I've got a master page that loads in a custom css file. This works fine for the published pages that the end user sees. however, the css also affects the site settings pages which look terrible. Is there a way to only provide a custom css file for the published pages?
Cheers #Neps. There was a different master page for system, but I found out I was using the alternate CSS which was applying the style sheet to both. so I removed that and put the link code directly into the master page.

im using wordpress and want to add a link which open in a frame/lightbox. Cant find a small solution for that.
There should be no new window. Just a content box which appear inside the page where i am. I hope u know what i mean
That should be pretty easy using the Easy Fancybox plugin.
Citing the entry from the FAQ section of the plugin's page:
Can I display web pages or HTML files in a FancyBox overlay?
Yes. First, enable the iFrame option on Settings > Media. Then, in your post or page content create a link to any web page or .htm(l) file in your content. Then switch to the Text tab in the Classic Editor or to Edit as HTML (under More options in the block menu) in Gutenberg, find the link <a ... > tag and give it a class="fancybox-iframe" attribute.
Voilà !
Beware, though, that:
Note: Not all external web pages are allowed to be embedded in an iframe and may be blocked by a server response header or script. The result will be either an empty/blank light box or the target page “breaking out” of the light box and loading in the main browser tab.
And you'd probably face the same problem with any other iframe solution. So that would work better with locally served pages.
I have a site that has multiple pages. The first page is just a listview with icons and links to the other pages. CSS stylesheets work fine on the first page, but when I go to one of the linked pages, my custom css stylesheet (and js for that matter), related to that page, is being ignored. If I look in the FF inspector I see that it has dropped the associated lines that tell it about my stylesheet. If I directly go to the desired page or if I hit refresh, the styles look fine, but whenever I come from a link off the first page, the styles are gone. I see no errors when loading the page. Is this a know issue? How can I force it to not ignore my stylesheets.
I am using jquery mobile 1.4.5 in addition to my own.
Looking further. It looks like hitting the link is appending the body of the 2nd page at the end of the first and not simply loading the 2nd page.
It turns out that by default links behave a little different than normal when using jQuery Mobile. The don't do a full page load, but instead only inject the part contained in a div marked with data-role="page". I did not know this.

I built a Master Page using SharePoint Designer 2010 which references an external stylesheet like so:
<link href="/sites/sandbox/Style%20Library/pscp/styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
In the design mode of the master page, all of the styles are reflected correctly, likewise when I create a new .aspx based on that master page. However, when I preview the .aspx on Internet Explorer, all of the styles work except for the ones that apply to styling <a href> elements (for example, hover, color, etc.).
Adding the styles in-line to the <a href> elements in the master page make it so that they are reflected in the preview of the .aspx, but if I add the styles pertaining to links at the top of the master page using <styles> tags, it stops working, too.
Anyone have any ideas as to why styling links with an external stylesheet doesn't seem to work? Thank you in advance.
there are quite a few ways to reference your resources
<SharePoint:CssRegistration name="/Style Library/OVERRIDE.css" After="COREV4.css" runat="server"/>
be careful on testing on IE because often you will experience cache on the browser, cache on the load balancers, and the compatibility mode, which you can disable for yourself, but remember other users still have it enabled
I have just recently implemented the five star rating system from ajax, into my asp.net site. Everything works fine in locall debug mode.However. Once i publish it, the css does not show up. I have declared all of the css within the content page, not sure if this is why. I am very in-experienced with working with css; so i am sorry if it something simple.
I have checked the spelling of the image url, and have also tried implementing it into the site.css. But as i said, i am in-experienced; so am not sure what to do here.
This is my code as it stands:
The css declared at the top of the content page:
http://codepad.org/m1w39Hep
The reference to the css from my rating control:
http://codepad.org/Kl0BKets
Thanks in advance!
Check if your css links is right and your css files loaded successfully
I have seen your code.
Give extention as ".css" and not ".c"
I dont think that you can use Codepad for that because it does not give support for CSS.
If you are not using Codepad
Then as you are deploying it in server then check the URLs of the Images that are present in the CSS file for rating/.
I don't have a real need to omit the default core.css reference from my HTML pages but I would like to know so I can feel comfortable that I have full control. Thanks
There are many ways to achieve this.
The problem is, once you remove the core.css file you are talking about 6 thousand lines of places that will not appear with a presentation anymore. What I do when we are limited to theme-only visual customization I create a theme that will address any new CSS needs and also replace the elements in the core.css file (themes are loaded AFTER this file, so if you have duplicated declarations in both files, the theme's one will prevail, without using the !important mini-hacks).
Keep in mind that SharePoint in editing mode just doesn't work without this file, you have to use different approaches when you are, for example, talking about an internet-facing site with 100% anonymous users vs an intranet-like portal with everyone creating and editing content on the go.
With all the warnings given, you can go to your masterpage and remove the core.css tag making it invisible:
<SharePoint:CssLink runat="server" Visible="false"/>
Depending on your type of sharepoint site (WSS vs MOSS + Publishing Features) the masterpages may work differently based on configuration, by default (WSS or MOSS without Publishing Features or any change on the matter) your masterpage will open on all the link that do not contain /_layouts/ in the url.
Examples:
/Default.aspx => Masterpage
/DocumentLibrary/Forms/Allitems.aspx => MasterPage
/_layouts/viewlsts.aspx (Show all site content) => no custom
masterpage
This is Microsoft's way to stop you from breaking even more (system pages) with the masterpages, but you can be extreme and use HttpModules or editing the 12/Template/Layouts/LCID folder (affecting the entire web front-end)
Usual scenarios:
Anonymous sites with no core.css when the user is anonymous and normal load when credentials are given (loading speed)
Themes used to let users create their mini-sites and use the branded templates or other sharepoint themes
Masterpages to customize what most of the users usually see, forcing your branding throught the child webs (new websites in non-MOSS Publishing wont inherit the masterpage)
Everything-under-the-masterpage with HttpModules or /12/ modifications (very rinky and complicated)
Note: It's not recommended to customize files from the Site Definition when you can avoid doing so.
When using Mickel's advice, make a copy of the Default.master, rename it to something like Custom.master and apply changes to that file. Then right click your custom master page and select "Set as default master page."
This is all done from within SharePoint Designer btw
Simply add your own custom CSS style sheet via Central Admin - this will be applied last, after Core.css so you can override anything you wish. You do not want to remove it! :-)
