My goal - getted actual data from report GA4 in Backend app, how is it done in the dashboard. But, problem - report contains only part of data. I want get active users with city in interval last half on hour. I do it like this:
BetaAnalyticsDataClient.create().use { analyticsData ->
val request: RunReportRequest = RunReportRequest.newBuilder()
.setProperty("properties/$propertyId")
.addDimensions(Dimension.newBuilder().setName("city"))
.addMetrics(Metric.newBuilder().setName("activeUsers"))
.addDateRanges(DateRange.newBuilder().setStartDate("today").setEndDate("today"))
.build()`
I get a result in which there are no cities that are currently in the dashboard on the map. I had tried in GA4 settings interval updating data, i not found this. What is reason? Thanks!
The Method: properties.runReport is the standard GA4 report, and is limited to data that has been processed. Data processing takes between 24 and 48 hours it is not meant for real time.
You need to use the Creating a Realtime Report if you want real-time data, and you are limited to the dimensions and metrics available real-time these reports are very limited.
I guess what i am saying is you are running the wrong report, and you should not expect to get the data you want from the Realtime report.

I am trying to generate a report using Google Analytics Explore tab using Free Form technique. Few weeks ago I could use Message name, stream name and time to see all the notification name, platform and total no of click. I exported the same to excel file.
but today when I tried to generate the same I couldn't find "Message Name" dimension. Is this field removed from pre defined/custom dimensions from GA? or am I doing something wrong?
My main purpose is to get all list of notifications sent via Firebase.
Any help will be deeply appreciated.
Given that you excluded the obvious issues like using the too-fresh data, the proper way to debug it is to export the data into a sample BQ table, then conduct exactly the same analysis that you're trying to conduct in GA4's explorer. From there, if your issue is with explorer's filters, you will quickly see it.
If, however, you're able to see your event properties in BQ, but not able to get the explorer to display them... Well, Google likely saved quite a lot of money on GA4. UA was pretty expensive. GA4 now introduces all these amazing features like data retention limits, properties' values cardinality bugs, odd inconsistencies between explore's reports and default reports and so on.
For now, the best way to really access your data minus all the artificial limitations of GA4 is to ETL your data from there either through the reporting API or exporting it to BQ.
I have a google analytics report in datastudio. One of the pages in the report is attempting to report on events. In GA when looking at the event in the e-commerce explorer tab I will see data for revenue, ecommerce conversion rate, per session value, but in my data studio report all values show as zero.
This is a straight google analytics data source (i.e. there is no data blending).
Screen shots below of the datastudio result and the analytics report for the data I am trying to match.
Every resource I can find says this should be possible and the fact that Google Analytics has the exact same data showing again makes me think this is possible.
Is there an issue with what I am doing or the metrics / dimensions I am calling? If not why isn't this working?
I have struggled with something like this too. I would guess that the problem is with the decimal places, which I couldn't get to work in GDS - zeroes all over the place, just like you are getting. When I multiplied the defined event value by 100, it all worked. Worth a try, I think.
I'm using the Google-Analytics API to query my analytics for data using the Google Analytics Spreadsheet Add-on We then use the spreadsheet data in Google Data studio for a dashboard to display the data.
Everything has been going well for the last few months, however over the last 48 hours we have begun to receive sampled data when we query the API using the spreadsheet add on. This is undesirable for how we are using the data.
The total results that we were getting before being returned was about 1100 results. We have altered the date range of the query to be only 3 days whereas before we were querying since the start of the year.
Initially that worked and the results were no longer sampled. Then 24 hours later the data appears to be sampled again.
The documentation says the following regarding sampling for the free account:
Analytics Standard: 500k sessions at the view level for the date range you are using
We are not using our analytics that heavily so I cannot understand why we would have hit the 500K limit?
It is also not clear to me what a "View Level" is? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
I have two view/profiles linked to my google analytics account. I want to fetch the hourly data for the current day, ie
start date:today
end date: today
with a few filters and dimensions.
Now I am getting the response for one view that means it is possible in google analytics, however for the other view its showing all the values as 0- this applies both to the gui and the api.
Can anyone suggest me how to enable it for the other view as well?
You cannot. Google Analytics needs some processing time. It might be that some data appears immediately, especially on small accounts, but it's not guaranteed and not a thing you can "enable" or count on.
Updated: Okay, that was a dumb answer. Still, there is a processing latency event in GA Premium. It is possible to get realtime data, but that's a different API with limited data (the core reporting API might return data, but no guarantees for that).
But I admit, since your problem is that you do not get data for the whole day yor have a different problem. But with a premium account you should be able to contact your account manager/technical support.
Our application needs to gather usage data through the Measurement Protocol of Google Analytics.
We can successfully send "appview" hits to the Google Analytics server, and get a proper response by it (a GIF image). The appview hits appear on the GA Dashboard, along with the country of origin, session duration, etc.
We also have several custom dimensions and metrics that we want track for each hit. We have set those up in the GA Admin panel with the correct scope, index and active state. We have 3 Hit-scoped dimensions, 3 User-leveled dimensions and 1 Hit-scoped metric, all set to Active state.
We send the dimensions and metrics as described in the docs at
Custom Dimensions / Metrics
attached to the hits they apply for, like so:
...&cm1*=3 <--for the metric
and
...&cd6*=15 <--for the dimensions (some dimensions have numeric values, others are text)
The problem is that those metrics and dimensions don't show up in our custom reports: the reports always say "There is no data for this view.". For example, we have a report that has one dimension and one metric, without any filters, set to "Any view". It doesn't matter if the Type of the report is Explorer, Flat Table or Map Overlay, it never shows anything.
There have been several days since the hits were received and appeared in the dashboard, but the reports are still empty. So scratch out any processing lag.
We tried sending "event" hits instead of "appview" hits - again, the hits show up in the Dashboard, but the reports are empty.
We cannot get any useful insights without using dimensions and metrics - so there is no way to get by without this.
Because of reasons too long to describe, we cannot use any of the Google-provided Analytics libraries.
Is there anything else we need to do to see data in those reports?
When using the measurement protocol you need to that the profile is not set to exclude bot and spiders.
Go to the google analytics website under the admin and the settings under the profile in question.
Beyond that check the realtime reports you should see the hits coming in. You will need to wait 24 -48 hours for data to appear in the standard reports due to data processing lag.
