Hello the following code for my signup page does not work. when I execute it, it refreshes and stays in the same page. But it is supposed to redirect to a page called message.aspx. The register command works as follows the person trying to register writes in comboboxs their information and then once they finished, they click the button begin which will save all their information and then use it to personalize the message.aspx page and the person will receive an email.
here is the code:
Private Sub cmdRegister_Click(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdRegister.Click
Dim status As MembershipCreateStatus
Dim organization As New Org
Dim employee As New Employee
Dim description As New Description(25)
Dim userMembership As MembershipUser
Dim stringBuilder As New StringBuilder
Try
Membership.CreateUser( _
txtUserName.Text, _
txtPassword.Text, _
txtEmail.Text, _
"question", _
"answer", _
True, _
status)
If status.ToString = "Success" Then
organization.GSTRate = 1
organization.QSTRate = 1
organization.AccountStatus = 2
organization.Name = txtOrg.Text
organization.Active = 1
organization.OrgTypeID = cboType.SelectedValue
organization.Create()
organization = Nothing
organization = New Org(txtOrg.Text)
employee.Username = txtUserName.Text
employee.OrgID = organization.ID
employee.FirstName = txtFName.Text
employee.LastName = txtLName.Text
employee.Title = txtTitle.Text
employee.Username = txtUserName.Text
employee.IsAdmin = True
employee.IsSupervisor = True
employee.IsAccountant = False
employee.IsAdvalorem = True
employee.Email = txtEmail.Text
employee.Phone = ""
employee.Create()
Roles.AddUserToRole(employee.Username, "Admin")
userMembership = Membership.GetUser(txtUserName.Text)
stringBuilder.Append(description.EnglishDescription)
stringBuilder.Replace("(name)", employee.FirstName & " " & employee.LastName)
stringBuilder.Replace("(OrgName)", organization.Name)
stringBuilder.Replace("(username)", employee.Username)
stringBuilder.Replace("you must activate your account", "you must <a href='https://www.advataxes.ca/login.aspx?action=activate&id=" + userMembership.ProviderUserKey.ToString + "&username=" + userMembership.UserName + "'>activate your account</a>")
SendEmail(userMembership.Email, "Advataxes: Account created ", stringBuilder.ToString, Session("language"))
Session("NewUserEmail") = userMembership.Email
Response.Redirect("message.aspx?id=364")
Else
lblInvalidUserName.Visible = True
If status.ToString = "DuplicateUserName" Then lblInvalidUserName.Text = "Username already exists"
End If
Catch ex As MembershipCreateUserException
MsgBox(GetErrorMessage(ex.StatusCode))
Catch ex As HttpException
MsgBox(ex.Message)
Finally
userMembership = Nothing
organization = Nothing
employee = Nothing
description = Nothing
End Try
End Sub
Looking at your code, I suspect the code execution is not successfully reaching the Response.Redirect("message.aspx?id=364") line and due to an exception the flow jumps to catch block/
Two possibilities I can think of:
Exception is thrown inside SendEmail method if smtp is not configured
Membership.CreateUser is failing due to incorrect database connectionstring
I suggest you put a breakpoint inside the cmdRegister_Click method and step through the code.
I have code that looks like this:
Using dbContext as IRFEntities = New IRFEntities
Dim getProspect = (From p in dbContext.IRF_Prospects _
where p.url = prospect_url _
Select p).FirstOrDefault
If getProspect.user_id Is Nothing Then
' Prepopulate the form with their information.
' These must have a value, so we need to make sure that no column is null in the database.
ddlProgram.SelectedValue = getProspect.program
txtFirst.Text = getProspect.first_name
txtLast.Text = getProspect.last_name
txtAddress.Text = getProspect.address
txtCity.Text = getProspect.city
ddlState.SelectedValue = getProspect.state
txtZip.Text = getProspect.zip
txtPhone.Text = getProspect.phone
txtEmail.Text = getProspect.email_address
txtYearEnrolling.Text = getProspect.enrolling_in
Else
' Redirect them to login.
Response.Redirect("login.aspx")
End If
End Using
I am getting the following error:
System.InvalidOperationException was unhandled by user code
HResult=-2146233079
Message=Nullable object must have a value.
On the following line of code:
txtYearEnrolling.Text = getProspect.enrolling_in
I know why I am getting the error - the value is null in the database. What I'd like to do is pull the value if it exists, but if it doesn't, I'd like it to either take a default value or just leave the field blank. What is the best way to accomplish this?
I had the following code:
If Page.IsPostBack = False Then
' If prospect is coming from unique url
Dim prospect_url As String = Page.RouteData.Values("value")
' Save prospect_url into session variable
Session("prospect_url") = prospect_url
Using dbContext As IRFEntities = New IRFEntities
' Prepopulate the states dropdown.
Dim getStates = (From p In dbContext.IRF_States _
Order By p.name _
Select p)
ddlState.DataSource = getStates
ddlState.DataTextField = "name"
ddlState.DataValueField = "id"
ddlState.DataBind()
' Grab info. about prospect based on unique url.
Dim getProspect = (From p In dbContext.IRF_Prospects _
Where p.url = prospect_url _
Select p).FirstOrDefault
' If they have a record...
If getProspect IsNot Nothing Then
'If IsDBNull(getProspect.user_id) Then
If getProspect.user_id Is Nothing Then
' Prepopulate the form with their information.
' These must have a value, so we need to make sure that no column is null in the database.
txtFirst.Text = getProspect.first_name
txtLast.Text = getProspect.last_name
txtAddress.Text = getProspect.address
txtCity.Text = getProspect.city
ddlState.SelectedValue = getProspect.state
txtZip.Text = getProspect.zip
txtPhone.Text = getProspect.phone
txtEmail.Text = getProspect.email_address
txtYearEnrolling.Text = getProspect.enrolling_in
Else
' Redirect them to login.
Response.Redirect("login.aspx")
End If
End If
End Using
End If
I then added directly below ddlState.DataBind() the following:
' Prepopulate the programs dropdown.
Dim getPrograms = (From p In dbContext.IRF_Program _
Order By p.name _
Select p)
ddlProgram.DataSource = getPrograms
ddlProgram.DataTextField = "name"
ddlProgram.DataValueField = "id"
ddlState.DataBind()
Now I get the error:
The ObjectContext instance has been disposed and can no longer be used for operations that require a connection
If I comment out the inserted code, the code works. Why is this code causing a problem?
You have lost this object:
dbContext
That is the resources (including the connection operations) for this object have already been disposed of and cleaned up. You can re-create the object if you need to databind another drop down list.
Dim dbContext as IRFEntities=Nothing
Using dbContext= New IRFEntities
//perform first databind
End Using
Using dbContext = New IRFEntities
//code to perform second databind
End Using
Here is what I have:
Dim cmsManager As New Telerik.Cms.CmsManager()
Dim currentNode As Telerik.Cms.Web.CmsSiteMapNode = CType(SiteMap.CurrentNode, Telerik.Cms.Web.CmsSiteMapNode)
Dim currentPage As Telerik.Cms.ICmsPage = currentNode.GetCmsPage()
Dim currentPageId As Guid = currentPage.ID
Dim pageFromDb As Telerik.Cms.IPage = cmsManager.GetPage(currentPageId)
Me.LastUpdateDate = pageFromDb.DateModified
Unfortunately .DateModified returns the last time that a page was edited instead of when it was last published. I've been looking through the documentation but I haven't been able to find any corresponding properties.
Here's the code I'm using now, it seems to be getting the correct date on Publish:
Dim cmsManager As New Telerik.Cms.CmsManager()
Dim currentPageId As New Guid(SiteMap.CurrentNode.Key)
Dim pageFromDb As Telerik.Cms.IPage = cmsManager.GetPage(currentPageId, False)
Dim staged As Telerik.Cms.IStagedPage = pageFromDb.GetVersion(pageFromDb.Version)
Me.LastUpdateDate = staged.DateModified
I'm not sure if there's a better way to do it though.
For version 10, I'm using the following code:
var node = SiteMapBase.GetActualCurrentNode();
var itemVersions = VersionManager.GetManager().GetItemVersionHistory(node.PageId);
var lastPublishedItem = itemVersions.Where(i => i.IsLastPublishedVersion).FirstOrDefault();
var lastPublishedDate = lastPublishedItem.LastModified.ToString("dd MMMM yyyy");
I wish there's a more straight forward way to do this..
I'm looking for a little help on programmatically passing parameters to a SSRS report via VB.NET and ASP.NET. This seems like it should be a relatively simple thing to do, but I haven't had much luck finding help on this.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to go to get help with this, or perhaps even some sample code?
Thanks.
You can do the following,: (it works both on local reports as in Full Blown SSRS reports. but in full mode, use the appropriate class, the parameter part remains the same)
LocalReport myReport = new LocalReport();
myReport.ReportPath = Server.MapPath("~/Path/To/Report.rdlc");
ReportParameter myParam = new ReportParameter("ParamName", "ParamValue");
myReport.SetParameters(new ReportParameter[] { myParam });
// more code here to render report
If the Report server is directly accessible, you can pass parameters in the Querystring if you are accessing the repoort with a URL:
http://MyServer/ReportServer/?MyReport&rs:Command=Render&Param1=54321&Param2=product
You can add output formatting by adding the following on the end of the URL:
&rs:Format=Excel
or
&rs:Format=PDF
It's been a while since I did this code, but it may help:
Your web project has to be a Web Site, and not a project of type "ASP.Net Web Application", or you won't be able to add the reference mentioned below.
Right click on the project and add an ASP.Net folder - App_WebReferences. You'll have to specify the server where your SRS is; choose the .asmx.
Once it's added, the folder under that level is called RSService, and under that are 2 things: reportservice.discomap & .wsdl.
In my VB, I do Imports RSService and Imports System.Web.Services.Protocols, then...
Dim MyRS As New ReportingService
The reporting service is on a different server than the webserver the app is on, so I can't do the following: MyRS.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
Instead: MyRS.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential(rs1, rs2, rs3),
where the rs1/2/3 are the login to SRS box, password to SRS box, & domain name". (These are encrypted in my web.config.)
Then, a mass-paste:
MyRS.Credentials = New System.Net.NetworkCredential(rs1, rs2, rs3)
Dim ReportByteArray As Byte() = Nothing
Dim ReportPath As String = "/SRSSiteSubFolder/ReportNameWithoutRDLExtension"
Dim ReportFormat As String = "PDF"

ReportParams(0).Value = WhateverValue

' as above, as explained by http://www.odetocode.com/Articles/216.aspx.)
