I'm a CS student and it's currently my first internship ever. My mission is to modify the content of wordpress post through database (and later make an automation script) but the problem is that the website uses Elementor plugin. Whenever i make the modification through elementor interface, it shows up on the website and inside the databse table wp_post, but if i modify the content in the database, it doesn't show up on the website. However, if i turn off the elementor plugin, the modification does show up (but the style of the site is broken)
Does anybody know how I could update the content via the database without turning off elementor ?

Hi all developers — hope there is a clever brain in here who can help.
I have a simple feature I want to implement to a site without much WP backend experience.
It is a "live chat on / off" widget/button which must be visible to operators in the dashboard. It’s purpose is to change a line in header.php / or change stylesheet for changing a picture in the frontend of the website from “offline" to "online”. I don’t have any experience in backend WP, but mostly doing website templates changes with css.
I’ve made a very simple “widget” in the backend - it’s just a wysiwyg editor button.

Therefore you could implement a plugin, which brings along a widget for showing offline or online status on the website's frontend.
As plugins can have a settings page, where options for that offline/online functionality could be saved, it shouldn't be a problem to access the option field in the widget.
Have a look at Wp-Live-Chat-Support and it's screenshots, especially the one with caption Settings page of WP Live Chat Support.
I have been asked to add a Wordpress blog to an existing website and wanted to ask the group a few tech questions.
The website is static, does not run with a database in the background, was created with plain html/css and is hosted on a generic server.
If I were to add a blog to this site, would I need to set up a database to hold the content?
If no database is needed, could content be uploaded/removed using ftp software one would normally use to manage a website like this?
Could the original Wordpress navigation and css be replaced with the css and navigation for the website?
Could the blog support widgets like as 'like' or 'add this' without the use of a database?
If anyone has insights they can share I would really appreciate it.

If you want to install WordPress, you will need a database. Check the codex for the full list of requirements for installing WP.
Other than this, yes, you can mimic the navigation and design of the main website by creating a custom theme.
I tried to search everywhere for an answer to my question but I still doesn't understand how Wordpress fully work.
I would like to use Wordpress as my news system CMS only. This means, I do not wish to set up my page layout via the Wordpress theme interface. If you guys know another news CMS called CuteNews, I want my Wordpress to operate pretty much like CuteNews.
How can I put Wordpress post entries into my website that uses my own layout (and not using the theme interface in Wordpress).

I have used this as a starting point for my detached wordpress site and it's working perfect.
You can actually! Without converting it to a theme. It works for me as I don't do wordpress themes but I use WP to power the back-end of my websites. I utilize WP's CMS feature.
here's a checklist of what you can possibly do to your website.
Your website design (html/css)
Install Wordpress on your server, or locally.
Download Blank WP Template, set this as your default template for your wordpress site.
Edit the Theme's CSS/Header/Footer according to your website design while keeping essential WP codes provided in the template.
Set your News Page as the Blog Entry in WP Dashboard.
If you want some news preview, such as titles to appear somewhere on your site like homepage, you can either call it thru PHP code available on the net or install a plugin in WP.
Items listed above maybe broad, but that's a starting point, as you can research on the net for detailed information on how to go about your website with wordpress CMS.

I want to design a Wordpress site that contains all of the usual Wordpress components (blog, contact us, image gallery, etc). I want to have a separate section of the site for "Books" and "Articles".
Admins will be able to enter a book/article with its detailed information (title, author, reference, etc.). I need to have a way for users (non admin) to be able to do an advanced search on these books entered by the Admin.
Should I use Wordpress for the entire site, and write a custom plugin for the book search piece? OR Have a custom PHP page for the searching? OR Is there a plugin that already exists where I could leverage Wordpress to do this advanced search for me? Any information to point me in the right direction would help.
Take a look at this Wordpress Plugin. It should provide you with what you need within the bounds of Wordpress. This should save time from having to write custom PHP code for this functionality.
There are probably other plugins available too that could work for you. One of the benefits of open source is there is a lot of user created content. This should help get you started.
How does one completely remove a plugin from WordPress?
I have deleted the plugin via WordPress admin and then reinstalled, problem persists.
I see 8 records in cmsoptions table referencing the offending plugin. Since WP Admin drags to a grinding crawl with the plugin active, and for weeks the plugin was working just fine, I have to conclude that the problem exists due to the plugin references in the DB.
If anyone has the inside word on completely obliterating a plugin from WP, please do share.
The the options API (http://codex.wordpress.org/Options_API) is open to the plugin to store whatever data it wishes (under whatever name it wishes). You'd have to search the plugin code to see what it is storing (and how) in order to get rid of the offending data.
The issue isn't with WordPress, it's with the plugin. WordPress is a framework and can't take responsibility for whatever gets built on top of it (ie plugins). It's like blaming a hammer for a poorly built house.
