Design Mode not working in Flex Builder 3 - apache-flex

When i try to open my mxml script in design mode i'm always getting following message "This Component is base on VBox, which is not a visual component. Switch to source mode to edit it"
Anything wrong with my installation?

Update to Flex Builder 3.0.1 to use design mode with Flex 3.1 SDK. You can download the latest Flex Builder update at http://www.adobe.com/support/flex/downloads_updaters.html.

Flash Builder 4.5: could not resolve X to a component implementation

I just upgraded out Flex project to use SDK version 4.5.1.21328 and the Flash Builder to version 4.5
All of the sudden, I'm getting several red tags on the Flash Builder: "could not resolve s:State/fx:Script/whatever to a component implementation"
However, the project builds fine with Maven, and seems to work well too.
Does anyone have any information on how to remove these "problems"?
Thanks.
Finally managed to find a workaround. Adding
--namespace+=http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009,${flexlib}/mxml-2009-manifest.xml --namespace+=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml,${flexlib}/mxml-manifest.xml --namespace+=library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark,${flexlib}/spark-manifest.xml
to the "Additional compiler arguments" in properties -> Flex Compiler seems to remove all the red markers.
Great tip. Error I was getting was:
Could not resolve <mx:RichTextEditor> to a component implementation.
I had to add the above settings and do the following to get mine to compile.
Here's what I did:
project properties->Flex Build->Path-> Library path tab. press Add SWC...
add C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Flash Builder 4.5/sdks/4.5.1/frameworks/libs/mx/mx.swc
Then in the Source Path tab press add folder navigate to:
C:/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Flash Builder 4.5/sdks/4.5.1/frameworks/projects/mx/src
then add in the namespaces as listed in the above article. That fixed it for me.
Clean.
Just as the commenter said, usually just a strange Flash Builder bug. If Project -> Clean... doesn't fix it, comment or revise question.
Your batch builder might be using a different set of library files than the IDE. Look in Project | Properties under Build Path and see what version of the SDK it's using.

Flex Builder Plugin in Eclipse - Some Controls not available !

I downloaded Flash Builder from here : Download
I recently started writing some small programs in Adobe Flash Builder Plugin for Eclipse.
I am trying out those programs by reading out the Adobe book : Training from the source.
But, I found that some of the controls mentioned in the book for some e.g, such as ApplicationControlBar doesn't appear in the Adobe Flash Builder 4. That control is mentioned in the book, but unable to find in the Builder.
What should I do ? Any suggestions ?
I suppose you've created project using Flex 4 SDK which is default in Flash Builder 4. And the book covers Flex 3. So Flash Builder created spark Application container (from Flex 4) where ApplicationControlBar isn't actual anymore and replaced with controlBarContent property which allows to skin Application more flexible way.
So I can recommend you the following 3 solutions how to use Flex 3 (to be compliant with the book) in your project:
The easiest way to switch existing Flex 4 project to use Flex 3 is the following. Open project properties then Flex compiler > Flex SDK version > Use a specific SDK and select Flex 3 SDK which should be available there. Then you need to create new application in your project, select it as default using context menu, copy old application context to the new one and delete old application file. But I suppose it is better to create new project as far as you are dealing with sample apps from the book.
So just create new Flex project and select the right SDK version on the New Project master's first page.
If you plan to use only Flex 3 for your book's playground workspace you can set Flex 3 SDK as default so you won't need to select the right version on project creation. Just go to the Preferences > Flash Builder > Installed Flex SDKs and select the default version. You can go there right from the new Flex project wizard by clicking Configure Flex SDKs…
Hope this helps!
I've never seen or heard of an ApplicationControlBox. Perhaps they were referring to the ApplicationControlBar and that it's just a typo.
Adobe has some great documentation out there on each of its packages and classes. It's a great place to start if you ever have a question about one of the components.

Creating Flex 3.5 components with Flash CS5

Is there a way to create components compatible with Flex 3.5 by using Flash CS5? I'm stumped. Whenever I run the "Convert Symbol to Flex Component" command and then try to use the resulting .swc file in a Flex 3.5 app, I get multiple instances of the following error:
1046: Type was not found or was not a
compile-time constant: Matrix3D.
1046: Type was not found or was not a
compile-time constant: Vector3D.
Any help or suggestions?
I had the same problem. I found a work around, though. You need to create the component using Flash Builder by dragging a Flash Professional Component onto your application. (You must be in Design Mode to do this.) Then, in the properties sheet, there will be a button labeled "Create In Flash Professional..." Clicking this button will create a Flash Document with all the correct frameworks and sdks and launch Flash Professional.
The errors you are seeing are usually brought on by a version mismatch between the Flex SDK that the SWC was compiled against and the Flex SDK of your project.
When creating SWCs using the Flash Pro interface, I'm not sure if they can be used in Flex. Generally SWCs are not sharable between Flex and Flash. People either recompile the source code or generate a SWF and embed it or load it using a SWFLoader.
If you're using the Flex Component Kit for Flash make sure you're using the same kit that came with the SDK you plan to target.

Creating custom taskbar icon in Flex application

I'm trying to create custom icons for my taskbar/desktop icons in my Flex WindowedApplication. So far, I've edited my -app.xml file to include the following:
icons/t_16.png
icons/t_32.png
icons/t_48.png
icons/t_128.png
When the application is run, however, the default flex/air icon is still showing. I have my systemChrome set to standard, and transparent to false, not that they have any relevance to this.
Any ideas?
Have you actually built a release version and installed your air app, or is just the debug version ?
UPDATE:
You have to deploy a release
version before the custom application
icon will be enabled.

Getting started with Flex3

I'm a little bit confused.
I want to start learn Flex3 with Eclipse and the FlexPlugin .
But I can't find the link.
Is the Standalone version of FlexBuilder free ?
How do i set up the Enviorement ?
Do i have to download the FlexBuilder ( free?)
Or do i have to download Eclipse and then add the plugin ( link ? )
Can anyone help me :(
Flex Builder Standalone will work as is just download and use, but no version of flex builder is free, you get a trail version of 30 days or so.
For Flex Builder plugin version you need to first download Eclipse from eclipse.org and then download the Flex plugin. On installation of the flex plugin, the wizard will prompt you to point it the eclipse (unzipped) location, it will take care of installing the plugins.
The plugin version is useful if you want to work on java based projects, if you just want to learn flex use Flex Builder Standalone version.
Flex Builder is not free. You can use Flash Develop together with flex sdk (both are free) to get syntax highlighting and code completion in mxml/AS files.
Actually, you can get hold of Flex Builder for free, assuming you fit into one of two categories, if you are unemployed or in education (educator or student)
See freeriatools.
Adobe Flex Builder is not free but you can download trial. Flex SDK is free though and will be enough at least for hello world examples.
