I am trying to add symbol to readonly textbox.
I have tried like below.
aspx file:
<asp:TextBox ID="XcoordTextbox" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
aspx.cs file:
XcoordTextbox.Text= "✂";
But the output ✂ text in the box. But I need symbol only in a button or textbox.
How can I do it?
You need to convert the code to the actual symbol:
XcoordTextbox.Text = HttpUtility.UrlDecode("✂");
I guess you could also try with the HtmlDecode method.
There are other overloads where you can also specify the encoding.

I have the following code line in my aspx
<ItemTemplate>
My text
</ItemTemplate>
Now when I load the page I am getting
Compiler Error Message: CS1010: Newline in constant
The code allowed me to compile at first and I was able to run. The page shows the above exception.
If I replace <%# Eval("FileName") %> with a static value there it works fine. Any guess why this happens? Is there something around nesting <% operator? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have to have that Eval part there so that I get the value from server.`
Okay, I suppose you are inside of a GridView or a Repeater control and you want to correctly evaluate the Url to a file. You should not include another <%%> when already inside of these operators. And also replace = to # in order to correctly bind the data to anchor element. Code below should work for you!
<ItemTemplate>
My text
</ItemTemplate>
This is the page code for the control:
<asp:TextBox id="someID" maxlength="10" columns="10" runat="server" Text="<%# work %>" />
This is how I set up and populate the variable before page is rendered, it is in the code behind, I have tried I think all the variations available for the variable declaration, e.g. public, shared, protected, etc.:
Public work As String
work = "987654321"
The textbox always comes up blank. referred to this ms kb page for how this work and it has a specific example.
However, it didn't explain anywhere if there is some special way of declaring the variables used in the binding or some special way to set the value of the variable, or is there something needed to allow the <%# syntax to work?
Binding doesn't happen automatically. You have to call DataBind() either from Page control or the text control. Try put it in Page_Load() method.
Site will exclusively be used on mobile devices. So for fields requiring only numeric input, I want to bring up the numeric keypad. I can successfully do this by using an html input element with the type set to tel. I want to add an asp:RequiredFieldValidator to this field and based on MSDN.
I need to set the input to runat="server". When I do this, I get this error;
tel is not a valid type for an input tag.
If I remove the runat="server", I get
Unable to find control id Contract referenced by the ControlToValidate property of ''
Here is my code:
<input type="tel" runat="server" id="Contract"></input>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator runat="server" ControlToValidate="Contract"
ValidationGroup="IfOnRent" Text="*"
ErrorMessage="Contract Required">
</asp:RequiredFieldValidator>
Am I just out of luck and have to code my own validations?
You may want to leave "type" undeclared in your code "front". You can set this in the code behind (maybe in the Page_Init or Page_Load):
this.Contract.Attributes.Add("type", "tel");
If you have Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Reliability Update 1 (KB2533523) installed, than TextBox accepts new html5 input types (you would need it for UpdatePanel to recognize them on postback too).
Or you can just inherit HtmlInputText in your own control (any .net version - any input type):
[ToolboxData("<{0}:Input runat='server' />"), Themeable(true)]
public sealed class Input: HtmlInputText { }
If you are using C#
Contract.Attributes["type"]="tel"
Writing inline types for html inputs may produce parse error in .net. So add the above line of code in your PageLoad()
you can use
Make sure that the submit button has the same validationgroup property value as the requiredfieldvalidator
I have a multiline (> 50 lines) textbox containing plain text. I want to add either a session variable to the text in this box. In asp I would have done it by putting in <% %> code blocks but in .net I am getting the following error: "Code blocks are not supported in this context". I assume therefore that this would need doing in code behind.
Is there a quicker way than putting all the text from the textbox in a string in code-behind and then adding the variable on like this? I would like to keep the text in my aspx page if possible.
Thanks
How about your codebehind does something like:
myTextbox.Text += Session ["mySessionVariable"];
after you've filled the textbox.
Incidentally, you don't have to
'put all the text from the textbox in
a string in codebehind'
as the .Net framework exposes all the front-end controls as codebehind objects automatically.
EDIT:
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox1" runat="server" Rows="15" TextMode="MultiLine" Columns="70" Text='<%# Session["var1"] %>'></asp:TextBox>
This will work for binding just the session variable to the control. Don't forget to call
Page.DataBind();
after you've set your Session variables. Probably in Page_Load.
This will allow the binding such as it is, to occur. This won't work if you want to mix up static markup text with dynamic variables. For that, you'll need to get busy in the code-behind.
HTH.
Have you tried <%=Session["MySessionKey"] %> ?
I have a textbox.In its onclick iam calling a javascript fn to call calendar.Texbox is readonly. Clicking on textbox calendar is coming and value is showing in textbox. But on clicking submit button where I have written code to save, there i am not getting value in textbox. What may be the reason for that?
I suspect that your text box has the disabled attribute instead of readonly which prevents it from posting its value to the server.
I had this problem too, there is a really simple workaround
Instead of making the textbox ReadOnly using properties option. Do it thru the code behind adding this code:
YourTextBox.Attributes.Add("readonly", "readonly");
You can get the value by using
Request.Form[YourTextBox.UniqueID]
I'm guessing the textbox is disabled so that people have to use the calendar control to enter a date? The textbox is just for showing the selected date?
If you want the textbox to stay readonly (i.e. disabled client-side), have a hidden input that has the value you want to handle on the server is the way to go probably. So add an additional input for to the page. Use
<asp:HiddenField ... runat="server" />
So the client-side code that updates your readonly textbox will also update your hidden input.
if readonly property is true, its not break your .cs call. you can use this as always:
here are your inputs:
<asp:TextBox ID="txtBraid" runat="server" Text="Im sooo readonly" ReadOnly="True"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:Label ID="lblBraid" runat="server" Text="Im gonna change, i promise"></asp:Label>
on .cs page put these to onClick function or something:
lblBraid.Text = txtBraid.Text;
