Bootstrap Columns are not appearing side-by-side no matter what I try - css

I have the following code:
<div class="mainptext">
<h3><strong>Learn the following:</strong></h3>
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-6">
<ul>
<li>Lifts</li>
<li>False Deals</li>
<li>Side Slips</li>
<li>Passes</li>
<li>Palming</li>
<li>False Shuffles</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="col-6">
<ul>
<li>False Cuts</li>
<li>Color Change</li>
<li>Crimps</li>
<li>Jogs</li>
<li>Peaks</li>
<li>Glides</li>
<li>Reverses</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
No matter what I do, the result is the second column appears directly below the other.
The Margin - 100% and it shouldn't be.
I used the following https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.1/layout/grid/#equal-width for reference.
I've been doing web development for over 35 yrs and this, so very simple, is kicking me.
This code lives inside an article tag. It's not full width of the page but a piece of it.
"NOTE: Ignore the DJ equipment. That picture will be replaced"
Here's the section that holds the box:
<!-- Main -->
<div id="main" class="site-main container_12">
<!-- Left column -->
<div id="primary" class="grid_8">

<article class="single-post">

Thoughts?
UPDATE: This is what I see in the DEV console
Then the console log:

I just copy and paste your html elements and its working fine I using Bootstrap Version 4.1.3 as CDN.
I think override style on columns so need to find which style is override from Inspect Element.

Getting Zurb Foundation `.row .row` error, but am unsure why

I am aware the .row .row problem occurs when you two .row elements not seperated by a column element.
However, my markup is as follows:
<div class="row content">
<div class="large-5 none show-for-medium columns">
<div id="panel">
<ul class="row">
<li class="columns">
<div class="row"><!--THIS IS THE ELEMENT AFFECTED-->
<div class="small-9 columns"></div>
<div class="small-3 columns"></div>
</div>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
<div class="large-7 columns">
</div>
</div>
Apart from #panel, all the mark up seems to be to Foundation's specs.
I tried removing the #panel div altogether, but got the same result.
Would anyone know what could be causing this?

Need to create the layout shown in pic with Bootstrap. How to place all the fields?

I want to create this layout using Bootstrap. It should be responsive. I am unable to get things into place as I am using different rows for each image.
My code: https://jsfiddle.net/dxs2gdkg/
<!-- Page Content -->
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-4 content-image">
<img src="http://placehold.it/200x200">
</div>
<div class="col-md-4">
<h3>State of Texas Approved</h3>
<h2>Online Drivers Ed</h2>
</div>
<div class="col-md-4 featured-image">
<img src="http://placehold.it/300x300">
</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class=" col-md-12 main-list">
<ul>
<li>America's #1 Driving School - Most Selected Course Provider</li>
<li>Save a trip to the DPS! Official test included in the Course</li>
<li>100% Pass Rate - Guaranteed to Pass the Official Test</li>
<li>Mobile, Tablet or Computer - Convenient, Self-Paced Course</li>
</ul>
<div class="small-images">
<img src="http://placehold.it/200x100">
<img src="http://placehold.it/200x100">
</div>
</div>
</div>
You'd need one row to place all content, divide it into two columns. After left column should also be a row to be divided further into two columns.
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-6">

bootstrap 3 layout overlap - lack of understanding

I'm trying to layout a page element using bootstrap 3 as it's base. I've been ok with most of the layout but I'm having trouble with a particular layout I'm trying to create.
Using the standard container > row > column approach the first row only contains an image, the second row a nav type panel which is meant to sit beneath the image. Instead it's appearing at the top.
Looking at it with chrome the first row appears to have no height, despite the image.
There's something I'm missing or don't understand here.
Update
The image in the main container is absolutely positioned with -50% top to handle an oversized image. The main container is set to relative.
Here's an image of what I'm trying to create (90% there)
I've created a jsfiddle here: http://jsfiddle.net/longestdrive/vt24K/
the html is below:
<div id="hole-stats-modal">
<div class="container" >
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-12">
<!-- image -->
<img src="http://downssiteassets.s3.amazonaws.com/content/articles/th_downs%20golf%20503.JPG" class="img-responsive course-image" />
</div>
</div>
<!-- hole stat panel -->
<div id="hole-stats-panel" class="transparent-back">
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-12">
<!-- side stats -->
<h3>Hole Detail</h3>
<p>Content for this panel</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<!-- hole text info -->
<div id="course-guide" class="transparent-back">
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-1">
<h3 id="hole-n-2" >3</h3>
</div>
<div id="hole-description" class="col-sm-8 ">
<p>Some text here</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="hole-navigation">
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<ul class="unstyled list-inline">
<li>1</li>
<li>2</li>
<li>3</li>
<li>4</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
The hole stat panel and hole info panel correctly appear where I expect them to but the nav panel does not
Any help appreciated
I think you had way more containers and rows than are needed. I recreated what you are looking for using a lot less elements.
you really only need two rows, one for the image and one for the bottom nav.
jsFiddle Demo
<div id="hole-stats-modal">
<div class="container">
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-12"> <!--optional-->
<div class="image"> <!-- Relative Pos with image as background -->
<div class="right-overlap transparent-back">...</div><!-- Absolute Pos to right-->
<div class="bottom-overlap transparent-back">...</div><!-- Absolute Pos ro bottom-->
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-sm-12"><!--optional-->
<div class="hole-navigation">
</ul></ul> <!--Nav-->
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

Bootstrap - Divs in a row are causing shift/jump effect

I have a page developed using twitter bootstrap version 2. I have a row that is divided into span8 and span4. Span8 has some image slider (built with jquery) and span4 has just some links. When the page loads, all the links in the span 4 is displayed first and then when the image loads, the text gets pushed to right. Is there a way to prevent this shift/jump effect?
<div class="row-fluid">
<div class="span8" id="imgDiv">
<!-- Image slider goes here -->
</div>
<div class="span4" id="linksDiv">
<ul>
<li>link1</li>
<li>link2</li>
<li>link3</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
I have devised the following solution. Here's a JSFiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/sJq6y/
HTML
<div class="container">
<div class="row-fluid">
<div class="span8">
<div class="imgDiv">
<h1> Image slider goes here </h1>
</div>
</div>
<div class="span4 linksDiv">
<ul>
<li>Link One
</li>
<li>Link Two
</li>
<li>Link Duo
</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
CSS
.linksDiv ul {
list-style:none;
background-color:lightgrey;
width:90px;
height:90px;
padding:10px;
}
.imgDiv h1 {
text-align:center;
color:tomato;
}
Images
Probably due to styling coming from #imgDiv and #linksDiv.
Would this option work for you?
<div class="row-fluid">
<div class="span8">
<div id="imgDiv">
<!-- Image slider goes here -->
</div> <!-- end #imgDiv -->
</div>
<div class="span4">
<div id="linksDiv">
<ul>
<li>link1</li>
<li>link2</li>
<li>link3</li>
</ul>
</div> <!-- end #linksDiv -->
</div>
</div>
Good luck!
