I'am new to game maker, and now creating a very simple application, which should get some data from web server (in JSON), and display in special way on device. GameMaker looks to be useful to create this kind of cross-platfrom applications, but it is very difficult for me to find a good samples.
I need to make post request with two name-value pairs ("data", and "info"), and parse result from JSON.
Maybe, someone have a sample, how to do it?

If use GM Studio, use http_post_string, for other versions you have to use extensions.

Currently i am creating a design for a new enterprise application. Right now we have a lot of different proprietary solution and we wanna create a new one to switch from them all.
Briefly it is a kind of data destribution system. We have a lot of clients who needs a lot of different data.
What do i want:
1) Common REST API service
2) Some synchronoyu(async?) enviroment to send task and get data back. On image below you could see i think to use spring kafka request/reply template. It helps to scale my application in future.
3) Different typec of calculators for every kind of data
I search a lot how to do the second point the best way but didn't find any ready solutions or advices. Is it good to use kafka here? Maybe some one could give me advice about best practice in such situations.
Plz, send me links for articles or something else, because it will be a big application and i wanna start to create it rightly from the beginning.
I have to get a large amount of data from a server to a mobile application.
Currently i am passing the data in XML format which, seems to work.
I want to know if there is another better way to do this.
Also further i may need to show the data using page views.
Note: Using Flex builder 4.6 for development of app.
JSON is always a better choice when there is a data transfer between server-device. It is light-weight and easy to parse.
I personally use blazeds as server with amf-channel for the datas tr/rx...
For large datasets, you'd better use AMF, which is a binary format that will be decoded natively by the flash player.
Depending what technololgy you use server-side, you'll need some bridge that will encode your data in AMF. (BlazeDS/GraniteDS for Java, AMFPHP for PHP, ...)
I'm fairly new to web development and never before did i do any screen-scraping nor web-crawling, but yesterday a friend of mine asked me if i would be able to grab some data from this website, which is not mine, nor his, but the data is publicly available even for download.
The problem with the data is, it's available only as one file per one date or company, rather than one file for multiple dates or companies, which involves a lot of tedious 'clicking trough' the calendar and so he thought it would be nice if i would be able to create some app that could grab all the data with one click and output it in one single file or something similar..
The website uses aspx webFrom with __doPostBack to retrieve the data for different dates, even the links to download the data in XSL aren't the usual "href=…" links, they are, i assume, references for some asp script…
To be honest the only thing i tried was PHP cURL which didn't work, but since i tried cURL for the first time, i don't even know if it didn't work because it is not possible with cURL, or just because i don't know how to work with it.
I am only somewhat proficient in PHP and JavaScript, but not in ASP, though i would't mind learning something new.
So my question is..
Is it at all possible to grab the data from a website like this? and if it is, would you be so kind as to give me some hints on how to approach this kind of problem?

C# has a nice WebClient class to do the job:

once you have the page html in a string you use regular expressions to scrape the content you are looking for.
here is a very basic regular expression to give a hint:

Marosko, as you said the data on website is open for public, so for sure you can scrape data out of it. Now, it is to decrease the manual click through dates and scraping data out of it. I personally don't have much idea about how Curl will work but I am sure it will involve a lot of coding. I would rather suggest you to automate the entire process using some automation tool, like a software application. Try Automation Anywhere, I bought it few months back for some data extraction purpose and it worked very well. It is automated and you can check the screen scraping capabilities it shows. Its my favorite :)

I have been trying to find a way to connect Flex to sharepoint in an elegant way that allows me to update lists, build charts, and create widgets with FLEX on the client-side. I have researched this extensively but I am running into circles.
I understand the basics of Flex data connection/webservices/etc... , I just can't seem to get my head around how to use the sharepoint list services.
Does anybody out there have a nice detailed example of what I'm trying to achieve? Simple examples work too! :)

Look at the "SOAP query example" or the WSDL from the SharePoint web-service (e.g. .../_vti_bin/lists.asmx?op=GetListItems or ../_vti_bin/lists.asmx?op=GetListItems&WSDL) and then look at the corresponding MSDN documentation (such as GetListItems) on how to "use" the web-service.
It takes a little bit of familiarity to "know" to map viewFields with <viewFields>...</viewFields> (most work like this), but... the MSDN documentation (if prodded carefully) says "what" to put in the XML where the WSDL just gives the near-useless outline. There are a number of examples in the tubes (and related SO questions) of hand-rolled SOAP access for SP for various tasks.
Microsoft also has some Open Specifications -- the link is always hard for me to find. Lots of stuff under the SharePoint branch. YMMV and it's mostly white-paper, but a good resource.
Not sure what tools Flex has but because of the limited WSDL support, most of the mapping has to be hand-coded or come from a better definition source -- hopefully "an existing library" which can be used directly or modified-to-suit.
I would highly recommend using a tool for testing the service access -- e.g. soapUI, which actually has a horrid UI -- because even the littlest error will come back with a cryptic error messages. Also, make sure to use SOAP 1.2.

P.S. A more specific question about a specific web-service would likely yield better responses.
I would like to download tweets based on certain search terms. I'm aware of HTTP GET and such techniques, but I'm not sure the best way to create a simple executable that downloads the tweets and saves them for subsequent analysis.
Any ideas? I'm a basic programmer - if you say "use curl" I know roughly what you mean but not how to set up an application to run curl commands!
Hence my dilemna.

You absolutely can do it in c# or any other language.
From a very rudimentary standpoint, the Twitter API wiki will tell you how, but I know that's not what you're really asking.
I would suggest getting familiar with a good API such as Tweetsharp which also has methods not only for getting your typical timelines, but also using search. The advantage to this (aside from not having to handle your own serialization, etc.) is that it unifies the timeline and search calls as they are actually slightly different API's.
The downside to this approach though is that you're not going to be able to directly translate it to a mac, unless you write it using Silverlight.
the upside to this approach is that Tweetsharp gives you a number of options on how it gives you the data, which in turn gives you a number of options as to how to save the data.
