How to get the properties of the Details tab in a file - reflection

You should all have noticed if you right click a file in the windows explorer, there is a tab named Details. Is there any trick to get these properties, and specifically the product name, whether this is a .NET file or not, over C#?

You can use the FileVersionInfo class for that purpose.
FileVersionInfo fvi = FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(fileName);

Accessing custom project flavor property stored in .csproj file

OK, so I've managed to create a custom project flavor with a custom property page. It all works and the values are being saved to the .csproj file like such:

What I cant seem to figure out is how to access this custom property from, say, a menu item callback in my package. I can get the project that the selected item in the solution explorer which was right clicked belongs to, but I'm stuck after that...

OK, I figured it out.
As part of creating a custom project flavor, you inherit from FlavoredProjectBase and implement the IVsProjectFlavorCfgProvider interface.
the IVsProjectFlavorCfgProvider has one implementable method
int CreateProjectFlavorCfg(IVsCfg pBaseProjectCfg, out IVsProjectFlavorCfg ppFlavorCfg)
So here I implemented a static mapping between my custom IVsProjectFlavorCfg and the specified IVsCfg
Already having a EnvDTE.Project reference, I could then use the following to get a IVsCfg reference:

sol.GetProjectOfUniqueName(project.UniqueName, out hierarchy1);

I could then use the IVsCfg reference to look up my custom configuration provider.
If you can access the project node instance (and if your project system is based on MPF), you can just use the GetProjectProperty method of the ProjectNode class. It obtains a ProjectPropertyInstance and returns its evaluated value, or null if the property does not exist.

Visual Studio treat custom extension as CSharp

I've got files with a custom extension .mcsx that are really CSharp files. I want to get code completion on these files in Visual Studio 2012, but these files are treated as plain text when I open them in VS.
I've tried to create a custom MEF extension which allows me to treat the files as having a content-type based on csharp, but I don't get autocompletion or code formatting for these documents. I might need to invoke the custom CSharp classifier for my custom content type, but I'm not sure. Can anyone help?

So inside of VS things are actually a bit different than the editor APIs imply -- we don't actually use content types (for the most part) to determine when to activate. Noah Richards has a great blog post that shows how to create an extension that marks another extension under an existing editor.

How to get the itemxml of a selected item in Tridion

I would like to get and display the itemxml of the selected item from the Tridion CME.
I was able to get the Itemxml from my VM server when i give the tcm id in the browser.
However, i would like to get the same information from Tridion GUI Extension.
I am able to get the selected item tcm id. Is there any way to get the itemxml using coreservice?
or is there any other way to get this?
At the moment there's no way you can get Item XML through core service. Item XML you have seen was provided to you by TCM Protocol handler that might not be there in future versions. If you want to show item XML in CME - take a look at this extention by Yoaw:

Also, keep in mind that not all properties of an item might be exposed in Xml, sometimes you have more info in Data object

You can get the item XML via CoreService, but this will get you the Tridion R6 (2011) Xml format, which is not the same you would see before.

I tend to have a page "GetItemXml.aspx" on my Tcm servers that I then call with a Uri as a parameter, and then this page would return the Item Xml.

Anguilla - Get the version and user information

I have created a command button on the Ribbon Toolbar. When I select an component an click on "Display Info" button, an popup should open telling me about the latest version of the Component, Modified date, and the User who last modified it.
I do get the component with the following code:

When I try to see the JS code in Firebug, I see them in one single line. I am unable to put an break point on the execute function within my code.

To deminify the JS, to allow you to add breakpoints, and also to allow you to use a JS console to inspect objects that are available, you can follow the instructions at http://code.google.com/p/tridion-2011-power-tools/wiki/DeactivateJSMinifier.
User information can be retrieved using the information at How to get the user Id of the currently logged user in Tridion?
I find that the only way to find anything with Anguilla is to use a JS Console like Chrome's.
Once you get the current item - like you do now - you can do stuff like:

var lastEditorId = item.getStaticRevisorId();
getStaticRevisorId() gives you the Tridion URI of the last user to change the item, and you can then load this to retrieve further information from it.

How can I programmatically add build files to Xcode4?

I've been trying to figure out how to programmatically add files to an Xcode4 project and it seemed like AppleScript would be the way to go, however I'm running into "missing value" errors.
Here's the code I've got:

I've tried the commented-out line instead of the add-command as well, but that doesn't work either (I get "missing value").
The 'add' error is:

The "make new reference" does add the file to the list of files in Xcode, but I also need it to be added to the project target so that I can add actions and outlets to the file from Xcode w/o having to first check the checkbox to add it to the "target membership".
I ended up sending this question to the devs on the xcode developer list and the response I got was effectively "you can't".
This appears to be completely broken in Xcode4, but I've seen a project that does it. I think what they are doing is parsing and modifying the "project.pbxproj" file directly. (this file is hidden inside the xcodeproj bundle)
The file is a GUID soup, but once you look at it for a while it seems possible to safely modify it, especially if you are only adding stuff.

There is a poorly documented user defined build setting that can be added. Files can be both excluded and included from compilation
Go to your target's Build Settings > Tap the + button > Add User-Defined Setting
The key is either INCLUDED_SOURCE_FILE_NAMES or EXCLUDED_SOURCE_FILE_NAMES
The value is a space separated list of file paths
