classic ASP recordset field not being allowed to evaluate - asp-classic

I am returning a value from my database. The data type is a string. I checked with TypeName. However, my if condition never works despite it printing the value I am checking for. Any ideas?

Exclude certain selections from a drop down list ASP

I'm working on a ASP (Within the payment gateway). The options in the drop down at being pulling in from a database. I can't touch the database so have to attack the matter from the code.

You will have to change the method building the drop down. Since you did not provide us with the code for it, I'll give you a skeleton, and can use it to change your actual code.
To make it more generic and less ugly, better pass the value(s) to exclude to the method, as an array, instead of hard coding them in there.
So, the method should look like this:

This will just skip any records with such values, and will not output a drop down option for them.

The problem is that when tested in the server it updates without any issues. But when access from a wireless network it won't update.
The target table to update has about 27,000 records
I need to know what I'm doing wrong or if there is another approach.
I found the error after carefully analyzing the situation.
Records in primary key that have spaces for example '2 OR 13' will not update. But records without spaces in primary key like '2CEN13' updates perfectly. I did not had time to solve it in my asp code, so i edited all records with spaces and that solve the problem.

Infinite classic Asp do while loop

I have this same type of loop running on several pages, but the one that I said I'd get done in 1 day just... Ignores the out.movenext and prints only the first result out of a possible 10 results until it crashes. The SQL is fine. I got it with a tracer.
Changes:
I originally had the movenext last before the loop - but moved it up one line for tracing. Tried (out = out.movenext , out = out.next) to see if it would do anything. And I tried putting an integer count in to have it stop after 20 loops so I can debug it faster. The int changes, the data prints, but out doesn't advance.

Edit: Forgot the "SET" before the cnt.execute
The logic looks OK, unless I'm missing something. Even though out isn't listed as a reserved word with MS, I do wonder if it's the problem.
Found it.
Didn't have SET before the out = cnt.execute(strSQL)
Should have been

Inconsistent results from ASP classic

I have a somewhat unnerving problem when using constant values. I have a simple page called "test.asp" which sets a variable to a constant and then to a querystring value (if it exists). Then a select case checks if the variable matches the constant and outputs a message "matched". The problem is that asp does not recognise when the querystring value is the same as the constant.
I have run 2 attempts, "test.asp" and "test.asp?SortField=1". The first attempt runs as expected but the second attempt reports that 1 is not the same as 1.

You're comparing a string with a number. You need to make sure they are consistent. So either change this line:
const cSortFielda = 1
To:
const cSortFielda = "1"
Or change this line:
vSortField = Request("SortField")
To:
vSortField = CLng(Request("SortField"))
The first example compares string to string, and the second example compares number to number.
Comparing string against integer results in false. Add these and you would see.

Make sure that both variables are of same type or convert before comparing. Since you are dealing with QueryString, it would be easier to use string type i.e. const cSortFielda = "1".
All variables are variants in VBScript unless you specify a literal value to that variable.
So const CSortFielda is a number.
But vSortField is a variant which holds the STRING of the value of the SortField query string item
Either change the const value to be a string

Or parse SortField as a number

I would also suggest specifying that the field comes from the querystring, although that's not related to your actual problem:

Returning more than 1000 rows in classic asp adodb.recordset

My code in asp classic, doing a mssql database query:
rs.pagesize = 1000 ' this should enable paging

My output when there are fewer than 1000 rows returned is good. More than 1000 rows and I don't get the "hello world 2".
I thought that setting pagesize sets up paging and thus allows all rows to be returned regardless of how many rows there are. Without setting pagesize, paging is not enable and the limit is 1000 rows. However my page is acting as if pagesize is not working at all.
Please advise.
is it possible you are declaring your oRS.pagesize before you are opening the recordset?

I pull this from some old code of mine. I don't remember why this combination of parameters is necessary but it's what is necessary to implement paging.
Unlimited records sounds great but I would set a limit even if it's quite hi.
If you are not getting the "Hello World 2" output, is there an error? That would be helpful as well.

your code here is not enough to accomplish that but regardless of the code, why are you trying to return a 1000 rows of data ????
nobody's going to read a 1000 rows of data and it will likely be very slow performance.
Using the following code, I returned 4000+ rows from a sql server table in classic ASP. It's not using the same method, but it doesn't suffer the limitations either.
