background image in h2 not showing up - css

I would classify myself as a beginner and discover answers through trial and error. However I can't solve this. I would like an image to be behind the h2 text on my homepage. I have tried placing it everywhere within here and nothing makes it show up.
Here is my site: http://bitsybride.com
Here is what I want: http://bitsybride.com/Image8.png
Here is the relevant css:
.smallpost {
overflow:hidden;
width:730px;
padding-bottom:0;}
ul.smallpost li {
width:290px;
height:130px;
margin:0 40px 60px 0;
padding:0px 0px 0px 0px;
position:relative;
float:left;
background: url(images/pink ribbon.png);}
ul.smallpost h2 {
font-size: 12pt;
line-height: 0pt;
margin: 0 0 0px 0;
padding:5px 0px 100px 15px;
letter-spacing: -1px;}
ul.smallpost li img {
margin:-20px 0 15px -20px;
width:280px;
height:150px;
overflow:hidden;
padding: 4px;
margin: 1px 1px 4px 1px;
overflow: hidden;
-moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.3); /*-moz-border-radius: 5px;-khtml- border-radius: 5px;-webkit-border-radius: 5px;border-radius: 5px;*/
-webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.3);
box-shadow: 0 1px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.3);
-o-linear-gradient(#2F2727, #1a82f7);
background:
-moz-linear-gradient(center top , #FFFFFF, #EFEFEF) repeat scroll 0 0 transparent
;
background: -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom,
from(#fff),
color-stop(0.5, #fff),
to(#EFEFEF)
);
filter: progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Gradient(StartColorStr='#ffffffff', EndColorStr='#EFEFEFEF');
-ms-filter: \"progid: DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=#ffffffff, endColorstr=#EFEFEFEF)";
-o-linear-gradient(top, #dcdcdc, #c6c6c6);
border: 1px solid #FFFFFF;
z-index: 5;}
Help!

If you want your h2's to have a background image, try this in your ul.smallpost h2
background-image: url('/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/bitsy2.png');
or wherever your image is.

use display:inline-block in your h2 tag
ul.smallpost li {
width:290px;
height:130px;
margin:0 40px 60px 0;
padding:0px 0px 0px 0px;
position:relative;
float:left;
}
ul.smallpost h2 {
font-size: 12pt;
line-height: 0pt;
margin: 0 0 0px 0;
padding:5px 0px 100px 15px;
letter-spacing: -1px;
background: url(images/pink ribbon.png);
display:inline-block;
}

create multiple evenly spaced horizontal lines with only css

Is it possible to create multiple horizonal evenly spaced lines using only CSS? I am trying to replicate the look of a notecard and I would prefer not to use images. Seems like this should be possible. It looks like this person accomplished what i want to do, but they are using mozilla specific tags: Fiddle
Guess I have to add in code if I include a fiddle link.
The CSS from that page:
div {
background:
-moz-repeating-linear-gradient(center top , #fafafa, #fafafa 22px, #81CBBC 24px) repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
border: 1px solid #f6f6f6;
box-shadow: 0 2px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1);
margin: 30px auto;
padding: 22px 15px 40px;
position: relative;
width: 400px;
color: #444;
}
h1 {
font: 24px/26px 'Helvetica Neue', Arial;
margin: 0 0 6px;
}
li {
font: 12px/16px Georgia;
margin: 0 0 7px;
}
div:before {
content: '';
z-index: -1;
width: 433px;
position: absolute;
bottom: -12px;
left: 4px;
height: 190px;
box-shadow: 0 2px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.15);
background: -moz-repeating-linear-gradient(center top , #fafafa, #fafafa 22px, #81CBBC 24px) repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
-moz-transform: rotate(-1deg);
}
div:after{
content: '';
z-index: -3;
width: 433px;
position: absolute;
bottom: -18px;
left: 6px;
box-shadow: 0 2px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.15);
height: 190px;
background: -moz-repeating-linear-gradient(center top , #fafafa, #fafafa 22px, #81CBBC 24px) repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
-moz-transform: rotate(-1deg);
}
Is this what you mean?
Fiddle
box-shadow:0 1px 0 1px #fff, 0 2px 0 1px #ccc, 0 4px 0 1px #fff, 0 5px 0 1px #ccc;

adjusting css width for customized drop down box

Here is drop down box I got to work for me.
But it goes outof boundry on left end. Actually menu items should fit exactly below the text box.
Check Fiddle
I tried changing width of all element but could not set it. Can some one tell me which class exactly controls width of menu item which appear when dropdown box is popped?
css:
.container {
width:90%;
margin:10% auto;
}
.dropdown-menu{
width:85%;
margin:0 auto;
}
.twitter-typeahead .tt-query, .twitter-typeahead .tt-hint {
margin-bottom: 0;
width: 360px; !important;
}
.twitter-typeahead .tt-hint {
display: block;
height: 34px;
padding: 6px 12px;
font-size: 14px;
line-height: 1.428571429;
border: 1px solid transparent;
border-radius:4px;
}
.twitter-typeahead .hint-small {
height: 30px;
padding: 5px 10px;
font-size: 12px;
border-radius: 3px;
line-height: 1.5;
}
.twitter-typeahead .hint-large {
height: 45px;
padding: 10px 16px;
font-size: 18px;
border-radius: 6px;
line-height: 1.33;
}
.tt-dropdown-menu {
min-width: 260px;
margin-top: 2px;
padding: 5px 0;
background-color: #fff;
border: 1px solid #ccc;
border: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, .2);
*border-right-width: 2px;
*border-bottom-width: 2px;
-webkit-border-radius: 6px;
-moz-border-radius: 6px;
border-radius: 6px;
-webkit-box-shadow: 0 5px 10px rgba(0, 0, 0, .2);
-moz-box-shadow: 0 5px 10px rgba(0, 0, 0, .2);
box-shadow: 0 5px 10px rgba(0, 0, 0, .2);
-webkit-background-clip: padding-box;
-moz-background-clip: padding;
background-clip: padding-box;
}
.tt-suggestion {
display: block;
padding: 3px 20px;
}
.tt-suggestion.tt-is-under-cursor {
color: #fff;
background-color: #0081c2;
background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #0088cc, #0077b3);
background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear, 0 0, 0 100%, from(#0088cc), to(#0077b3));
background-image: -webkit-linear-gradient(top, #0088cc, #0077b3);
background-image: -o-linear-gradient(top, #0088cc, #0077b3);
background-image: linear-gradient(to bottom, #0088cc, #0077b3);
background-repeat: repeat-x;
filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr='#ff0088cc', endColorstr='#ff0077b3', GradientType=0)
}
.tt-suggestion.tt-is-under-cursor a {
color: #fff;
}
.tt-suggestion p {
margin: 0;
}
On your class .dropdown-menu add this:
.dropdown-menu{
width:360px;
left:auto;
margin:0 auto;
}
The Fiddle demo
It's because 360px is the size of your input .twitter-typeahead .tt-query, .twitter-typeahead .tt-hint.
And the left:auto to keep the original distance no matter the absolute position.

unable to centralize dropdownmenu using CSS

I know there are many posts on centralizing a drop down menu. However, after trying all the various solutions, it seems that I'm still missing something. I got the code of a dropdownmenu from some free website as follows:

I tried to embed the menu with div having style of using margin-left and margin-right as auto but it still could not work probably due to the use of float:left.
Sorry if it this question seems repeated. I'm still new to CSS so I hope some kind soul can help me out here! Thanks!
Try:
#nav {
margin: 0;
}
#menu {
text-align: center;
}
Your updated fiddle.
not sure what the desired effect is, but using your #menu style, you can move that nav wherever you want:
#menu {
width:600px;
height:50px;
background-color:red;
padding-left:10px;
}
I just did a background color so you can see where your nav is in relation to the div. Post any other HTML you have so I can make changes if this isn't what you want.

CSS: Anchor height depends on font-size

I am trying to have a image on CSS text button. If I increase font-size to 26 px, image appear properly.I want to keep the font-size at 20px but fit image properly.
a.button {
border: 1px solid #979797;
}
a.button.icon {
padding-left: 11px;
}
a.button.icon span{
padding-left: 48px;
background: url(../img/gmail2.png) no-repeat;
}
a.button.icon.chat span {
background-position: 0px -48;
}
a.button {
background-image: -moz-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff, #dbdbdb);
background-image: -webkit-gradient(linear,left top,left bottom,
color-stop(0, #ffffff),color-stop(1, #dbdbdb));
filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient
(startColorStr='#ffffff', EndColorStr='#dbdbdb');
-ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient
(startColorStr='#ffffff', EndColorStr='#dbdbdb')";
border: 1px solid #fff;
-moz-box-shadow: 0px 0px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4);
-webkit-box-shadow: 0px 0px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4);
box-shadow: 0px 0px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.4);
border-radius: 2px;
-webkit-border-radius: 2px;
-moz-border-radius: 2px;
padding: 5px 5px;
text-decoration: none;
text-shadow: #fff 0 1px 0;
float: left;
margin-right: 15px;
margin-bottom: 15px;
display: block;
color: #597390;
line-height: 38px;
font-size: 20px;
font-weight: bold;
}
What about setting an specific height for a.button.icon span ?

css background-position not working in IE 7 and 8

This page renders great in FF, Chrome, etc.. However in IE 7 and 8, the close "X" which is a background image does not line up. Any ideas? I tried to set the background-position etc..
The code I have:
.startup-container
{
width: 455px;
}
.close-startup-home
{
background: #c00 url("http://spotlightonhealthyliving.com/btn_closex.png") 0px -8px no-repeat;
float: right;
height: 52px;
width: 60px;
}
.menu-outer
{
background: #545454;
-moz-border-radius:5px;
border-radius:5px;
-moz-box-shadow: 0px 0px 5px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, .4);
box-shadow: 0px 0px 5px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, .4);
}
.menu-inner
{
background: #3f3f3f;
-moz-box-shadow: inset 0px 0px 4px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, .1);
box-shadow: inset 0px 0px 4px 3px rgba(0, 0, 0, .1);
-moz-border-radius:5px;
border-radius:5px;
}
.startup-box
{
width:439px;
line-height:20px;
text-align: center;
color:#fff;
padding-top:5px;
padding-bottom:5px;
}
.startup-box-inner
{
width:389px;
height:99px;
padding:20px;
margin-left:5px;
margin-right:5px;
}
<div class="startup-container">
<div class="close-startup-home"></div>
<div class="menu-outer startup-box">
<div class="menu-inner startup-box-inner"></div>
</div>
</div>
Give a position: absolute to your div containing the close button and position it according to that.
.startup-container {
width: 455px;
position: relative
}
.close-startup-home {
background: #c00 url("http://spotlightonhealthyliving.com/btn_closex.png") 0px -8px no-repeat;
float: right;
height: 52px;
width: 60px;
position: absolute;
right: 0;
}
