I have a windows setup project along with my project(WPF application) where I am adding a 3rd party USB driver(Silicon Labs USBXpressInstaller.exe) as a Custom Action in the setup project which makes my .MSI file along with the USB driver.
Project Tree: MyProject and SetUp Project
Custom Action for my SetUp Project:
After I build the project and the setup project, it is installing fine if the user is an Admin but gives the error pop-up "There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor"(see below image) every time non-Admin tries to install the MSI. How can I fix this issue?
Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Thanks,
Sudheer

Edits (08/06/2021): How can I suppress the below window when a non-admin is installing the msi?
Latest Update: I received a call from a client saying that they are not able to install the application at all. The user has DOMAIN ADMINISTRATOR rights for the PC he is trying to install on. For me, it is working now once I enter the Admin password (which I want to suppress). But, for the DOMAIN ADMINISTRATOR, there is no UAC pop-up shown as they are in the ADMINISTRATOR group but does not install as well.

I just built a Project Server 2016 and have connection troubles. Since this is a proof of concept, I did not use TLS. The URL is just http://xxxxxxxxxxxxx/sites/PWA I'm using the Project Permissions Mode.
I am testing with an unactivated copy of Project Professional 2013
I set the version in PWA Settings
My client computer is not in the same domain as my Project Server. I choose the domain\user name when starting MS Project:
Project does not prompt for a password. It immediately gives an error:
So next time, I choose work offline. Project opens and I check the Info page:
I click Connect to Server and it does. Still no password prompt.
However, I cannot open a project from the Project Server.
Meanwhile, I have no problems on PWA making, editing, saving, publishing, checking in, etc. I made a new project and set the permissions correctly.
When I try to open it in Project by clicking the icon on the web page,
I get the same error.
What am I missing?
I hate it when I discover my own dumb mistake an hour after posting a question.
Apparently, you must only use alphanumeric characters when you Add a Project Web Account in MS Project.
In the Info -> Manage Accounts -> Project Web Accounts dialog box, I deleted my Project Web accounts except "Computer"
I closed and restarted MS Project Professional
In the Info -> Manage Accounts -> Project Web Accounts dialog box, I added a new account but I only used letters in the Name field
I closed and restarted MS Project Professional
Logged into the new Project Web Account
Everything works now.
Apologies for wasting your time. Thanks for looking.
I am new to Tizen. I got the extension for visual studio mac and Im trying to create a simple hello world program - I want to try the application out on my Samsung tv. I created the solution and the project builds, But it will always fail on installation. I get this generic installation error message with nothing else. Did some research around and tried installing the app via the device manager. I get this error every-time.
I don't know what else to try at this point!
I have also done these things.
I have installed the TV extensions and certificate.
I have Created a Samsung Certificate and synced it to my Samsung Account with Public privileges.
I enabled develop mode on my TV and was able to successfully connect to it via Device Manager
I clicked Permit To Install Applications
You can refer this link:

You can launch your app via CLI instead of SDB Shell.
Anyone have experience/documentation integrating the HockeyApp SDK into a VS2015 Community Windows 10 Mobile Cordova app and adding the version to the HockeyApp dashboard?
When I use HockeyApp on my Windows device, I see the following error when I try to install
This App cannot be installed over the air.
I packaged the app using Project > Store > Create App Packages and uploaded the .aapx from the AppPackages. I select no when the wizard asks if Do you want to build packages to upload to the Windows Phone
Store?
Any thoughts?
In addition, When I upload the release apk, or aapx I get the following on the HockeyApp dashboard.
No statistics found. Please integrate HockeySDK to collect analytics, crash reports, and feedback:
Note: I am using the cordova-hockeyapp-plugin for Android and IOS.
https://github.com/wnyc/cordova-plugin-hockeyapp
Right click your project and select store, then click Create App Packages. Select no as you mentioned, click next, you can set Version and output type in the page. Check ARM and click create button. You may upload .appx file to Hockeyapp. Hockeyapp will create a new project in the dashboard.
Did you sign your app for company app distribution as described here?
If yes, please upload your .aetx token to the app page, then the download page should offer both files and the installation should work.
Did you set the right App ID? Does the version exist on HockeyApp? If you set right, the crash report will appear.
This App cannot be installed over the air. error appears because an .aetx is required. An .aetx is generated using a purchased Enterprise Mobile Code Signing Certificate from Symantec Corp and AetGenerator.exe
However, if you want to use the native HockeyApp for sideloading on the device, you'll still get This App cannot be installed over the air.
Note: An .aetx is not necessary for sideloading Windows 10 mobile apps. Unfortunately, the native HockeyApp does not have the ability to download and install the app for sideloading. Instead, the app should be download and sideloaded to the device via the web ui.
Solution:
Purchase Symantec Certificate to create .aetx
or
Sideload apps using the HockeyApp web ui.
Hope this helps!
I'm attempting to install a fresh installation of DNN, to evaluate it as well as extend it with custom functionality. The end goal is to gain knowledge on how it behaves prior to receiving a DNN-based product from a third party developer. I've been stumped right from the outset, so am reaching out to the forum for some help.
Problem Statement
I am unable to install DNN at all, because the installation wizard does not load properly, and is missing some controls. It doesn't load most external resources (.css, .js, etc), and inspecting the headers shows those resources are returning 404 errors. Notably, the browser continually (over 1000x) attempts to load dnn_logo.png, each time returning a 404. I would like to know how to install/configure the site source files so that the installation wizard works properly, and I can continue the installation process. I am using the "Installation Package" variant of the software.
Problem Background
I checked the path of dnn_logo.png and it does in fact exist.
I've been using this guide to install the site: http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/install_dotnetnuke (the 2nd section, with separate DB).
My installation environment: Win7 x64, IIS 7.5; SQL Server Express, named instance, using windows auth
DNN version: 7.3.1
Installation folder permissions are:
IIS AppPool\DotNetNuke --> modify
NT Authority\Network Service --> modify
SQL Permissions: both users above are set as db_owner for the database
Attempted Resolution Steps
Followed the written tutorial, as well as four installation videos authored by the DNN team
Reinstalled the site three times - first was using outdated v.7.3, 2nd selected the "unblock" option when unzipping the source
Adjusted folder permissions and double checked them; for user DotNetNuke
Added user Network Service with permissions, according to the info in the linked doc
Adjusted web.config and turned off URL rewriting; ended up reverting all changes
Solved
IIS 7.5 (and others) needs to have the ASP.NET server extensions installed, and this will fix the problem. To get you started: you can add these by either going to Turn Windows Features On or Off from the Start Menu of Windows 7, or by using the Microsoft Web Platform Installer from within IIS (if you've downloaded IIS separately).
The solution was in the developer docs located elsewhere on the DNN site, found here: http://www.dnnsoftware.com/wiki/page/development-environment .
I ran into similar issues and thought I would share my solution for others that may need it. It turned out that turning on IIS Management Service solved my issue. To enable this feature go to turn windows features on or off as mentioned above. Select Internet Information Services -> Web Management Tools & check IIS Management Service.
I have built a WCF service that is hosted in a Windows Service following this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms733069.aspx. Part of what the code in the service does is join a multicast group and listen for data that is broadcast to the group. Then it processes it. I have found that when I install the service manually using InstallUtil it works fine. To install it manually I do the following:
Build the MyService project in Visual Studio.
Right click on the Visual Studio Command Prompt and choose Run As Administrator
Navigate to the folder that has the MyService.exe file
Run the InstallUtil command as follows: installutil.exe MyService.exe
The service installs in Windows fine and then I start it. Then I run my ASP.NET application which is the client for the service and it runs fine. The service receives and processes the data just fine.
However I am trying to use Advanced Installer to build an MSI or EXE that will install the service and the ASP.NET application all at once so it doesn't have to be done manually. I am able to successfully create the Advanced Installer project that does this and it actually installs both the ASP.NET application and the Windows Service just fine and it starts my Windows Service too. However the really strange thing is that when I run the application I find that my service code can not receive any multicast data. It seems to block on that line of code and I never get any data. Does anyone know why this would happen? I have tried using an EXE and using "Run As Administrator" when I do the Advanced Installer installation. Here is the code from my service.
_groupAddress = IPAddress.Parse(_myIPAddress);
_listener = new UdpClient(_myPort);
_groupEP = new IPEndPoint(_groupAddress, _myPort);
_listener.JoinMulticastGroup(_groupAddress);
byte[] _bytes = _listener.Receive(ref _groupEP);
It seems to block on that last line of code and it never receives any data. This only happens when I install using Advanced Installer. When I install manually it works fine.
A service is configured to run under the identity of a user. Is this different when you install with the different methods?
Do you use the same port number in both cases, if not it could be the firewall.
99% sure that you have checked it, but check that the service is running after it is installed using advanced installer.
Check the event log for problems with the service.
It may be that your Windows Service is not running with sufficient credentials to perform this action. To test this, I'd recommend trying to change the user account being used for the service to see if that makes any difference.
To do this, go to the services applet (start, run, type services.msc). Find your service, right-click, properties, "Log On" tab, choose "This Account" and select an administrator user account that the service can run under.
I initially thought as the guys said this was a problem with the user credentials. But since you said in both cases the service is installed under the LocalSystem the problem seems to be elsewhere.
I recommend you first check the system "Events Viewer" for any messages regarding your message failing to start, maybe there you can find more information about the failure case.
If you can't find more detailed there I suggest a little bit of reverse engineering, to see what InstallUtil does and Advanced Installer doesn't, or the other way around. Advanced Installer comes along with the Repackager tool. You can use this tool to capture the system changes performed when running "InstallUtil" by providing a dummy executable to the Repackager when it is asking for the setup package, for example Notepad.
When the Repackager launches Notepad, leave it open and run your install command for the service, after the service finished installing, close Notepad and leave the repackager do its job. Then analyze the new project that it generates to see what resources has captured, like files, registry, services, etc...
You can also capture the install package create by Advanced Installer to see if the services installation from it creates less or more registration info for your service.
