i have a website of aspx on IIS7 and inside it is one directory which i have created into an application. It is the exact same setup as in another computer. the same code works fine there. it does not open the application here. i get a 403.1 error when i browse application by itself.
what are the palces that i can check that it is going wrong? any ideas?
403.1 is a security error, it is permissions.
HTTP 403.1 Forbidden: Execute Access Forbidden
Make sure the NETWORK SERVICE account has execute permission on that directory.
In the IIS Manager under the application's basic setting you can test your settings.

I am trying to publish an ASP.NET MVC web application locally using IIS server. The files of the application are uploaded but whenever I run the application in the browser (localhost/WebApp), get the following exception:

I've tried to google and tried to follow this link but seems like need some advice to resolve it: (Clearly unable to understand)
Troubleshoot IIS Issue
Do I need to configure anything else in the Web.config file or in the IIS server?
It seems like you don't have Windows Permission to read the Web.config file and I believe, you don't have to change anything in the Web.config file.
In IIS server, add a user IIS_IUSRS using the security tab in the edit permissions sections. It'll allow all the user to access that file. If you ask about the IIS_IUSRS, it means when a web project is run on the IIS server, it associates the application pool with a user like local system, network services. So make sure about it.
I'm getting the above error when I publish my application and move it from development to production server. Below are the error details.

This website used to work previously but recently the published version stopped working due to this error. As far as I can tell, the only change was installing iTextSharp and iTextSharp xmlworker through nuget.
I have tried, without success:
giving modify permission on the site folder to Everyone
checking the web.config file, and using an older version of the web.config file (from when the site worked).
uninstalling iTextSharp and iTextSharp XMLWorker
The project still runs without issue from Visual Studio.
This is solved. The error was caused by the folder name not matching the path for the virtual directory. Oh wow I feel dumb.
Check the applicationhost.config file under - .vs\lpsWeb-UI\config folder of your application root.
Under sites section of the config file check what the physical path points to.
If you modify those you should be able to fix the issue.
This is because of different physical path in the IIS.To change the physical path of application content
You can perform this procedure by using the user interface (UI), by running Appcmd.exe commands in a command-line window, by editing configuration files directly, or by writing WMI scripts.
User Interface
To use the UI
Open IIS Manager. For information about opening IIS Manager, see Open IIS Manager (IIS 7).
In the Connections pane, expand the Sites node and click to select the site in which your application runs.
In the Actions pane, click View Applications.
On the Applications feature page, select an application from the list and then click Basic Settings in the Actions pane.
In the Physical path box, change the path of the application content.
Click OK.
DefaultAppPool application pool runs under the Network Service account. This account is local to the computer and this account does not exist on another computer. Make sure that you configure the DefaultAppPool application pool to use an account that is a domain user. Then, you can use the same account on the WorkmenComp file server. Alternatively, you can create a workgroup account on the WorkmenComp file server.
I am getting this HTTP Error 500.19 error when I am giving physical path as Z:\App_Live in IIS
Instead of using z:\ ,
I used network path \\server\share\live_folder in the IIS physical path – something like this \\server\share\wwwroot\inetpub\wwwroot
Also you may need to specify username/password in "connect as".
On my attempt to access my site from IIS, i am getting following error.

I am not sure what to do. I have already given full control to mycomputerName\ISS_IUSRS for applicationHost file in C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config. Also, I have given full control to mycomputerName\ISS_IUSRS for applicationHost file to my solution folder and web.config file. However, when I click on my application from IIS and attempt to browse it by clicking on manage Application\browse, I am still getting this error.
If anyone could help me, that would greatly be appreciated,
Thanks
This problem mostly occurs when the IIS application don't have the permission to the read the application configuration files. IIS application uses the IIS_IUSRS user to read the Web application.
The IIS_IUSRS user will have default read and execute access for the folder C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ once when you install the IIS. Kindly copy your Web Application folder to the above mentioned directory and give the read access or full control(if the IIS_IUSRS don't have the read and execute permission) for the IIS_IUSRS to your application folder.
I've just wrote a legacy app on IIS 6.0 (.NET 1.0, don't even ask why!). One of the requirements is to have "Integrated Windows Authentication" disabled on the Virtual directory.
http://localhost/test.html
When I disable that, I get a error 401.1 on the IIS root's test.html, which consists of "Hello World"

with different credentials. HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is
denied due to invalid credentials. Internet Information Services (IIS)
When IWM is enabled, the website works like a gem.
Does anyone know what is the root cause? This doesn't appear to be an issue with my app since even the default test.html fails with authentication
You will most likely need to set the correct folder permissions for the 'Anonymous' user on the folder you are accessing.

I have an asp.net mvc 3 app installed on IIS6 and I am getting ACL errors (401.3 errors) when trying to access it. It is running as a virtual app under the default web. I have gone through what I believe are the correct security setting on the respective folders.
I have given the Network Service and in IUSER_ users access to the root folder of the default web. I have also given access to the microsoft.net, temp and system32 folders under c:\windows.
I still get the 401.3 error. When I set the app to use both anonymous and windows authentication I get prompted for credentials. Entering the credentials allows me to access the app. This means that there is some file/folder that needs permissions.
So I used FileMon to see what was going on. I hit the site and get the ACL error but I see no ACCESS DENIED errors in FileMon nor so I see any reference to the site itself. It is like I never made a request. (Yes I cleared my cache).
I am tapped out on what to do next. Any suggestions on where to look to determine what resources needs permissions?
Thanks in advance!
In order for MVC to work on IIS6, you need to do some configuration changes in IIS. Specifically, you should tell IIS to handle all request, in order to ensure that the .NET routing engine kicks in.
