I am trying to get a tutorial or step by step instructions on how to connect MS Project 2010 to MS Project Server 2010.
I have installed Server 2008 R2 (64 bit), Sharepoint 2010, and Project 2010 on my server and created a new site using the project 2010 template.
I am now trying to connect my stand alone Project 2010 to that site for updates and such.
I tried the File->Info->Manage accounts option and it comes up with "Could not retrieve server initialization data."
I cannot find a step by step tutorial to set it up or to trouble shoot the error message.
Any hints or good resources would be much appreciated.
make sure you use the http:///pwa as your account URL
Also, make sure you add your users under Server Settings --> Manage Users in the PWA site, you can't just add them via SITE PERMISSIONS.
You missed one important step: creating a PWA (project web application).
After you install sharepoint and project server you must build a pwa and then enter this address to project. Here is a very good and complete guide for creating and setiing up PWA:
Create a PWA site (Project Server 2010)
Deploy Project Server 2010 to a test environment

I am trying to connect my Microsoft Project Professional 2013 with Microsoft Project Server 2013 but following error keeps popping up.
Unfortunately I can't tell you why exactly you are getting that error, but I can give you some tips on troubleshooting:
Make sure you can connect and do have permissions to the PWA site. From that same machine, can you browse to it in the web browser and view/create projects?
Assuming #1 looks good, you can use a tool like Fiddler to inspect the web requests that Project client is making to the server. Look at the responses coming back from the web server - does it yield any clues (error codes perhaps) as to what is wrong?
Maybe you can edit your question to add whatever information you find?
Presuming your URL is correct (including http vs. https) the issue is most like related to permissions.
The solution will depend on your security configurations for the Project Server environment. If your Project Server 2013 environment is in Project Permission Mode, then the Global permissions for at least one your role(s) must have the following global permission selected:
Log on to Project Server from Project Professional
"Allows a user to load the Enterprise Global Template when he or she connects Project Professional to Project Server. Grant this permission to all users in your organization who will be using Project Professional to connect to Project Server."
If your Project Server Permissions are in SharePoint mode, the user must be a member of one of these groups:
Administrators
Portfolio Managers
Project Managers
Resource Managers

I'm currently trying to connect to a web server using Visual Studio 2010 (as I need to code several pages using ASP.NET) and have no idea how to. I've managed to connect to the SQL database to set up the tables but cannot actually see the files on the web server (under the Visual Studio 2010 IDE) so that I can work with both asp files on the web server and database.
So far I've managed to connect to the web server using WinSCP (following the instructions here via a VPN) but I cannot seem to connect to the same web server under Visual Studio 2010.
The server owner has provided information here but none of it seems to make any sense to me. Can anyone suggest some good tutorials? I'd really appreciate a helping hand.
I've signed up for a test account on Windows Azure to test it out. I build a Hello world ASP.NET web application + database just for testing.
I installed Visual Studio 2012 RC and installed the Windows Azure software.
In Windows Azure I've created a new Website e+ Database, I think that is running fine (http://azuretest.azurewebsites.net)
I downloaded the Publish profile from Windows Azure and import it in Visual Studio. When I publish the website I select to publish the database, select the right connection string (from the publish profile).
After publishing I get this error:
Error 1 Web deployment task failed. (Could not complete an operation
with the specified provider ("dbSqlPackage") when connecting using the
Web Management Service. This can occur if the server administrator has
not authorized the user for this operation. dbSqlPackage

The url's in this error message links to articles from 2008 and 2010. I don't think that I can find any good info there..
The error says
This can occur if the server administrator has not authorized the user
for this operation
but I don't think I can authorize anything on a shared Windows Azure Website, can I?
I just answered this at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsazurewebsitespreview/thread/3f99e1e3-e030-47e0-9e43-f029663ca806.
Hi Marcel, I work on the Visual Studio Web team. When we released VS 2012 RC we had the hopes that we would be able to finalize the server side components of the Update Database checkbox by the time that the RC went out. Unfortunately we were not able to do that, so the Update Database checkbox in VS 2012 RC only works if you are publshing to localhost.
We are working to get the server side pieces ready but we cannot commit to a schedule yet. I've blogged about this at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/webdevtools/archive/2012/06/14/vs-publish-dialog-update-database-dialog-disabled.aspx.
I'm now leasing my own server from 1and1. Can I take the Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate -- which I paid like 1100 bucks for -- and move it to the server?
Is it even necessary? I don't know how ws_ftp will work ... I've never had my own server. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Typically, you use Visual Studio to develop on your local machine, then publish your web app and run the compiled code on IIS on your web server (ie on 1and1).
To publish your app, select the web project and click Build -> Publish. Then, FTP the files to your web server. You will need to configure IIS accordingly. There's loads of info out there for that. A few googles will sort you out.
I want to deploy a Website which i have created using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Express Edition onto a remote server having Microsoft Windows Server 2008.
I don't know anything about deployment. I want to know what are the things required on the Server in order to make the website work for all the client machines.
i had used ajax toolkit, VisualStudio2008 Express Edition and mysql on my developer machine.
One method which i tried is using copy website,it dint work, may be because i don't know the proper way to do it.
Please help me to deploy my ASP.net website.
The first step to setup your website on Windows Server 2008. Is to setup IIS. Installing IIS7 on Windows Server 2008.
Once that's completed, setup your SQL server on either that machine or a different one.
Depending on your setup. Copy your website files to your web site directory. By default it's [Drive]:\inetpub\wwwroot. You can change the target by virtual directories.
One note, you will need to install AJAX on your server for it to run correctly.
