I have a SQL db that holds the records for my page. On my page I have a details view I want to populate with records from my db. I can populate the records just fine, I need to be able to populate in records based on a user selection from a drop box?
To clarify, on my main page I have a drop down list with years (ie. 2011, 2010, 2009), and a drop down containing account codes (ie. six-digit numbers). Based on what the user chooses for the year (for example 2010) and the what they choose for the account code (for example 123456) I want to populate the details view (which is on a seperate page) with only those records from 2010 and with the account code 123456??
Far far haven't seen a way to make it work?
To fill the DetailsView based on input from form controls is actually quite straightforward. You're basically using the controls to supply parameter values to plug into the WHERE clause of a select statement.
In essence, you define your SqlDataSource to take Control parameters.

If the details view is on a different page, you can do the same thing using QueryString parameters, but that leaves you open to tampering. (People changing the values in thequery string to get at records they shouldn't see.) If tampering isn't an issue with your specific situation - the data isn't sensitive in nature, then it shouldn't be an issue, but its' something to be aware of.

I have a SqlDataSource, defined in the Master Page, that gets the current user permissions for the web application Select * from portal_users where userid = #userid, where portal_users is a view i built with all the data needed. I need to access the contents on the returned row so I can disable/enable site features according to the user permissions. This results in a lot of if blocks across the child pages to do it.
I browsed around forums and I only found issues about assigning those values to controls like i.e. label. Is there a way to access the SqlDataSource from the Master Page, get the row that is returned, select 1 or more column's values and assign them to variables?

Within AX 2009, I have, through compare and compile, added two new controls within a datagrid on a form, a Real edit and a combobox. I have compiled with no issues. The Allow Edit property is set to Yes on both controls.
However, on the form, if I edit one row, whether typing a new number with Real edit or combobox, and don't hit Save but hit the Down Arrow key, the data I typed on the previous records is duplicate in the next record and so on until I release the Down Arrow key, rather than just setting the focus on a new record.
The table where these fields were created doesn't exhibit this behavior. The focus simply moves to the next record and what was typed will not carry over to the next record. Only the form does this...
Has anyone seen this behavior before with AX forms?
You may have omitted to specify the data source on the grid itself?
Or if the new controls are based on Edit methods on the data source, have you got the data source parameter in the method signature?

I'm currently working on an ASP.Net WebForms application that allows a user to select an item from a list, which ultimately results in a SSRS report being shown, using Report Viewer 2010 (in server mode). The report has been coded with a parameter #id to allow the report to display the correct data for the selected item.
The reports dataset can return multiple rows where some of the data is displayed in a summary area at the top (not in the header section) for example a textbox would have the expression =FIRST(Fields!Address.Value, "dsMain"). The data returned is denormalized so Address will always be the same value. Which is why using FIRST() works. And the rest of the data is shown in a Tablix with grouping applied etc.
But now I'm looking to change this so users can select multiple items and therefore effectively show the report multiple times, but shown in the same report viewer control. The main requirement is to batch print the reports, so showing it in one report view control is important to allow for one click printing of everything.
Now because I didn't design the report in the first place and because its fairly complex in its layout and the sql that is executed; the sql is geared towards running for one id and not a list of them. I'm looking for options to not have to rewrite the report or the sql.
Is it possible to give the report viewer the id parameter as a list and let the report viewer execute same report for each id passed? - I know report parameter can accept multiple values but this isn't the same since the report will unintelligently pass the first value to my stored procedure but not repeat the report for the other values. Perhaps there's a setting in the report designer that allows it to repeat if it is passed multiple values?
Can someone suggest something else to get this working? Or is my only option to extend the report and sql to accept multiple id's and effectively redesign the report?

The answer is to use sub-reports.
Create a new report that takes a list of ids as a multi valued parameter.
Use that parameter as the dataset for a list control.
Have a subreport inside the list. Report inside the list is your original report.
You can then pass each element of your dataset(your list of parameters) as parameter to the your sub-report.
SSRS will repeat it as your want.
I have a form in which I am attaching a workflow to. The form has a number that will be auto-generated. For example the first number will be 1, the next time the form is opened the number should be 2, so on and so forth. The issue I am having is: in the Default Value under the Text Box Properties I have the Value as: count(mynumber QuoteNumber) +1. When the form is generated the first and only number is 2 the number begins at 2 and never increases. Can someone help me with this or explain what I may be doing wrong? Thank You. I'm not using visual studio.
Rachel: I have fought with this problem since InfoPath 2007. Here is how I do it.
Since you say you are attaching a workflow, I assume you are using the from in SharePoint.
1 - create your form library in SharePoint
2 - use InfoPath to design the form. When you publish the form to SP, make sure you promote AT LEAST the ID field you want to auto-inc. (I usually promote every field in my forms, 'cause I like to use them like SP lists.)
3 - In SP, create one new form and manually set the ID field to the starting number for your form series.
4 - return to InfoPath designer and re-open your form template.
5 - create a new data source to receive data from your SP form library and specify your form library as the source, and the ID field as a data element. Name the data source something like “ID Lookup”.
6 - open the properties of the field you want to auto-inc on your form and, in the default value box, select function, then choose the MAX function.
And add “+1” after the function to increment by 1.
Now, double-click in the field are of the Max function. You will see a dialog showing your form fields. Notice the drop-down at the top of the dialog – here you can choose the data source (notice I named mine “sales Contracts” in this example). If you select the data source you created in step 5, you will see a dialog showing you a couple of data branches.
Expand the ‘dataFields’ branch until you see the field you want to auto-inc. Click on this.
Your formula dialog will look something like:
max(ID_X0020) + 1
With your field name instead of the 'ID' in the Max function – the function will now return the Maximum value of the field IN THE FORM LIBRARY, plus 1.
Save the form in InfoPath and try previewing it. You will probably get a security warning – your InfoPath form is grabbing data from your SharePoint library on the fly. You may even get asked to re-enter your password (I usually do). When the new, blank form is displayed in InfoPath preview, you should see you ID field filled in with a value one greater that the number in that field of your SP library.
There is one huge Gothca with this method - if users re-open a completed form to edit it, the formula will probably try to replace the ID number. If your users don't edit the forms after they are submitted, the this will work for you.

You aren't doing anything wrong - you just have to change how you think about "forms" a bit. Remember a form is just like a word document template. Suppose you save a word document on your hard drive with a blank spot to fill in your name. Later you open the template, type your name, and save a copy as V1.doc. When you go back and open the template again - your name is not there because it was saved in V1.doc. Everytime you open the template you start again from scratch.
Infopath forms that you design and that the user fills out are templates (.xsn files). When the user fills it out and saves it they are really saving a copy which is only data (.xml files). The .xsn template doesn't change when users interact with it.
So to answer your question - there is no way directly in InfoPath to cleanly keep track of an auto incrementing ID. You will need to tap into some code (webservice, sharepoint, etc) to do that. You could also consider making the ID a GUID (which infopath does support) but it won't be auto incrementing and it won't look "clean" if it has to be displayed/used by real people.
Using the ASP.NET grid view. It displays 3 columns with 1 row for each, displaying an integer saved in the database. I would like to have a text input one for each column, so the user can add a new row of integers to the database. (The table only displays the last row updated, that part seems to be working OK)
Here is the code I have that displays data but without the input option I would like.
What is the way this is done in ASP.NET (3.5)? Are there more options in the control or do I need to manually bring in text input controls and give each one manual code to update the database? Any help is appreciated.
