How can i edit the default drupal node view page - drupal

I am trying to edit the default page view of a node in Drupal and i found the file called node.tpl.php but even if i change it, the node page on the site isn't updated...
So how can i update the node view page so i can added some text, images etc.. ?
I guess that node_show function () { } is the one that displays the node but the code there doesn't give me enough detail on where the HTML is created so i can it

You need to copy the file to your theme's templates folder and clear the cache out before you can use this file. The original file should be at root/modules/node/
You can also set a template up for a specific content type by copying the default node.tpl.php file and renaming it to node--CONTENT_TYPE_MACHINE_NAME.tpl.php

Drupal basic page doesn’t seem to use page.tpl.php

Title says it really. Basic pages created in Drupal don’t seem to use the page.tpl.php file as a template.
If I edit the html.tpl.php file, those changes apply to every page, and it causes errors when I load a basic page.
I have also tried to copy the page.tpl.php file and name it page—basic-page.tpl.php to no avail.
Any idea what’s going on?
Also, how do I go about changing the page_top variable to include more content?
Lastly, the default page.tpl.php file has $page variables and things like $page_top and the like.
How would I call the title from the page only and the body text of a page only?
I’m using Drupal 7 and a custom sub theme.
The aforementioned files are in the template folder of the theme and I did clear caches when I added them.
Add $conf['theme_debug'] = TRUE; in settings.php and clear cache, reload page and check view source.
It will display the template file suggestions.
page.tpl.php file common for all pages. Just print anything to the tpl and run any node of basic page as well as other content type page and check if its working or not. If page.tpl.php not working for basic page only, then check your template.php file.
For print a page title just need to use following code:
<?php print $title; ?>
For print body text you need to use following:
<?php print render($page['content']); ?>
This may depend on the theme you are using. But I guess you are actually meaning page--page.tpl.php (double dashes). Which will be taken into account after you added the following snippet to your theme's template.php. Replace MYTHEME with your theme's machine name.
function MYTHEME_preprocess_page(&$variables) {
if (isset($variables['node']->type)) {
// If the content type's machine name is "my_machine_name" the file
// name will be "page--my-machine-name.tpl.php".
$variables['theme_hook_suggestions'][] = 'page__' . $variables['node']->type; // (double underscores)
}
}
See Template (theme hook) suggestions, where I also got above snippet from.
active theme debug for inspecting the template source and you get a different suggestions to user it (just avoid using node/nid).
commend drush to enable theme debug drush vset theme_debug 1

Custom 404 Basic Page in Drupal 7 Has Blank Title Tag

I have created a basic page in drupal 7 to use as my 404. I configured under Configuration -> System -> Site Information to use this page and when an unknown URL is entered, it does indeed display this page while maintaining the unknown URL. For SEO purposes, I really want Page Not Found in the html title tags but it is missing. If you go directly to the basic page, the title tags are correct. Is there a setting somewhere that I am missing?
I used the metatag module's configuration for the 404 page to achieve the desired title tags
When you create a any page, you will get node id of the respective page.
In your case, you need to copy page.tpl.php file and rename new file with your node id like for example : page--node--1.tpl.php
Now, put below code in your newly created template file and clear the cache.
if($title) {
print $title;
}

In Wordpress website, connecting to another web_based application

I want to create a page in word press website, that shows information from external DB by API. What should I do?
But other pages and theme are in the Wordpress database.
Thanks in Advance
Set up a custom template. It can contain all the custom code you need, such as the API to call the external database. You create a new template by copying and modifying the page.php file from your theme. Just remove the parts you don't want and at the top put your new template name in a comment line like this:
/* Template Name: External-DB-Page */
Save that to a file such as external_db.php, upload it to your theme or child theme directory and then in your functions.php you include the file by adding
require_once 'external_db.php';
This new template called "External-DB-Page" will now be a selection available when choosing a page template for any page in WordPress.

How do I display either body or file from content

I am a new in Drupal. I want your help for doing this please help
I have created one Content type with fields( Title, Body, File) and also added content through this content type. But Some of the content didn't have file filed and some of the content having the only file. In the view, I want to show both either body or file. if suppose file field is empty then it should display the body of the same content.
Thanks.
You could do this by creating a custom node template for particular content type. So if you have a content type 'news', for example, the you can create a node template for this content type and customized the front-end display of the content. See below how it would work.
As per the Drupal theme suggestions, create a node template, named, node--news.tpl.php (copying the existing node.tpl.php file) in your custom (active) theme directory under the templates folder. On this template, you will be able to access the $node object variable, containing complete node information including fields and data.
Suppose your fields are field_image and body then replace your template's code print render($content); with the following lines:
if(!empty($content['body']){
print render($content['body']);
} else {
print render($content['field_image']);
}

Custom template file for displaying the inner blog contents

I am trying to create a custom layout for my blog listing and blog content display pages.
The following url will display all the latest blogs based on the conditions that I have set.
http://fqdn/general-blog
When I click on the 'Read more' button corresponding to a button, it will display the full blog contents in another page.
Sample format : http://fqdn/general-blog/tourist-details
I am able to modify the layout of the page corresponding to blog listing. For this, I have created a custom tpl file : page--general-blog.tpl.php.
What I want is to create a new template file for displaying the contents of individual blogs.
The individual blog content display page is not entering - page--general-blog.tpl.php file. It's always using the template - page.tpl.php.
I tried creating separate tpl files like :
page--general-blog--%.tpl.php
But, the changes in this template is not getting effect in the individual blog content display page.
How should I move forward. Has someone had any similar situations?
If your content type has name general-blog,you should name single blog entry template as node--general-blog.tpl.php. See
Theming nodes by content type for details.
If you need to theme whole page template depending on node type, you should add following code in your template.php:
function YOURTHEME_preprocess_page(&$variables) {
if (!empty($variables['node']) && !empty($variables['node']->type)) {
$variables['theme_hook_suggestions'][] = 'page__node__' . $variables['node']->type;
}
}
And then use page--node--general-blog.tpl.php file (see Page templates depending on node type for details).
Don't forget to clear the theme registry after creating new template file.
