asp.net app is causing a HTTP 502 error right at 2 minutes of server side code running. failed request tracing confirms it's a timeout error (502 3). we've tried increasing executionTimeout on httpRuntime element to no avail. we believe the code does some sql queries then iterates through data - for now we just want to bump up the timeout so the app continues to run - any ideas which timeout setting we need to increase? #[Application Development] #[Technology Infrastructure] #urgent btw, we've duplicated this in our test environment

dp:url-open's timeout value is getting ignored in datapower

I am providing a timeout of one second , however when the URL is down it is taking 120+ seconds for the response to come. Is there some variable or something that overrides the timeout in do:url-open ?
Update: I was calling the dp:url-open on request-transformation as well as on response-transformation. So the overriden timeout is 60 sec, adding both side it was becoming 120 sec.
Here's how I am calling this (I am storing the time before and after dp:url-open calls, and then returning them in the response):
Case 1: When the url is reachable I am getting a result like:
Case 2: When url is not reachable:
Update: FIXED: It seems the port that I was using was getting timed-out in the firewall first there it used to spend 1 minute. I was earlier trying to hit an application running on port 8077, later I changed that to 8088, And I started seeing the same timeout that I was passing.
The do:url-open() timeout only affects the operation done in the script but not the service itself. It depends on how you have built the solution but the time-out from the do:url-open() should be honored.
You can check this by setting logs to debug and adding a <xsl:message>Before url-open</xsl:message> and one after to see in the log if it is your url-open call or teh service that waits 120+ sec.
If it is the url-open you have most likely some error in the script and if it is the service that halts the response you need to return from the script (or throw an error depending on your needs) to halt the service.
You can set the time-out for the service itself or set a time-out in the User Agent for the specific URL you are calling as well.
Please note that the time-out will terminate the service after that time if you set it on service level so 1 sec. would not be recommended!

IIS is hanging and needs to be recycled every time?

We've one IIS application server on which we have deployed ASP.NET application.
Now the issue is Server is hanging very frequently and every time we are recycling or restarting application pool. Could you please help me to fix it.
What I've tried:
1) Looked into IIS log and found that there are few requests throwing 500 error some time. All the time except few instances same requests are working fine and getting 200 status.
2) Few resources are taking longer time like
a) "Report.aspx" - State- SendResponse - Time Elapsed- 2-3 minutes
I checked the query and found that sp is returning data in 00:00:02.
b) "NewReport.aspx" - State- ExecuteRequestHandler- Time Elapsed- 1 minutes
I checked the query and found that sp is returning data too quickly.
3) Default recycle time is 29 hrs, and each application is using individual pool.
4) In code application connection has been opened and not closed at very few places.
5) We are using connection pooling, having 2 different connection string with Max Pool=500 and min Pool=50 each.
6) Most of the time there is no error in Event Viewer, some time have received TCP/IP error.
What I am looking for:
1) Do I need to make any changes in IIS to track down or please help if any changes required in IIS?
2) Is there any setting in SQL Server which can help me to find out or fix it?
3) Please help if anything else I've to do to fix this issue from your previous experiences.
I think you should capture a hang dump for W3WP.exe with Procdump or debug diagnostic tool first. We need to check all managed stack trace via WINDBG, sos.dll and mex extension. So that we can figure out worker thread is pending on which method and which module. Then might tell us about how to fix this hang issue. If you could find a way to always reproduce this problem. The problem would become much easier.
This link is about how to capture hang dump.
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/asiatech/2014/01/09/debug-diagnostic-2-0-generate-a-manual-hang-dump-for-all-processes-owned-by-iis/
If you don't know how to analyze dump file manually, debug diagnostic analysis tool could help you achieve this.

Google Cloud Composer The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request

After running for a couple of days Google Cloud Composer web UI returns the 502 Server Error indefinitely:
Error: Server Error
The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.
Please try again in 30 seconds.
The only way to fix it is to recreate the Composer environment. Though after running for a couple of days the new environment crashes with the same error.
Image version: composer-1.4.0-airflow-1.10.0
Python version: 3
Anyone knows what's the root cause?
I don't run Cloud Composer but I suspect that there's a case where the webserver has exited from all the web worker threads. This can sometimes happen when airflow has an extended timeout reading or writing to the database; either due to a held lock, or network connection issues. It probably is configured to restart if it fully exits, but there are some cases were the airflow webserver command will still hold on without exiting even though all web workers have exited.
Alternatively the 502 is about the identity provider implemented for GCP. If that's the case you might find you need to sign out of your Google login and use the sign in flow provided by Airflow (if it responds to a private browser session or a signed out session).
I was facing the same 502 error and it turned out to be an issue with the DAG itself. As mentioned:
https://cloud.google.com/composer/docs/how-to/using/troubleshooting-dags
"The web server parses the DAG definition files, and a 502 gateway timeout can occur if there are errors in the DAG."
Visible in Composer / Monitoring
Web server was affected by an issue with the DAG itself. We solved it by deleting the recently added DAGs, after couple of minutes the Airflow UI was up.

Error when running TcmReindex.exe

I am currently trying to get search working in my Tridion 2011 installation. I read in another article that I should run the TcmReIndex.exe tool in the Tridion/bin folder to re-index all my sites. So I tried this and it failed with a message box giving the following details
Unable to get list of Publication items.
Unable to Intialize TDSE object.
The wait operation timed out
Connection Timeout Expired. The timeout period elapsed while attempting to consume the pre-login handshake acknowledgement. This could be because the pre-login handshake failed or the server was unable to respond back in time. The duration spent while attempting to connect to this server was - [Pre-Login] initialization=21054; handshake=35;
The wait operation timed out
A database error occurred while executing Stored Procedure "EDA_TRUSTEES_GETTRUSTEEETOKEN"
I have four fairly large publications (100 000+ items in total) which I am trying to index.
Any ideas?
Whenever I get "Unable to Intialize TDSE object." errors, I typically write a small test script using VBScript, and try running it on the CMS server. Whilst this does not directly solve the problem, it often gives some insight into the issue by logging information in the event viewer. Try creating a test.vbs file as follows and running it:
Set tdse = CreateObject("TDS.TDSE")
tdse.initialize()
msgbox(tdse.User.Description)
Set tdse = Nothing
If it throws any errors, please let me know, and it may help us solve the problem. If it gives you a popup with your user description, then I am completely barking up the wrong tree.
I haven't come to anything conclusive but it seems like my issue may have been a temporary one as it just started working. I did increase all timeouts in Tridion MMC > Timeout Settings by 100 times their amounts but I suspect that this wasn't the issue, when it works the connection is almost instant.
If anyone else has this issue
Restart the computer the content manager is installed on, try again.
Wait an hour or two, try again.
Increase timeouts, try again.
I've run the process a few more times and it seems to be working correctly.

Getting error "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."

My site is running under IIS correctly. But after working for long time. It start giving the timeout error, seems like sever busy in doing other work. But the SQL server is running in my local host with no server usage/load except of the current application.
"Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."
After doing the system restart only i can resume my work. Need help on this. Thanks in advance
It sounds like you're hitting the execution timeout. If you're reaching this threshold, you may want to do some profiling to see if there's a performance bottleneck somewhere. To work around this issue, you can specify an execution timeout in the web.config:
<httpRuntime executionTimeout="180" /> <!-- in seconds -->
To change the execution timeout in SQL Server go to the server properties:

See here for more details:
Changing the CommandTimeout in SQL Management studio
I have used the recompile to solve this issue.
EXEC sp_recompile N'myproc'
Finally resolved this issue by clearing out the execution plan from the procedure cache.
To clear the plan cache run the following scripts...
SELECT plan_handle, st.text
FROM sys.dm_exec_cached_plans
CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_sql_text(plan_handle) AS st
where objtype = 'Proc' AND st.[text] like '%[Enter stored procedure name here]%'
If the stored procedure exists in the cache you're results should look like this:
From the results returned replace the plan_handle in the example below...
-- Remove the specific execution plan from the cache.
DBCC FREEPROCCACHE (0x050017005CBF201940A1CE91000000000000000000000000);
GO
