Just recently upgraded to Visual Studio 2010 SP1 and ASP.NET MVC3, but the only way I'm aware of using IIS with new projects is to set this up manually after the project is created.
Is it possible to click a checkbox somewhere to make IIS Express the default development server for all of my VS web applications?
In VS Studio go to options and in Project and Solutions select Web Projects. Then check the only checkbox available in settings: Use IIS Express for new file-based web sites and projects.

I have been able to run ASP.NET core applications with Visual Studio 2017. Visual Studio has the integration of IIS Express and ASP.NET core all setup and it works with F5.
I would like to get this same functionality in VS Code. I have found and tried the IIS extensions for VS code. They serve the files without launching the dotnet.exe process.
How can I configure my VS Code project to provide similar run/debug functionality as Visual Studio 2017?
There is an extension available in visual studio market place which can be used to configure and host web applications in IIS Express from VS Code.
Check it our here.

I am using Visual Studio 2012. I have been developing on a legacy web site that uses .NET 2.0. It is configured on my local machine using IIS with an application pool set for .NET 2.0. I am able to open this web site from Visual Studio using File-Open-Web Site....no problem. This is a web site, not a compiled web application.
I just changed my application pool to .NET 4.0. My web site runs fine.
However, when I select File-Open-Web Site in Visual Studio, I get an error that says:
The site "...." is currently configured for use with a newer version of ASP.NET (4.0). This project is targeting ASP.NET 2.0; if not configured some features with the tool may not render correctly. Would you like the site to be configured for user with ASP.NET 2.0?
I can click "No" and attach to and debug the application no problem.
I have no SLN, SUO, CSPROJ, or USER files anywhere in the web site or in My Documents. I have deleted the contents of my web.config file so that it is empty. I still continue to get this message every time I open the web site.
Where is this message coming from?
Why does Visual Studio think that the web site is configured for .NET 2.0?
This is something local to my machine.
Other developers in the company have upgraded their application pool to 4.0 and do not see this message when opening the web site from Visual Studio.
While you may have upgraded your solution to be opened by Visual Studio 2012, you haven't changed the targeted .NET runtime.
To target something other then the .NET 2.0 runtime you need to change the target in the project properties.
See the following for a complete explanation.
I want to deploy a Website which i have created using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition onto a server having Microsoft Windows Server 2008.
I dont know anything about deployment. I want to know what are the things required on the Server in order to make the application work.
i had used ajax toolkit VS2008 Express Edition and mysql on my developer machine.
Do you have full access to the server or are you using a hosting provider?
When you say Website, do you mean your project is a Website project or is it a Web Application project?
If it's a website project you should use the WebDeploy project add-in. In fact you'll need this since the Web Deploy project will merge all your pages into one dll. I'm not sure of the limitation of the Express Edition no you'll need to check.

I would like to create some test web applications with Visual Studio 2010 Express.
I installed Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express, but I can't choose the "ASP.NET MVC 2" type of project web application.
What should I install if I want to create a web ASP.NET MVC 2 application?
I am using Visual Web Developer 2010 Express and I see it. The following is what I do:
File > New Project
Then under the Web template you will find ASP.Net MVC 2 Web Application
You will NOT find it under File > Web Site, which I am assuming you might be looking at.
That's a separate (free) install. See here.
Install link is top-right on the page.
It's necessary to install Visual Web Developer 2010 Express.
I need to create a ASp.net website with silverlight controls.
I am having only express editions of 2008 (Web developer edition and C# express editions).
I have created the WPF application sing C# expression and create the new XAML files.
Then I have created asp.net website in web developer edition and linked the xaml files with the .
But nothing works.
Note: I have not silverlight application project types and templates in Visual Studio 2008 web developer edition.
I think you need to install the Service pack 1
If you have Visual Web Developer, and if you are not getting template to create silverlight, then probably you need to install Silverlight add on from this link
