Notification to the end users about a newer version - qt

I am having an application that will be installed on various machines. Now if i have a newer version than the installed one, i need to inform the users that an update is available. An update that shows up in Mozilla Firefox about a newer version, similar to that. Is this possible to implement?? Or how those Firefox guys implementing that feature? My application has been implemented using Qt 4.4. But i guess this doesn't conform to a specific programming language. I have virtually no idea about implementing this so any ideas regarding this are welcome.

you need a web site page, like http://yourapp.com/version
and place version number in this page.
each time your app runs, check this page(quietly),
if found version > current version, then open a confirm window.

Your app utilizes a version of Vitamio, a multimedia library used for playing various types of media files, containing a security vulnerability

I developed an app that'll stream a rtmp video. Before I used VitamioBundle-master. I upload my app in play store it shows some warning message for upgrading my app that has to use vitamio latest version. I download it from the link shown in that alert message. Now I develop the app using vitamio 5.0.2 downloaded from the link https://www.vitamio.org/en/Download/. Once I upload the app play store shows the same alert message
Security alert
Your app utilizes a version of Vitamio, a multimedia library used for playing various types of media files, containing a security vulnerability.
Please upgrade your app(s) as soon as possible and increment the version number of the upgraded APK. Beginning 14 March 2016, Google Play will block publishing of any new apps or updates that use pre-5.0 versions of Vitamio.
The vulnerability was addressed in Vitamio v5.0. The latest versions of Vitamio can be downloaded on the Vitamio website. You can confirm your Vitamio version by checking if the SDK includes libs/armeabi-v7a/libvinit.so or libs/armeabi/libvinit.so. If either file is present, the SDK needs to be upgraded. For help upgrading, see the Vitamio support documentation. If you’re using a 3rd party library that bundles Vitamio, please notify the 3rd party and work with them to address this.
To confirm you’ve upgraded correctly, submit the updated version to the Developer Console and check back after five hours. If the app hasn’t been correctly upgraded, we will display a warning.
The vulnerability is due to the Vitamio SDK containing world-writable code. For more information about the vulnerability, please see this NowSecure blog post. For other technical questions, you can post to Stack Overflow and use the tags “android-security” and “vitamio.”
While these specific issues may not affect every app that uses Vitamio, it’s best to stay up to date on all security patches. Apps with vulnerabilities that expose users to risk of compromise may be considered in violation of our Malicious Behavior policy and section 4.4 of the Developer Distribution Agreement.
Apps must also comply with the Developer Distribution Agreement and Developer Program Policies. If you feel we have sent this warning in error, contact our policy support team through the Google Play Developer Help Center.
I gone through several solutions mentioned in different tutorial but not yet get a clear idea. Can anyone tell me the step by step procedure for updating my vitamio sdk version, or else is there any other lib for streaming rtmp video in my Android app?
Unfortunately, Vitamio 5.0.2 added back the old libvinit.so file, so it gets flagged as an old version of Vitamio. You can just delete libvinit.so and it should work.

How do I use HP's UFT with Eclipse's EMF Client Platform?

I have an existing software system in pure Java (1.8, currently 32 bit), using Eclipse's EMF Client Platform. Some modules are opened in normal web browsers like IE, Chrome etc. while others are loaded into an Eclipse client as Eclipse plugins. We're using Eclipse Mars.
We're looking to automate our testing with HP's UFT, so we're trying it out for the first time with a freshly downloaded trial version. We easily figured out how to use UFT with modules that are opened in a web browser from a tutorial I found online.
However, we're unable to say the same for the part of the system opened in the Eclipse client. My PM did a little preliminary research and some say there are compatibility issues. Right now I'm investigating this in-depth with the objective to get it working if possible. I Google'd with the terms UFT, Eclipse plugin, and/or EMF Client Platform without useful result.
As someone using this tool for the first time, I'm looking for help from those with experience in the community. Do you know any tutorial, documentation, any material that can assist me, whether to solve the problem outright or at least to help me understand the relevant parts of the UFT tool?
I understand LeanFT is installed with UFT, so I am open to using it as an alternative. Thanks!

how is Wunderlist source code protected?

I am trying to build a simple app using tidesdk , but unfortunately as stated here :
https://stackoverflow.com/a/14207566/1724929
that currently there is no way to protect the source code which is visible to the app users.
but after taking a look at wunderlist for Windows which is built using tidesdk and .net framework , i saw that the source code is not visible also i searched if it were hidden somewhere but i found nothing , so any one have an idea how they protect the source code from being visible . is there any tool or something to achive that ?
Latest version of Wunderlist is not built using TideSDK. They have re-implemented all different versions pure natively on each platform they are supporting.
TideSDK currently does not support Code hiding however the Developers of TideSDK are developing TideKit which is releasing soon with a new CLI, app and will provide platform builds. It will also provide Code Hiding. You can follow recent developments at http://www.tidekit.com. The video of what is coming is here: http://youtu.be/aE7gN-d0GhU. This will give you modern tools to use where the experience of creating and your projects is much better.

Flash Player Version Problem

I am facing one weird problem. In my flex application, there is one
grid on click of each grid item, it will dispatch one event and show
the details. As usual am changing the state of the component to
achieve this. But this is working perfectly in my machine, but from my
client side it is not working. Only difference am seeing is the
difference in flash player version. The FP version am having here is
10,0,45,2 but the onsite is having the latest version : 10.1.102.64.
Will this cause any problem in the behaviour of the flex application?
Am quite confused here, because I have no rights to change the player
version in my machine.
Do anyone have face the same problem like this. Or can anyone help me
with the main difference between these two versions.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers,
Anoop
Most behavioral differences between flex applications are due to different flex SDKs being used during compilation (for instance, is your client viewing the binary-exact copy of the .swf file that you are running) or browsers with different plug-in APIs (the way they handle 500 errors for instance). If you think it's a flash player version issue (they are probably rare since they run regression tests across player builds so that flash swf files from eons ago run fine), you can certainly upgrade to that player build and see for yourself.
Are you also able to rule-out any connectivity issues such as firewalls or proxy servers?
While the item is clicked what are you using you using to get the selected item - event.target.selecteditem or event.currentTaget.selecteditem ? Try to change from target to currentTarget or vice-versa,it might work in both the machines.

Web browser lock-down: How to?

I have an ASP.NET web application where a portion of it needs to run in a web browser as a public facing terminal.
Essentially it is used to capture anonymous user feedback (wizard control on a .aspx) in a commercial location such as a shop.
An administrator will login and prep the application for 'terminal' mode.
The terminal is a normal PC with keyboard and/or mouse like device.
I would like to prevent users from:
Viewing the browser menu's, pushing back button and/or entering a different URI in the URL and also disallow keyboard shortcuts from bypassing the intended looping functionality of the application that is running?
Which browser is best suited for its ability to disable functionality as mentioned? The app runs on IE/FF/Chrome/Opera/Safari.
HOW would one go about configuring the machine and/or browser so it is locked to prevent unauthorized/unintended use?
On a side note, I guess the web application session needs to have an unlimited timeout?
Thanks for your input!
EDITED: I am leaving the question as unanswered for now... I would like to see responses that highlight possible options for the other browsers as well.
You can run Internet Explorer in Kiosk mode.
Please see this MS KB article.
Simply put, start Internet Explorer with the -k argument
There seems to be some commercial products available also, like this.
Try How to use Kiosk Mode in Microsoft Internet Explorer
Also, there are many Kiosk tools to assist in locking down a machine. Example: http://www.thekioskstore.com/index.php/software/kiosk-lock-down
Firefox has at least two plugins (and possibly many more):
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1659
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/509
It is also possible to lock down KDE and GNOME (GNOME at least has a built in tool), which you can also use to lock down the rest of the system. I suggest installing Ubuntu if the web app is running on another system.
If you have to use MS Windows, check out: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/sharedaccess/seeit/internetcafe.mspx.
You can use an opensource Linux distribution designed for this very purpose, http://webconverger.com/
