ajax window while executing code in the background asp.net - asp.net

I have a three pages form in which I need to collect data.
While transferring from one page to another I would like to display ajax window which will say, for example, "saving your data", and while that is shown on the screen I would like to run a code in the background?

Try this way.
While saving data call the ajax model popup on the click event and initialize the thread in the init event of popup window and once the work is done, close the popup window.
Model Popup will also disable the other control on the page using background css.
public void SimpleWork()
{
//Do something
}
Now you use either this method
ThreadStart operation = new ThreadStart(SimpleWork);
Thread theThread = new Thread(Operation);
theThread.Start();
or
ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(delegate{SimpleWork();});
If you find it useful, Mark it as your answer else let me know..

How navigate to next page using AJAX in MVC4?

I don't have so much experience using AJAX in a MVC application, in fact is my first facing. Please check the below image and note the rectangles.
The image is just an example that I took from internet.
The biggest rectangle is a partial view in my application and I have to render it when the user press Continue or Continuar button. The application should replace the current view for another without refresh the page.
This is the code which I'm testing, note first that I'm passing the first element of a list, but when the user press the button, render the view with the next element index = 2.
public ActionResult DoTest()
{
if (!Request.IsAjaxRequest())
{ }
List<Worksheet> worksheets = new List<Worksheet>()
{
new Worksheet("Hoja 1", ...),
new Worksheet("Hoja 2", ...)
};
return View(worksheets[0]);
}
Can orient me a little bit to know how to implement this feature? I just know that I need to use Ajax.
Have a look through the tutorials and examples here. There's plenty of other material around on the web with information on this subject.
There are many different ways you can achieve this. One way would be to write a custom paging Helper (HtmlHelper) that accepts new content upon the post event. You can view all about Helpers here : Custom HTML Helpers
Another way could be to use partial page rendering to achieve the partial page update upon post event.
If I was you I would combine a partial view with a jquery function to update the content. You can view some help on that here: Change dive content with Jquery

Adobe Flex PopUpManager -- multiple instances of a TitleWindow opened

Setup: My Flex application is one consisting of several "subapps". Basically, the main application area is an ApplicationControlBar with buttons for each of the subapps. The rest of the area is a canvas where the subapps are displayed. Only one subapp is visible at a time. When switching between subapps, we do a canvas.removeAllChildren(), then canvas.addChild(subAppSwitchedTo). It's essentially a manual implementation of a ViewStack (the pros and cons of which are not the topic of this, so refrain from commenting on this).
Problem: In one of my subapps (let's say subapp "A"), I have a search function where results are displayed in a TitleWindow that gets popped up. Workflow is like enter search criteria, click search button, TitleWindow pops up with results (multiple selection datagrid), choose desired result(s), click OK, popup goes away (PopUpManager.removePopUp), and continue working. This all works fine. The problem is if I switch to a different subapp (say "B" -- where A gets removeAllChildren()'d and B gets added), then switch back to A and search again, when the results TitleWindow pops open, there will be TWO stacked on top of each other. If I continue to navigate away and back to A, every time I search, there will be an additional popup in the "stack" of popups (one for each time A gets addChild()'d).
Has anyone else experienced this? I'm not sure what to do about it and it's causing a serious usability bug in my application. Does this ring any bells to anyone? It's like I somehow need to flush the PopUpManager or something (even though I'm correctly calling removePopUp() to remove the TitleWindow). Please help!
EDIT
Flex SDK = 4.5.1
// Subapp "A"
if (!certificateSearchTitleWindow)
{
certificateSearchTitleWindow = new CertificateSearchTitleWindow;
certificateSearchTitleWindow.addEventListener("searchAccept", searchOKPopupHandler);
certificateSearchTitleWindow.addEventListener("searchCancel", searchClosePopupHandler);
}
PopUpManager.addPopUp(certificateSearchTitleWindow, this, true);
My guess is that the popup is removed from the main display list when you remove its parent (this in the PopUpManager.addPopup() method), but not from its parent display list. Why don't you listen, in your subapps, to the Event.REMOVED event, and then remove your popup ? That would be :
private var pp:CertificateSearchTitleWindow;
private function onCreationComplete():void
{
addEventListener(Event.REMOVED, onRemovede);
}
private function addPopUp():void
{
if (!pp) {
pp = new CertificateSearchTitleWindow();
PopUpManager.addPopUp(pp, this, true);
}
}
private function onRemoved(event:Event):void
{
if (pp) {
PopupManager.removePopUp(pp);
pp = null;
}
}
Thank you to those who gave suggestions. It turned out I was re-registering an eventListener over and over.
I am using a singleton to act as "shared memory" between the subapps. I was setting singleton.addEventListener(someType, listener) in subapp A's creationComplete callback. So everytime I navigated back to A, the creationComplete was running and re-adding this listener. After the search, the listener method (that opened the popup) was being called multiple times, i.e., as many times as the event had been added.

How to embed "Share on Facebook" button into Flex application?

I'm trying to duplicate the behaviour of the "Share on Facebook" button from Youtube. Basically, inside a Flex app I'll have a button and when I click it I want a popup that enables me to post something on the wall.
While it is possible to make a call to javascript to open the pop-up I want to be able to set the images and the text of my posting.
Do you know how I could set the images or text as a paramter to the sharer window?
Thank you!
This is fairly straightforward to do. Youtube uses the Facebook API which pops up a new window (Info on Facebook sharer API).
To do this in flex,
Create a button that onClick will call a javascript method, ExternalInterface.call("fbLink", "www.yahoo.com");
In your HTML file (most likely index.template.html) add the JavaScript method, fbLink which does the following:
function fbLink(url) {
window.popup("http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=" + url, {height:440, width:620, scrollbars:true})
}
Now when a user clicks on the button they will be sharing the link "yahoo.com" with facebook account.
as I understood you asking for some help in accessing js popup in html page of facebook share button, so you should use ExternalInterface in this casa and access needed DOM node using getElementById function in your js interface.
In other case I want propose you to read another one way http://www.riaxe.com/blog/flex/publish-into-facebook-wall-from-flex/
It seems that you want to have a button on the flash application and once clicked it opens the facebook page that shares the video/image that pertains to the clicked button. What you want to do is simply create a button that on click opens a new website to facebook using their share api which has the following format:
var facebookShare:String = "http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=' + encodedVideoLink + '&t='+ encodedVideoText";
Where the u parameter stands for the link that you wish to share, and the t parameter stands for the title of the piece that you want to share, whether it be a picture or video.
You want to add an event listener on MouseEvent.CLICK that has as its callback function a method that handles the opening of the facebook page passing the facebookShare variable as shown above. To open another page on your browser you can use this AS3 Class called URLNavigator: http://www.danishmetal.dk/project/source/com/zorked/URLNavigator.as
To sum it up, something along these lines would do:
var facebookShare:String = "http://www.facebook.com/share.php?u=' + encodedVideoLink + '&t='+ encodedVideoText";
facebookButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, this._goToUrl(facebookShare));
private function _goToUrl(link:String):Function {
var window:String = "_blank",
feats = "",
thisOverlay:Object = this; // to not lose scope when returning a func
return function (e:MouseEvent):void {
trace("Opening link to:"+link);
try { URLNavigator.ChangePage(link, window, feats); }
catch (e:Error) { trace("error launching "+link+" in "+window+" with feature set "+feats); }
}
}
I hope that helps. If you have questions regarding the code please let me know.

Creating a Pop up and setting its view state before it displays

I am a beginner developer in Flex, and I have been using viewstates lately. I had a couple of custom popup titlewindow components that are initialized using:
PopUpManager.createPopUp(this, ContentCreate, true);
They both contain view states already, and are very similar so I wanted to combione them into one popup titlewindow and change view state on initialisation of the popup to either the Create version of the popup or the Update.
I thought I was being smart haha, but I realized soon after refactoring my code that, I as far as I know I can't pass parameters to the popup to indicate which state I want, if it is created using the PopUpManager.
Does anyone know how to pass parameters to the PopupManager, or create the ContentCreate component(TitleWindow) in mxml or code so I can specify the view state?
When you create a pop up window using the createPopUp method a reference to the created window is returned.
Example:
pop = mx.managers.PopUpManager.createPopUp(this, TitleWindow, false);
You can create a public setState function to tell the new popup window which state to display.
pop = mx.managers.PopUpManager.createPopUp(this, TitleWindow, false);
pop.setDisplay('Update');
Your example would be more like:
var pop:ContentCreate;
pop = PopUpManager.createPopUp(this, ContentCreate, true) as ContentCreate;
pop.setState('Update');
This should work.
More information can be found here.
Hope this helps.

Can Anyone Help me with this? Refresh update panel partially onclient side

i have a dynamically created gridview button that fires off a modal popup when clicked. I do this onclientside like so:
function openModal(btnId, v) {
deptdata(v);
// __doPostBack('<%=DropDownList1.ClientID %>', '');
btn = document.getElementById(btnId);
btn.click();
}
function deptdata(v) {
document.getElementById('<%=vendor.ClientID%>').value = v;
}
This is how the function is called in the code.
btnedit.OnClientClick = String.Format("openModal('{0}','" & GridView1.Rows(i).Cells(0).Text & "');return false;", hidden.ClientID)
I set the value of a hidden field(Vendor) but I need that value for what's in the modal popup. I have a dropdown list that depends on that newly set variable. The variable is set depending on what row was clicked. So i need to somehow just reload that popup. I have an Update Panel but I can't get that Panel to reload. I've tried __doPostback and it didn't help. any ideas how to update the panel or the dropdown in the panel using javascript?
It's not very clear from your description and the limited code you provide what it is exactly that you are trying to do and what is failing. However, the following might give you some ideas. If you provide more detail and code someone might be able to give you a better answer.
ScriptManager1.RegisterAsyncPostBackControl(Button1);
to trigger an update panel post back from js make sure you use UniqueID, not ClientID, thats a common gotcha that prevents the async postback from working.
__doPostBack("<%=Button1.UniqueID %>", "");
Personally, I have all but given up on UpdatePanels, I only use them in the most trivial cases. I prefer to have my js call an ASP.Net JSON webservice and have the on completed function render any needed changes to the html. It's more flexible, lighter and infinitely faster for pages with large grids or a lot of controls.
