CSS rule not working - css

I am trying to apply the folowing css rule
div#ja-navhelper.wrap {
display: none !important;
}
to the following joomla site
http://nuevas-tecnologias.org/index.php
but it is not working
any idea why?

It is bad practice to do this div#idofelement. It is better to just do this: #idofelement

Are you sure you're actually setting it? Because I'm not seeing it anywhere in your CSS for the website when I check using Developer Tools. However, you do have an empty #ja-navhelper{} and if I simply set display:none; inside it via Developer Tools... it works!

Django Material navbar issue

We're using Django Material (MaterializeCSS as CSS framework) on a new project we are building, and we got an issue with a language selector in the admin navbar. The issue is happening on Firefox, not on Chrome, and I couldn't find what's causing this. Can you check it please? The URL is: https://accountant.swapps.io.
Here is how it looks for reference.
The templates doesn't have a lot, and the CSS for this is minimal but I can provide code if needed. Thanks!
The dropdown is set as a block element making it to take more space. This should fix it.
.nav-wrapper .select-wrapper input.select-dropdown {
display: inline;
}

CSS'ing TinyMCE on a Diazo'ed Plone site

I had thought that TinyMCE was supposed to remain untouched by the Diazo theme, however some CSS from somewhere is leaking in and making certain functions harder to use. One such example is below, the line height on all the rows has become super short, making each row hard to select.
In Firebug, I can fix this by adding a min-height value here, a value set in dialog.css:
.radioscrolllist .list {min-height: 2em;}
However, I cannot find where to actually set this and have it stick. I've tried putting it in the Diazo theme style.css, in ploneCustom.css, and customizing both portal_skins/tinymce/themes/advanced/skins/plone/dialog.css and portal_skins/tinymce/plugins/plonebrowser/css/plonebrowser.css — none of these seem to do the trick though.
Any ideas on how/where to make this fix? The problem only shows up on the Diazo version of the site, not from the unthemed version. It looks like the only CSS files that load on the TinyMCE iframe are:
dialog.css
plonebrowser.css
columns.css
This is what I have in my project CSS to deal with a similar issue, though I find different issues on each project depending on what I do with the general CSS & columns in particular:
/* Fix TinyMCE gremlins */
#internallinkcontainer div.row {
/* Image browser was jumbled */
float: none;
}
#content #internallinkcontainer .list.item span,
#content #internallinkcontainer .list.item a {
/* Link browser was packed too much */
position: inherit;
}
#internallinkcontainer input[type="radio"] {
vertical-align: middle;
}
/* #end */
Which get's my Link Browser looking like this again:
Apart from the Diazo-CSS troubles, it sounds like you might be having trouble with
plone.css getting cached. The following is from the developer manual with amendments by myself that have not yet been pulled in.
plone.css
plone.css is automagically generated dynamically based on the full portal_css registry configuration. It is used in e.g. TinyMCE to load all CSS styles into the TinyMCE in a single pass. It is not used on the normal Plone pages.
plone.css generation:
https://github.com/plone/Products.CMFPlone/blob/master/Products/CMFPlone/skins/plone_scripts/plone.css.py
Note: plone.css is #import-ed by dialog.css which "hides" it from a browser refresh of a normal Plone page, even when Plone is in development mode. This means you may find you do not see your CSS updates within the TinyMCE plugin (e.g. in the link/image browser) whilst developing your theme. If this is the case, then simply do a hard refresh in your browser directly on: /plone.css to clear the cached version.
I just faced the same issue last week. My workaround was adding this in my theme's CSS (the tinymce dialogs are not part of the iframe that contains the content being edited; they are in the main frame):
#internallinkcontainer.radioscrolllist { line-height: auto !important; }
#internallinkcontainer .list.item span, #internallinkcontainer .list.item a { position: static !important; }
(Clearly we should find a less hacky solution, but I haven't had a chance.)
You almost answered it to yourself: You can customize column.css, that'll work, no important-declarations needed.
Additionally this seems not to be Diazo-related, the ploneCustom.css will also not be delivered to the dialog-window in a non-diazo'ed site, hmm.

css compressor and factorization

I'm working with a friend on a project with a huge CSS file.
There is a lot of duplication like:
h1 {
color : black;
}
h1 {
color : blue;
width: 30px;
}
The first h1 can be removed, because it will never be used, because fully rewrited by the second. (because it is in the same CSS file)
I would know if it exists a tool that factorizes (and compress) this kind of stuff.
To only have at the end:
h1 {color:blue;width:30px}
PS: If it can be an online tool, it will be perfect!
There's a nice one in ruby: http://zmoazeni.github.io/csscss
In node.js: https://github.com/rbtech/css-purge
Both are very easy to use from command line.
This is also a nice once: http://cssmerge.sourceforge.net
And a plugin for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/css-usage
First you can try
CSS usage checker
Then Try these
CSS Compressor
Javascript Compressor
If you are using Firefox, you can use this addon which will help you achieve it.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/css-usage/
It creates a new css which tells you only used rules and sideline unused one. It also lets you export that css.

CSS background image bug in Chrome

I'm having a weird bug in Chrome, I'm applying the following CSS rule to an element:
#element {
background-color: #0E0F10;
background-image: url(images/the_background.jpg);
}
Now the first time I open a new page containing "#element", the background image isn't shown until I refresh the page cache with ctrl+f5.
I tried adding Pragma, Expires and Cache-control meta tags and it don't make any difference.
The only way to make the image to be shown at the first time is to put the absolute url in this way:
#element {
background-color: #0E0F10;
background-image: url(http://site.com/images/the_background.jpg);
}
Now the problem is that I can't hardcode a site url, I need to use a relative or relative to the root path.
Looking around I found a dirty trick for fixing a related bug in Chrome that coincidentally also fixs this problem: http://blog.andrewcantino.com/blog/2012/02/15/fixing-the-chrome-background-refresh-bug/
Basically when I open the page the first time, all the background images are reloaded through JavaScript and from here on it works fine.
However I would like to implement a more elegant fix or find the real cause of the problem.
I'll appreciate any advice.
try
background: #0E0F10 url('http://site.com/images/the_background.jpg');
also, be sure to add a width and a height to your selector!
use relative path in style rule solve my problem. such as image url is "http://site.com/images/the_background.jpg", and your css file url is "http://site.com/stylesheet/style.css", use "../images/the_background.jpg" instead of "/images/the_background.jpg" in your style rule.
I happened to run into the same problem just before I believe.
Since you haven't accepted any of the answers. You might want to try, what worked for me:
Instead of:
background-image: url(images/the_background.jpg);
Change it to:
background-image: url('images/the_background.jpg');
With ticks... It seems odd, but it did the trick for me. Since all of my url's also had an underscore, it might be related to this, though I am not sure.
Anyway, putting the url in quotes, should make it work.
See that this is old question. But just faced the same problem. My problem was related with z-index. Increased value for example z-index:2000; and now as if all works. Just need to check z-index for other elements
If your file structure is like this
Main Folder
css
img
index file
then type this syntax:
#element{
background-image: url(../img/example.jpg);
}
Wrtie this code your bug will be solved.

Fancybox: Overriding CSS

How do I override the css of a fancybox?
I'm building a website that uses fancybox on two different pages, and I want to override the fancybox css on one of these pages so the arrows are pushed outside of the box.
IE I would like to impart these properties on the fancybox:
.fancybox-prev {
left: -80px !important;
}
.fancybox-next {
right: -80px;
}
I can't figure out how to accomplish this and solutions to other relevant stackoverflow problems don't work. I'm sure there's a simple way to do it.
Can anybody help me out?
$('.fancybox-prev').attr('style', 'left: -80px !important');
$('.fancybox-next').attr('style', 'right: -80px');
You have to remember about hirarchy of the CSS. Inline CSS are the most important ones, external CSS will be read second.
When it comes to the latter, they are read from the top of your CSS file. So writing the style, which you want to use to override a previous one, below, should do the work just fine.
Secondly, you can always use jQuery to do that. ShaggyInjun gave a good example. You should be able to do that by using $(selector).css();.
if using fancybox v1.3.4 check:
http://fancybox.net/faq No.8 .... it also might be useful to check this.
if using fancybox v2.x check :
https://stackoverflow.com/a/8672001/1055987
Basically, you have to set a CSS inline declaration AFTER you have loaded the fancybox css file in order to override those properties.
