So I'm trying to publish a project to a local folder, which normally works. But as soon as I get contents from another site to implement the new update into it, it fails. There are no errors what so ever, and in the suggested tmp-file, it says to check the output window. I am using Umbraco Version 7.15.5.
Thank you for your help in advance!

Please make Delete existing file as False. Delete the files manually and check.

I created my "base" app which I plan to use for a different little-changed app with different views and additional fields.
What is the right and easiest way to make a copy of this base app to different name and folder?
Also can than that apps work side by side on one portal?

I already try to rename app like in this post: 2sxc : Rename App Folder
Then create a new export of entire app, and restore portal to version before rename and try to import this "new" renamed app. But get the error...
Now I am looking to exported App.xml and there are "EntityGUID" and "AttributeSet StaticName" and "App Guid" with GUID values and I think that this is a problem at importing this "new" app...
Is it possible that I make a tool to parse this XML find all GUID-s then generated the same number of new GUID-s and replace old ones with new ones and repack ZIP and then try to import this? Can this be a solution or this is totally wrong?
I make an app : https://github.com/pircjernej/NajdiNET.2sxc.Rename
If you build it or download exe from the release you can change Exported app ZIP file to new name and folder... Then just install this changed zip and do what you want...
Now work for my sample 2sxc app but did not test how to work with 2sxc sample apps... I will do this in next days...
If someone wants to test it help or contribute, you are welcome.
==== edit 1 =====
I make quick test with 2sxc blog app and I think that work OK
As I try to build this project, I keep coming up with an error.
Description, where the eight '*' are always something different with every build:
An error occurred when merging assemblies: ILMerge.Merge: ERROR!!: Duplicate type 'myTypeName' found in assembly 'App_Web_********'.
and the file is
aspnet_merge
What do I need to do in order to resolve this (annoying) error?
A couple of things you can try is after right clicking on your project, select Publish Web App. Then under settings (settings for me, might be different for you), find your File Publish Options and click Configure. You'll see the dialog below.
Try the first or second option, Do not merge OR Do not merge. Create a separate assembly for each page and control
I know this is something that has plagued me in the past so good luck. Update us if you find any better or if something better works for you.
I have installed visual studio 2013 and I'm trying to configure asp.net web to allow or deny permissions to certain set of pages in website that I have created through visual studio, but I can't see any option to configure as in previous versions of Visual studios. I have researched and tried some steps provided in this LINK in stackoverflow without any luck.
I can revert back to Visual studio 2010/2012, but why is it that I have to revert back ? There could be a reason why Microsoft has removed this option to configure or for any other commercial reasons ?
Anyway, my main priority here is how to get a fix for the issue I am facing or is there any alternative ways to achieve it? I heard that configuring membership now involves cloud 2.0 Membership - source -> COMMENT FROM OTHER USER IN STACKOVERFLOW
I have registered IISEXPRESS with this command:
"C:\Program Files\IIS Express\iisexpress.exe"
/path:c:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ASP.NETWebAdminFiles
/vpath:"/asp.netwebadminfiles" /port:8089 /clr:4.0 /ntlm
and when I try to open the url: http://localhost:8089/asp.netwebadminfiles/default.aspx?applicationPhysicalPath=[C:\Users\kiriti\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\WebSite1]\&applicationUrl=/
I get an error saying:
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: System.ArgumentException: The parameter 'PhysicalDirectory' is invalid. Parameter name: PhysicalDirectory at System.Web.Configuration.VirtualDirectoryMapping..ctor(VirtualPath virtualDirectory, String physicalDirectory, Boolean isAppRoot, String configFileBaseName) at System.Web.Configuration.VirtualDirectoryMapping..ctor(String physicalDirectory, Boolean isAppRoot) at System.Web.Administration.WebAdminPage.OpenWebConfiguration(String path, String appPhysPath, Boolean getWebConfigForSubDir) at System.Web.Administration.WebAdminPage.VerifyAppValid()
Please help!
remove '[' and ']' from your application physical path
Try to Copy your project to somewhere else like C:\MyProject\
According to this Link it could be either the directory of the project too deep or it had illegal Character(s)
I had this problem before and this solution solved it.
I have encountered the same error and I found the solution to the problem.
Make sure that your application path uses the backslash and not the forward slash.
e.g. http://localhost:8080/asp.netwebadminfiles/default.aspx?applicationPhysicalPath=c:\MyProject\MySite&applicationUrl=/
The reason this usually happens is because, the name of the folder under projects is Website1 and the same time if you check the directory, there should be a file named Website1.sln (*sln extension). Basically .sln file is clashing with your project folder name. Solution: Change the name of .sln file to something else.
Secondly, remove [] brackets. You don't need them.
I hope this helps.
Thanks.
First of all sorry if the question is not very clear.
I am learning nHibernate from the summerofnhibernate.com, in the first chapter when I run a test project, I get the following error: Test method TestProject1.NHibernateDataProviderTestTest.CanGetCustomerByIdTest threw exception: NHibernate.HibernateException: problem parsing configuration : System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies;PrivateAssemblies\hibernate.cfg.xml'.
I have googled the problem, and the search says that the VS 2008 path is wrong(buggy), to place hibernate.cfg.xml in test project and adding the attribute: [TestMethod(), DeploymentItem("hibernate.cfg.xml")]
After having done this I still get the same problem.
But when I use Visual Studio 2010 I get the following error:
Test method TestProject1.NHibernateDataProviderTestTest.CanGetCustomerByIdTest threw exception:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
looks like 2 different problems.
For the first place nhibernate.cfg.xml in the Project and give the path to new Configuration("Path to hibernate.cfg.xml") somewhere in the testsetup.
The Second looks like the getmethod returns null because it cant finde the Customer with given id in the database. If you use SQLite inMemory a typical captcha is, that each new Connection points to a different Database -> Open Sessions with sf.OpenSession(theOneConnection) or Session.Clear() instead of creating a new one.
Hope it helps
Basically , (depends on your question : How to Configure Test Deployment with the file LocalTestRun.testrunconfig?)
Here is the way that you can follow:
To select files or folders to deploy, in run configuration
In Solution Explorer, under Solution Items, double-click the run configuration file that you want to edit.
A dialog box that has a name such as .testrunconfig appears.
Click Deployment.
Under Additional files or directories to deploy, specify additional files or folders to be copied.
To do this,
click Add file to select files; this opens the Add Deployment Files dialog box.
You can also click Add Directory to select folders by using the Add Deployment Directory dialog box.
In the .testrunconfig dialog box, click Save and then click OK.
These deployment items will be copied to the deployment folder whenever this run configuration file is active.
Hope this will help.
I am very confused right now. I have VS2008 at my job right now and I have a weird behavior that I have been searching for a while now.
When I compile the project, it works fine, but in runtime I have an error saying object not defined or something like that. The problem is that the imports/using is missing in my class but why does it compile?
In fact, I want to be able to see that error when compiling not when running the webapp.
REEDITED: Here is an example. Lets say i want to use a typed list, I am declaring my object list(of int) for example without having added my imports (system.collection.generic) in the class. then I compile, it works and then I run it, it fails because of the imports missing. is this normal behavior or not?
REREEDITED: I just noticed that the DLL of all my references were not copied in my bin folders even though all of them are set to "Copy local = true". Is it possible that it has to do with our shared directory (all external dlls) being on a network drive (\server\shared). I am really out of ideas on this issue....
problem was because we were having the classes in the app_data folder
The answer to the current question - why you are getting this error - is that ASP.NET does not show many errors at compile-time. You will need to manually go through the application to verify that all pages work correctly. This is very common with ASP.NET development, due to the nature of the environment.
If you post the real errors (probably should be as another SO question), we can perhaps help you with them.
Remove all the dll, etc from bin...
rebuild the whole solution then run
It should run fine...
