Regular Expression in ASP.NET for alpahnumeric characters - asp.net

I cannot manage to get a working regular expression (for use in ASP.NET Validataor) for the following criteria:
I want all chars from A-Z a-z 0-9
I don't want the Enter key
I have the expression: [\w\s,.-/]*[^\n] but that doesn't work.
Can anyone give me a hint?

This will match only characters that you're requiring:
[A-Za-z0-9]+

Asp.net RegEx Validation

I need to use an asp:RegularExpressionValidator control in my asp.net site and I want to restrict the characters to digits and semi-colon only.
So it needs to be able to take any amount of digits and ;
Valid values:
123
123;456
123;456;789;....
What is the regex for that?
Try this simple regex: [0-9;]+ or [\d;]+
\d match a digit [0-9]
; the literal character ;
+ means that it match between one character and unlimited times, as many times as possible,
If you want to guarantee that at least numbers are present in your expression you could do this too:
#npinti has a valid point better will be: ^[\d;]+$
where ^ indicates the begging of your expression and $ the end of it.

Regular Expression Validator for Letters and Numbers only

What is the Regular Expression Validator for only Letters and Numbers in asp.net?
I need to enter only 0-9,a-z and A-Z. I don't want to allow any special characters single or double quotes etc. I am using asp.net 3.5 framework.
I tried ^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$ and ^[a-zA-Z0-9]*$. They are not working.
Any help will be appreciated.
Try the following.
^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$
go to this example and also alphanumerics for more
then try this
^[a-zA-Z0-9]*$
If length restriction is necessary use
^[a-zA-Z0-9]{0,50}$
This will match alphanumeric strings of 0 to 50 chars.

You can define a regular expression as follows,
Regex myRegularExpression = new Regex(" \b^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$\b");
be sure to include System.Text.RegularExpression
and then use the Regex to match it with your user-control as follows,
eg : if your user-control is a textbox
myRegularExpression.isMatch(myTextBox.Text);
Dear English speaking people. With all due respect. A-Z are not the only letters in the world. Please use \w instead of [A-Za-z0-9] if you support other languages in your apps

Regular Expression for username and password?

I am trying to use a regular expression for name field in the asp.net application.
Conditions:name should be minimum 6 characters ?
I tried the following
"^(?=.*\d).{6}$"
I m completely new to the regex.Can any one suggest me what must be the regex for such condition ?
You could use this to match any alphanumeric character in length of 6 or more: ^[a-zA-Z0-9]{6,}$. You can tweak it to allow other characters or go the other route and just put in exclusions. The Regex Coach is a great environment for testing/playing with regular expressions (I wrote a blog post with some links to other tools too).
Look at Expression library and choose user name and/or password regex for you. You can also test your regex in online regex testers like RegexPlanet.
My regex suggestions are:
^[a-zA-Z][a-zA-Z0-9._\-]{5,}$
This regex accepts user names with minimum 6 characters, starting with a letter and containing only letters, numbers and ".","-","_" characters.
Next one:
^[a-zA-Z0-9._\\-]{6,}$
Similar to above, but accepts ".", "-", "_" and 0-9 to be first characters too.
If you want to validate only string length (minimum 6 characters), this simple regex below will be enough:
^.{6,}$
What about
^.{6,}$
What's all the stuff at the start of yours, and did you want to limit yourself to digits?
NRegex is a nice site for testing out regexes.
To just match 6 characters, ".{6}" is enough
In its simplest form, you can use the following:
.{6,}
This will match on 6 or more characters and fail on anything less. This will accept ANY character - unicode, ascii, whatever you are running through. If you have more requirements (i.e. only the latin alphabet, must contain a number, etc), the regex would obviously have to change.

regular validation expression in asp.net

i have got a code to edit some function. There is a text box in that web application. It using a regular expression validator control to validate the text box. the validation expression is
ValidationExpression="[\w]{3,15}"
it accept all letters,numbers and underscores. but it do not accept special characters like \,/ * . i want to change the above regular expression to accept / .
i hope someone can explain what the above regular expression means and how to change that expression to accept / without affecting current regular expression

string ValidationExpression= "[\w/]{3,15}"
[...] match a single character presents in the list between brackets
[...]{3,15} match between 3 and 15 characters presents between brackets
\w match a word character (letter, digit, underscore...)
/ match the character /
So [\w/]{3,15} match a word character or '/' between 3 and 15 times.
You current regular expression can be deconstructed as follows :
[] brackets represents regular expression group. Regex engine will try to match all the characters or group of characters given inside [] with the input string.
\w - Allow all the alpha numberic characters which includes upper case and lower case alphabets and 0 to 9 numbers and and underscore (This does not include other special characters like / or # ,etc ).
{3,15} means minimum 3 and maximum 15 alphanumeric characters must be provided in order to successfully match the string.
To add other charters, you need to add them explicitly. If you want to add / your regex should be like [\w/]{3,15}.

To allow anything other than whitespace ^\S{6,}$
To allow only alphabets: ^[a-zA-Z]{6,}$
To allow word chars (alphanumeric and _): ^\w{6,}$
