414 Request URI Too Large Error Google Maps v3 - google-maps-api-3

This error seems to occur when I call the constructor for creating a new KmlLayer with over 15 different KMZ files. The constructor call is:
var layer = new google.maps.KmlLayer('http...');
I can replicate this error every time with 15 different KMZ files. I have tried reducing sizes of the files, but it doesn't seem to matter. Once you go for the 16th request to display a polygon from the KMZ, all the requests will fail stating 414 Request URI Too Large. Once this error happens, none of the polygons will show unless you go back to 15 or under.
I tried to render all 15 KMZ files into a single KMZ, then display that, but now my requests amount has gone from roughly 100 to about 350...
Does anyone have a work around for this?


414 Request URI Too Large means that the URL you are using (e.g., http://www.example.com/kmlFile.kml?option1=true&option2=false) is too long, not that the file is too big. You'll need to shorten the URL somehow.

Draw Google static map image

I am using google static map API for draw google maps image in my Angularjs Application.

Its working fine for low number of map coordinate. But if have large number of map coordinate then it is not drawing map image.
for e.g. following will draw image for low number of coordinate but if i increase that size then it will not draw.

You should check the response header to figure out what is wrong with your static maps request.
The Google Static Maps API may issue an error or warning when something goes wrong. You should check for warnings in particular if you notice that something is missing from the map. It's also a good idea to check for warnings before launching a new application. Note that the warnings may not be immediately apparent because they appear in the HTTP header.

The X-Staticmap-API-Warning header will contain explanation about error or warning. As I can see in the documentation there are certain limits for the number of geocoded locations or the number of polyline vertices (15). This is documented in

I hope this information might help to troubleshoot your issue.
UPDATE
Static Maps URL from your example is too long. It contains 16187 symbols. The Static Maps API restricts a maximum length of the URL to 8192 characters. The sample URL gets an error
If you need so long path you should implement encoded polyline calculation as described in
https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/utilities/polylinealgorithm
and apply it in your URL.
I created a simple JavaScript code that converts your coordinates to encoded polyline. You can see it on https://jsfiddle.net/xomena/tqv2zsq0/. The encoded polyline has 3064 characters that is within allowed limit.
Now you can use it in the URL as shown in this code snippet (run it to see result)

There is still a warning message and you can check it in browser network console as I explained in the first part of my answer.
So the warning says
x-staticmap-api-warning: Failed to fetch image url http://192.168.1.194/public/images/g-pin-icon.png
Google cannot fetch your custom icon, because it is not available publicly, the 192.168.1.194 is your internal IP address. You have to publish your icons on publicly available hosts in order to avoid this warning messsage.

Google Analytics Add-on limitaions

I would like to get some data from GA via spreadsheet add-on as I did a few weeks ago (I gathered ~200 000 rows). I am using same metrics, dimensions and rest of the settings but I am still getting this error :

I found that I will get some data when I do not set up "max-results", but the default is set up on 1000 which is not enough for my needs. Why?
What I have tried to solve this problem and it doesn’t work:
change GA views
change dimensions and metrics
change time range
create new spreadsheet
set up sharing settings of spreadsheet to "public on web"
I found the link regarding limits and quotas on API (https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/config/mgmt/v3/limits-quotas#) and I should pass only through 50 000 requests per project, which I actually exceed on the first run, so another question how is it even possible to get more data than I suppose to get?
Should I really order more request or does "request" mean anything else than "one row"? Second why or what?
There is no any interpretation for the error.

In short: while one could only guess what causes your problem it's most certainly not the API limit. Rows and requests are not at all the same, every request may fetch up to 10,000 rows.
"Request" is a call to the API, which might include one or many rows of data (unless your script somehow only requests one row at a time, which would be unusual).
If you exceeded your API quota the error message would say pretty much that.
The default is 1000 rows because that's a sensible default (compromise between convenience and performance). The API will return max 10,000 rows per request. To fetch 200 000 results the Add-on would have to do 20 requests, not 50 000.
Also a Google spreadsheet support 2mio cells at max, this might be exceeded by your result set.
"Service error" is a very unspecific error message which can be caused by a variety of causes from out-of-bound ranges to script timeouts or network latency. Sometimes the spreadsheet service dumps an additional error message in the browser console, so you should check your developer tools.

Is there a size limit for an encoded path to the google static map API?

I've got an application that draws a map using a set of LatLng points to create a polyline. I want to generate a static map of this path using the Google Static Map API and passed the result of the polyline's getPath() method to google.maps.geometry.encoding.encodePath to generate the encoded path. When I pass this to: https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/staticmap?size=400x400&path=weight:3%7Ccolor:orange%7Cenc:polyline_data where "polyline_data" represents the encoded line I get a status of "400 (Bad Request)"
When I cut the number of points down so I only pass in every 20th point the encoded path renders a static map correctly. My polyline is comprised of about 6000 points and when cut down to about 300 it renders cleanly.
I understand the resolution of the points I started with is to fine grained but have not been able to find what the actual limit is for the number of LatLng points passed to the encodePath method such that this encoded string can be passed to the google static map API. Can someone help point me at the specified limits? Thank you.

Additionally, URLs are limited to 8192 characters for all web services. For most services, this character limit will seldom be approached. However, note that certain services have several parameters that may result in long URLs.

Google Places API bounds in http request

Is it possible to limit the search area for Google Places in an http request? The website mentions bounds are possible (using SW and NE lat and long for the corners) for the javascript method but I would like to stick to the http request because I know nothing about javascript. Any help would be really appreciated because I am struggling with this. Thank you!

So, your http request should be something similar to this:
https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/place/nearbysearch/output?parameters
There are a required set of parameters, including the radius parameter (unless rankby=distance is set) that need to be used with the places api. The radius parameter is what you are looking for, the maximum allowed value is 50,000. The units are in meters, so the maximum distance would be 50km.
An example http api call would look something like this:
https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/place/nearbysearch/json?location=-33.8670522,151.1957362&radius=500&types=food&name=harbour&sensor=false&key=AddYourOwnKeyHere
This will output the requested places of type 'food' within a 500m radius of a point in Sydney, Australia, containing the word 'harbour' in their name. The data will be returned in the Json format. You may be working with XML data instead of Json, if that's the case then just replace json with xml in the http request.

Issues with KML Layers limit

I have loaded 6 kml layers via url to my website to be toggled off/on by checkboxes. I have recently notice though, that it will only allow me to show 4 kml's at a given time. When I select more than 4 the 5th and 6th does not show. It does not matter what ones I choose, it seems to limit me to only showing 4. Can someone direct me on what may be causing this or should I be coding this some other way? The kml's by themselves do work and are under 800kb. Is just seems very weird that I can only have 4 kml showing at a given time.

If you check the KML Support page, which lists the level of KML support provided for Google Maps and Google Maps for mobile, it lists the following size and complexity restrictions:
Maximum fetched file size (raw KML, raw GeoRSS, or compressed KMZ): 3MB
Maximum uncompressed KML file size: 10MB
Maximum number of Network Links: 10
Maximum number of total document-wide features: 1,000
Given that you estimate your file size at ~800K, that would put you right around 3.2 MB for four of your files. Without knowing more about your KML content, it seems to make sense that the limit would gate you after loading four.

This answer is quite old. I have found a great library to load large KML/KMZ files (even if Google is throwing an error). Please note that the library is quite old and have not received any update.

Step 1: Download and include geoxml3.js script
