Is it possible to run Google NaCl outside of the browser as a process sandbox?
Yes. The standalone build of Native Client contains a program called "sel_ldr" which runs the NaCl sandbox outside of the web browser. A lot of NaCl's test suite tests NaCl by running programs under sel_ldr rather than under the browser.
The Native Client documentation is probably a good starting point for trying to figure out how everything works.
As Mark Seaborn and Bennet Yee indicate, you are probably best off looking into using sel_ldr. More details about how sel_ldr is included in "The life of sel_ldr".
I haven't personally implemented anything that uses NaCl outside of a browser, so I can't unfortunately comment on the ease of doing so.
To add to Mark's answer, take a look at the sel_universal target. There are obviously some interfaces that cannot be supported, e.g., Pepper interfaces, since such a stand-alone run doesn't involve a browser. Furthermore, the stable ABI that we support is that which is exposed by the "integrated runtime" or irt, and the irt code thunk assumes that the browser is present. a standalone use of NaCl via sel_ldr would probably have to use the syscall interface initially, until an alternate irt is written. (NB: we make no guarantees about the stability of the syscall interface.)
You can try run.py which included in Native Client's source.
Here is an example that runs a hello world program.

This script can build, search and invoke sel_ldr, and pass proper arguments to it automatically.

I have a GUI application which contains a websocket server QWebSocketServer. I also have a python script which sends messages and the application processes them. Everything works well. During testing I wanted to run the application in headless mode using -platform offscreen command line argument added to the app executable name (I changed nothing else). But the problem is that when the application runs off-screen, the client script cannot establish connection with the web socket server. I tested this on localhost only. I do not understand how this two things, visibility of GUI and websockets, can interfere. Any ideas what could go wrong?
Note: I am using Qt 5.11.1 64-bit with VS 2017 on Windows 10 Pro.
A platform plugin is a bit more than merely "GUI". The -platform option selects a family of platform-specific plugins. Perhaps some plugins that make networking work are absent on that platform spec. That's very likely, since the offscreen platform is only a proof-of-concept: it's to show how you'd write a platform plugin. It's example code, and it does the bare minimum needed. It's nothing that you should be using for production without fully understanding what's there and how it works - it wasn't not meant for it, at least not the last time I looked at it. It shouldn't be hard to make it work, but you'd need to clone the source and start hacking on it.

I cant use a linux box and HtmlUnitDriver is not helping as our webapp has many ajax controls.

At this point there is no headless version that I am aware of the Firefox or IE. Since Firefox is open source it's possible that you could get the source code for that browser and then remove the UI portion but there are a few problems with it that I can see. First you have to build a custom app to setup your own load testing engine. Second you are locked to one web render, though I think chrome is open source as well but it doesn't play as nicely as Firefox or IE (using the system .dlls vs. a custom executable). Third without a lot of testing I am sure there will be stability issues and potentially other unforseen issues with this option. That being said there is a .net headless browser that's fairly simple and would probably be decent for load testing called simple browser. However it depends on what you are wanting to load. If you just looking for bandwidth and server load then you should be find using multiple instances of the browser. I would be curious to know if using the headless browser in this fashion if you instantiated different WebDriver if it would play nicely. i.e.

and then you could run [n] parallel tests. Also of note in the above code SimpleBrowser() doesn't hook directly to the WebDriver interface you would have to Extend the interface to reference that .dll
Start the test program as a Windows service and the browsers will run just fine, even on a machine with no monitors. Technically speaking, they're running in a "session" that is disconnected, but it's essentially what you mean by "headless".
HtmlUnitDriver does support ajax, and can run in both java and c# (if ported via IKVM).
There is, however, no way to run IE and FF in headless mode. I can't tell you how many times I've wished for that...
We are using RDI (IBM Rational Developer for System i) to do cobol development work, we are eager to write automation test cases for our program, to make the testing work easier. But we don't know how to use script to compile and run cobol, which on i-series server.
For now, our solution is that we use scripts prepare test data (insert data to database/files),and then run cobol on RDI manually, finally, run scripts to check the results. It makes our work easier, but still not real automation test.
So, I want to know if there are some methods to invoke the compile&run process according to scripts, such eclipse headless or telnet technologies.
We've already found the solution: use telnet to compile/run program. Because green screen is one kind of telnet, it reliable.
I have a host application and I have written a plug-in. I compile my plug-in down to a shared object (say foo.so), and the host application will load it via dlopen. In this case, my host application is the opt tool from llvm (though I don't think that's important to the question).
I'd like to compile my plug-in with profiling enabled (i.e. g++ -pg, gprof). However, when I do this, the profile output file gmon.out is never created. Maybe gprof expects someone to call a setup routine, or something like that.
For various reasons, I would like to avoid recompiling the host app with -pg. I am curious if it is possible to profile a shared object foo.so without profiling the host application opt.
I've also looked into other profiling tools; qprof from HP should be able to handle this situation, but it is unable to resolve the names of functions in the shared object (it falls back to addr2line in a very naive way).

I assume the reason you want to do this is to find ways to optimize the plugin (as opposed to just getting timing information).
Can you run the host app under a debugger or IDE? Does the IDE have a pause button, or can you interrupt it with Ctrl-C or some such key?
Then you can quickly find the costly code by using this technique. Only take samples when your plugin is running, or if you can't do that, just ignore samples that don't end in your plugin.
Even if you get gprof to work, or a similar profiler, you're likely to be disappointed.
We are in the process of implementing automated regression testing for our applications, and are looking for a solid batch-testing utility. We have QuickTest Professional 10.0, and it comes bundled with 'Test Batch Runner' which appears to be deprecated. It appears in previous versions there was 'Multi-Test Manager', which has been discontinued as well.
What alternatives exist, if any?
The canonical way to do this is via Quality Center, if you don't have QC you can use QTP's automation model from a vbs file. The documentation for this is available in Start -> Programs -> QuickTest Professional -> Documentation -> Automation Object Model Reference
QTP 10 works excellent with Multi Test Manager V8.2.4.
We use it for our project (previously used it with QTP 9.2).
Try google for an installation (of you don't have one), it should be free but just not supported by HP anymore.
From WinRunner times I very extensively used Test Driver scripts with great success due to the following benefits:
non-programming testers can easily create/maintain batches as their stored in XML format
test input files are externally configurable through mapping
a variety of customization parameters supported, from login credentials to prefixes and switches
test dependencies could be established so that if critical test cases is failed the whole branch of dependant test cases is skipped.
Now I continue using Test Drivers and introducing them to clients.
And Test Driver approach was integrated not only by the client companies that do not use Quality Center. Some others followed it because it gives much more flexibility and robustness in automated test plan execution.
