I run a webshop offering subscriptions. The subscription product has a 'brush' attribute with different terms, with the following notation:
Term name: No. 1
Term slug: no-1
We want to change the internal slug to 'am55' instead of 'no-1'. However, when simply changing the slug to 'am55' (in a test environment), all existing subscriptions get their brush attribute changed to the old 'no-1' slug, instead of the new slug (with old term name). I understand these terms are thus identified by their slug instead of ID. Is there any way to correctly change the term slug, without running SQL-queries on thousands of subscriptions/orders?
Thanks in advance.
Edit:
Since no one seems to know of a fix, perhaps a different solution to my problem: instead of changing the slugs to 'am##', they keep their own slugs. However, then the problem is that there is an existing No.4 (no-4) brush, that will still be named No. 4 to the users that currently have it in their subscription. A new brush also named No. 4 will be added to choose for new subscription, obviously needing a different slug than no-4. Anyone know of any neat solutions to add the new brush and have the two No. 4 brushes exist concurrently (at least for a while).

There is a problem, I do not know how to solve it.
The scheme is as follows.
There are categories of goods, in this form:
Category-1(term_id=1)<br>
subcategory-1(term_id=4)<br>
subcategory-2(term_id=5)<br>
subcategory-3(name Tour)(term_id=6)<br>
Category-2(term_id=2)<br>
subcategory-1(term_id=7)<br>
subcategory-2(name Tour)(term_id=8)<br>
https://docs.gravityforms.com/creating-a-feed-for-the-advanced-post-creation-add-on/
Gravity Forms will initially look for the category/tag of the same name as specified and use that. If no match is found, then a new category/tag will be created. All new categories/tags created this way will be placed at the top level of the category/tags hierarchy.
I tried everything in the Populate Anything settings, I can’t get it to correlate with the category that I need.I need this (subcategory-2(name Tour)(term_id=8)), inserts here anyway (subcategory-3(name Tour)(term_id=6))
By the way, I'll add one more thing.

It would seem that he chose the category that is needed, how to force the search not by name, but by term id?
Can we call one taxonomy term from another as a parent and child relation for example I need to click on product category and that show me product series page and when I click on product each series that will lead me to actual product detail means node, so I have two taxonomies category and series I am about to click on category to carry me to series page and then to click on series page to carry me to product detail page on the concern series”
no codebase problem
i am expecting that these two taxonomies may be used as i have mentioned in the question summary but, i can't do it so i hope some help in resolving this issue
Let's look at this answer, I hope it will help you.
Taxonomy terms from the same vocabulary filtered and referenced on multiple content types
To do this you’ll need to have the Entity Reference module installed. So get that out of the way quickly with drush dl entity reference -y and drush en entityreference -y if you haven't already.
First up, we need the taxonomy set up.
Let's demonstrate with the help of an image.
You’ll notice that these terms could be more or less grouped into two categories: Transport and Sleeping. One term (couchette) kinda fits both criteria and is there to exemplify the reason for not using 2 different vocabularies to handle the issue. Now we need to technically make the distinction between these terms as well and since they are entities, we can use a field for that.
So we can now go ahead and add a new field to this vocabulary of the type List (text) with whatever widget you’d like (and let’s call the field Type). You should make the allowed number of values unlimited and put the following in the allowed values list:
Edit each term and select the appropriate type. As expected, for the term couchette, you should select both options.
Now that we have our taxonomy squared away, it’s time to create a View that will handle the filtering of these terms. Because if we now add the Tags taxonomy term reference field to our content types in the normal fashion (as it is already present in the Article content type) we’ll be able to select all the terms in the vocabulary for all the content types. And that's not what we want now.
So create a drupal 7/8 View that shows taxonomy terms of the Tags vocabulary - let’s call it Tags Filter. Add 2 displays of the type Entity Reference and a filter of the field we added to our terms earlier. So for instance the first display can show the terms which have Sleeping selected and the other one can show terms which have Transport. Save the View and you can close it.
Now finally we can edit our content types and add to each a new field of the type Entity Reference with a select list widget. For the target type select Taxonomy term and under Entity Selection choose the following: for Mode, go with Views: filter by entity reference view and then select the View in question - one of the two displays which we created earlier. In the picture below, I named one of the displays
Working on a large content base in WordPress, with the Co-Authors Plus plug-in installed. Several thousand authors. A new author needs to be added using the Guest Author functionality provided by the Co-Authors Plus plugin for WordPress, already enabled and successfully in use in our theme.
The new author wants his name spelled exactly as an existing author with the same name. Attempting to create the author record results in an error, wherein the plugin balks at the duplicate.
We only care about the Display Name - the slugs can be different, even have a number on the end. However, we can't use different fields than we already do, because we can't make the case for changing the front-end code just based on this error/case.
Has anyone had any luck with this, whether through a straightforward and sensible change in the plugin, a different method of data entry, or anything that's not too... "hackish"?
Been tinkering on and off for a couple days and arrived at a solution, although it's not ideal, that allows me to end up with multiple authors that have the same name.
In short, WordPress wants the new author's slug to be different than the first. Once that criterion is met and the record has been created, it appears I can do whatever I want with the Display Name on subsequent edits. The slug is generated automatically from the Display Name when the Guest Author record is created, so the trick is, well, to trick WordPress temporarily.
I followed these steps:
Choose a Display Name for the new author that will result in the creation of a slug you find acceptable. For example, if the original author's Display Name is John Smith (with a slug of john-smith), I used John Smith 2 as the Display Name for the new author.
Save the new author - in my example, the slug created upon saving was john-smith-2.
Now the new author can be edited - I changed the author's Display Name back to John Smith and saved without a problem or error.
Note that the slug, once created, cannot easily be changed, and in my case remained john-smith-2 - so make sure when you're creating the new author with the same name as an existing one that the slug that will be created from the temporary Display Name is something you can live with and, if possible, fits a pattern or system that you can use if you encounter this problem again in the future.
I have a Wordpress site where a lot of the categories are peoples names. The slug becomes john-smith fred-wilkinson etc by default. So the category list is in alphabetical order by their first name. I would like them to list by last name.
I could get the authors/editors to change the slug to wilkinson-fred etc but I would rather have a solution that they don't have to alter the default slug.
I know there are plug-ins that you can drag and drop to any order you want. Again this relies on the author/editor putting it in the right place.
My slugs currently look like this
john-smith
fred-wilkinson
Alan-t-jones
etc
I have other categories that I don't want to alter. I only want to reorder where the parent category is "artist".
Any ideas? If I put wilkinson-fred in the description field can I sort on that?
Thanks
I assume that you want to change the order of wp list categories function output (maybe make it a little clearer in your future SO questions!). If that's so, I think you have two options here:
1) Hijack the orderby parameter as mentioned in this answer by #Chris_O at Wordpress Stackexchange:
There is an unused column, term_order, in the wp_term_relationships table that you can use to assign a custom order to the terms within your taxonomy. The order is set at 0 by default and it will take a custom query to get the order back and another solution to set the order.
Although as #Kaiser mentions in the comments to the answer, this sollution is a little hacky as it's not meant to be used this way and its implemantation may change in future releases of Wordpress.
2) Store the output of the function in varible (echo => false under $args), manipulate the output and print the resulting array. This is the way I would choose as it makes you more in control of the situation.
Ok, here's the problem:
I have a list of contacts, which i have created in views, that are grouped by taxonomy terms like so:
(term:) Staff:
(node:) John Doe
john#doe.com
(node:) Jane Doe
jane#doe.com
(term:) Management:
Fred Doe
fred#doe.com
and so on...
As it is now, i have no idea what decides the order of the taxonomy terms (ie: why is the 'Staff' nodes coming before the 'Management nodes').
So what i need to do is to be able to sort the order of the terms, and also the order of the nodes in each 'category' (or what you would call it).
I have tried to sort the terms by weight, but the only thing that happens is that i get duplicated nodes output, and nothing happens with the order of the actual terms.
As for the order of the nodes, i was thinking that maybe a hidden CCK-field with some sort of weight, but i dont know. But the biggest problem is still the order of the categories.
If anyone has an answer to this it would be very helpful.
Thank you.
EDIT:
Strange, i tried that before i asked the question, but now it seems to work. However i still get duplicated nodes when i sort by taxonomy weight, for some reason. I really need to get rid of those. Heres how my view setup look, if its any help:
Fields: taxonomy=all terms (limited to one vocabulary)
image attach content
Sort criteria:
Taxonomy weight:descending
Filters: Taxonomy term id(with depth) // to filter out what page it belongs
Node type : contact
node published : yes
dont know if that information helps at all
/Anders
The solution is simple, in views you can sort your result by the taxonomy term. You have 3 options as default.
From the views interface:
Term Taxonomy terms. Note that using this can cause duplicate nodes to appear in views; you must add filters to reduce the result set.
Term ID The taxonomy term ID
Taxonomy Weight The term weight field
The sorting in views, is located in the top right corner, and gives a wealth of options as to how you want to sort your results.
Edit:
Duplicates is a known problem with taxonomy terms. The problem is that if a node has two terms that fit it will be included once for each term. When you use the taxonomy term filter, you can reduce duplicates, which should fix your problem:

I seldom have sort problems with views, but I have to admit it's not something I ever really focused on. Here's a short list of things you might wish to check. If that doesn't solve, it would be great if you could provide some more detail on your settings and what appears to be the default sorting in your current configuration.
How did you set the sort criteria in the views UI? You have basic settings available there (top right of the UI panel). See below for some screenshots that should help you finding your way around the configuration.
How did you set your taxonomy term order (accessible from somewhere similar to: http://example.com/admin/content/taxonomy/3 - where the number is the taxonomy ID).
Here is some more information on sorting capabilities of views.
Screenshots on how to configure sorting
NOTE: In this example I show how to sort nodes according to whether they are published or not, but the procedure applies equally for taxonomy terms.
In this view I already set up some sorting, add yours by clicking on the + button
