How to determine content directory for Dynamics AX 2012 (for helpfile msi) - dynamics-ax-2012

I have to create an MSI to deploy our help files in Dynamics AX 2012.
The way the help system runs, as I understand, is it (the help system) gets installed on the server, and the normal directory for the content (the help files it serves) is c:\inetpub\wwwroot\dynamicsAX6HelpServer\Content.
The admin, of course, can change it.
Help files are served up from folders under that content directory to Dynamics AX 2012 clients through a web-service.
I now have to create an MSI installer for deploying our help information when our product gets deployed. The process is just dropping our helpfiles into that content directory (well, our helpfile structure, not just files). We already have our helpfiles there and it works on our system.
I'm not able to find anything on how I can go about finding where the content directory is. I can guess and place it at the path above, but that's not the right way to do this.
My intent is to create an MSI with Installshield to deploy the helpfiles. My experience with Dynamics ranks somewhere between zero and none, so I appreciate any help I can get.

Barring any better answer, I found the directory in the registry under
COMPUTER\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Dynamics\6.0\Setup\HelpServer\InstallDir
This solves my issue.

Change the directory where the SQLite *.db-journal file is created

Good day,
I have a small application created in Lazarus / Free Pascal. If I run this application located in a folder on my computer, it will start and SQLite will create a temporary file .db-journal in the current directory. Since the application is portable, it will also run from a flash drive. And now comes the problem. Some computers (eg at work) do not allow writing to external media. Therefore, when I start the application, it does not start and an error is displayed that it is not possible to open the database (tested on a locked SD card). And so that the application does not always have to be copied to the computer, I would like to know if it is possible to redirect the creation of a temporary file .db-journal to another directory, for example the "C:\WINDOWS\USERS<user>" user directory. Is it usually possible to write there always?
Of course, I searched the net, but so far I have not found anything that would help me, so I am addressing you here. Thank you for your advice or guidance.

How to Copy Kentico Instance to a Local Machine?

I just started a new position replacing a developer who left abruptly working on a project that is based in the Kentico CMS. I am completely unfamiliar with ASP and Kentico, so the answer here needs to be tailored for a total beginner. I am familiar with other languages (PHP, Ruby, SQL, etc.) but have no idea where to begin with this.
So, want I am wanting to do is copy everything from our production site (db and all) to my local machine so I can develop on it easier. I have already exported the db into an SQL file, and copied all the files in our Kentico Instance folder into github, and cloned it on my local machine. I assume since Kentico is already "setup," going through the installation process in their documentation is not the way to go about this.
Any help would be incredibly appreciated!
David, basically there are a few "pieces" to running Kentico locally. Since, as you mentioned, Kentico is already set up, you should have an easier go of it.
A database with the necessary Kentico tables (it sound like you
already have this)
The codebase (all of the code files that you copied to github)
A valid license for any domain you want to run Kentico on. Was the site already public facing? Do you know what licenses you have
or can you log into the CMS Desk on the site that you copied
everything from?
Set up IIS for your local website. If you are unsure on this one I can explain further, but basically you need to add a new site,
point it to the root code folder for your site, and set the domain
to be a domain you have a Kentico license key for. You'll also need
to change the app pool settings to "integrated" mode (most likely)
and also set the appropriate version of .NET (if it's a recent
version of Kentico you'll want .NET 4.0)
Next you'll need to edit your hosts file to add the domain and point it to your localhost IP address. So add a line like "127.0.0.1
dev.yourdomain.com" or the equivalent.
Edit the web.config file so that your code can connect to your database. You will need to edit the connection string accordingly to
point to the database on your machine.
Once you have done these steps, your site should start to run just as it had before. I didn't give great detail on all of these pieces so let me know what problems you encounter so I can further clarify. More information about the current situation would also help.
One other note I would make: if you need the client to be able to review your work, it will most likely be more efficient and easier for you to leave the original database on the web server, and (if possible) connect to it remotely from your local machine. Since almost any change you make will result in a database change in Kentico, I find it much easier to be working on 1 database for development with distributed codebases. Otherwise you will probably need to overwrite the other database with your changes constantly and this can be annoying. If you leave the database on the server and just connect remotely, you can just ftp (or use git) to push files to the server that you have edited locally.

How to move or copy a Dynamics AX 2009 Enterprise Portal instance?

I can't think of a better way to word the question than the subject line, but I'll try my best.
We're comfortable copying and handling the AX instances themselves, but how do I create a duplicate of an existing Enterprise Portal? For example, we have one that is working well, and we'd like to spin off a copy to point at a different copy of the AOS (for development purposes).
Is there a simple process, is it as easy as copying the inetpub folder from IIS to another site instance or server? Or can you re-run the setup for Enterprise Portal on another server, copying over the files after the fact?
Links to any documentation on the process would be appreciated, although my Google searches yielded very little results.
Given that your site only contains Enterprise Portal content (pages and web parts), you should make sure that everything is persisted with latest copy /version in the AOT.
Then it would be a matter of making a project with everything in and export it and import it. You can use axupdateportal utility to deploy on the second environment.
This procedure implies installing EP from scratch on the new server.
The trick with EP development is to make sure you have a solid project within AX that holds the most recent version of your custom EP applications.

IIS7 - Change physical path of all sites in server config

Very close to killing myself, so please lend your ears and hands.
I've been trying to migrate an IIS7 webserver (rather large one), and so far am appalled by the state of msdeploy and using it for what I need to do. Enough on that, here's my current problem:
The server I'm migrating from has all the sites on a D:\ drive. It isn't possible for us to have a D:\ drive in the new environment, so I need to change all the site paths to C:.
I obviously do not want to do this for each site manually, so I thought to edit the paths in applicationHost.config. However, IIS doesn't seem to care one bit. All the paths are C:\, yet IIS still tries to reference D:.
When I look at site settings, it still says D:. Where in the WORLD is this value coming from?
It's on a 64-bit server, and I checked the OTHER applicationHost.config in \syswow64\, and that has magically changed to C:\ as well.
Any help, or perhaps a completely different way of migrating from D:\ to C:\ is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
"Fixed" it by copying applicationhost.config to a 2003 box, editing it there and copying back. Apparently 2008 "pretends" to save your file (i.e. it shows my changes when I open it in notepad) but read them from, either some cached version, or from another file elsewhere.

Publishing Web App Project with Visual Studio

I am using Visual Studio 2008 and trying to publish a Web Application Project, but it keeps failing when trying to add files in the project. Below is a sample of the message;
Publishing folder JavaScript... Unable
to add 'JavaScript/hoverIntent.js' to
the Web site. Unable to add file
'JavaScript\hoverIntent.js'. The
specified file could not be encrypted.
This happens for image files too. I am lost as to why it is happening. I should add that I am using Windows 7 build 7100, not sure if this is casuing the issue??
Any help greatly appreciated
I know this is an old topic, but I found it when I googled for the same problem.
My solution was to remove the "Encrypt" flag from Windows Explorer for the files listed (Right click -> Properties -> Advanced)
This blog post at BlackMarble is suggesting that you may have the target directory set to use encryption. Sounds like the exception you're seeing is the inability for the VS publish process to handle that.
To get around this problem:
use VS to publish to an intermediate directory. Somewhere on your PC perhaps.
copy the files yourself (with a batch file maybe) to the server
That's a workaround, at least.
Disable windows encrypted file system in cmd with the following:
fsutil behavior set disableencryption 1
Then restart your PC.
When I had this problem on publishing a Visual Studio 2010 web project either to a local folder or to a host, I was stumped. Visual Studio didn't indicate which files or even folders had caused the problem. I wasn't aware there were any encrypted files in the solution and I couldn't find any. I was unable to update my website.
I googled how to find encrypted files but none of the solutions involving efsinfo.exe were appropriate to Windows 7 then I found an example using the cipher command:
https://superuser.com/questions/58878/how-to-list-encrypted-files-in-windows-7
There were a number of different answers to finding the encrypted files. I used the command prompt method.
I opened a command prompt in the root of my application and did:
D:\Data\Code2011>cipher /s:MyWeb >Encryption.txt
I then did a case sensitive search in Encryption.txt for lines beginning E[space] or 'the file is encrypted'
I found two .htc files which were encrypted in a styles subfolder and was able to unencrypt them in the advanced tab of explorer file properties.
The Web then compiled and published OK.
I had this issue as well. I set the source files properties to not be encrypted but that still wasn't working. Turned out that the files were cached in the temporary deployment folder and I had to uncheck encryption there as well. It probably would have worked to delete the temporary deployment directory but the other way worked.
