I use:
Bitnami Wampstack 7.3.17-1
Wordpress 5.4
What I want to do is installing Wordpress manually onto Bitnami on my local PC. I am familiar with XAMPP and WAMPP, so I though what I need to do after unzip the wordpress file is only to put it on htdocs folder. But I couldn't found it on Bitnami, what I can see is apps folder.
Then, because when I tried to access phpMyAdmin I only need to go to: 127.0.0.1/phpMyAdmin/, I thought it will also work for the wordpress. But turns out it's not.
I don't want to use Bitnami-wordpress installer like bitnami-wordpress-5.4.1-0-windows-x64-installer.exe. Because in the future I want to do it for other php-based website I made.
Anyone know how to do it?
Hi Bitnami Engineer here, you can follow these steps to deploy a PHP application on top of WAMP:
Copy the installdir/docs/demo folder into the installdir/apps directory.
Add the following line to the end of the installdir/apache2/conf/bitnami/bitnami-apps-prefix.conf file:
Replace the installdir placeholder with the full installation directory for your Bitnami stack.
Include "installdir/apps/demo/conf/httpd-prefix.conf"
Restart the Apache server using the graphical manager tool.
You should now be able to access the demo application at http://localhost/demo. - You should see a “Hello world” message in your browser.
You can now replace the files inside the installdir/apps/demo/htdocs folder with the WordPress' ones to deploy that application.
You can learn more about this here
https://docs.bitnami.com/installer/infrastructure/wamp/administration/create-custom-application-php/

this is my third question about the same project, so yes, i'm struggling.
I'm trying to manually import a wordpress site in local. We don't have access anymore to the dashboard (some bad stuff happenning), so i can't install a plug-in that migrate the site easily and automatically.
After having problems for linking the database with the site, i had PHP errors (continue targetting to break). Now i don't have php errors anymore but i can't access the site anymore.
I can go to localhost, it reaches it easily, i can go to my other projects, but it refuses to reach this particular project.
It says :
This site can’t be reachedlocalhost refused to connect.
Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED
I've traveled on different forums to find a solution but i didn't find why it occurs only on one of my projects. The only difference i see is that the other projects use mariaDB and this one MySQL.
thanks for the help
Dude,
check local on flywheel its much simplier than wamp. Link:
https://localwp.com/
besides when migrating manually:
zip all ur files and download
install new wordpress in your local machine.
copy somewhere new wp-config.php and save it in different localization
paste and extract zip package in new wordpress localization on your computer
download database from wordpress you want to migrate on your local machine
replace wp-config.php which u extracted from files with your new wordpress instalation wp-config.php [ad.3]
it would be nice if u install wp-cli on your computer:link for windows:
https://www.ryadel.com/en/install-wp-cli-windows-wordpress-command-line-interface-how/
import database into your new wordpress and than run search replace in order to change migrating site domain name [use wp cli its easiest way]
to import DB:https://developer.wordpress.org/cli/commands/db/import/
to replace domains:https://developer.wordpress.org/cli/commands/search-replace/
remember that your DB need to be .sql and pasted in main wp directory
open terminal in main wp directory and write than wp-cli commands
If u re not familiar with terminal on windows I prefer gitbash / its easy to use adding linux commands and all sort of staff (always remember to open as administrator)
u can download here:https://gitforwindows.org/
after performing all this actions you can now log-in into wordpress on your local machine.
go to settings->permalinks and click save.
here you go u have finally migrated your site!
If you see 'error technical issues' you should also check ur file and directory permissions of wordpress.
here a link to correct permissions You can change with in gitbash terminal:Correct file permissions for WordPress
I downloaded a website and its respective database from Microsoft Azure using FTP with Filezilla and I want to serve it locally. I already set the environment:
MySQL
Apache
PHP
phpMyAdmin
Wordpress
What is the next step to deploy the website? Should I copy the website folder in htdocs directory?
Finally I used the plugin Duplicator of Wordpress. This plugin allows me to create a full copy of a remote Wordpress site and an installer file. Once you generate these files you just have to copy them in the web server directory (or in a subdirectory like "MyWebsite") and execute the installer with your web browser going to:
http://localhost:port/MyWebsite/installer.php
I hope this is useful to someone. Cheers!
I just recently started by creating a EC2 instance on AWS. I used the Amazon Linux package. I changed the PHP settings to include the ability to upload files larger than 200MB. Got phpinfo.php working. Installed phpMyAdmin. Everything looked good.
Next, I installed Wordpress. It worked great. Then I tried installing a theme. Worked great. Then I started installing some plugins for that theme. Something made the site crash. I tried a few things, but since I couldn't go to the sites Wordpress Admin panel, it seemed hopeless. So I decided to start from scratch. I deleted the html directory (including wp-content) and dropped all the wordpress tables. I moved a fresh copy of Wordpress into the html directory, reconfigured the config.php file, and it recreated the Wordpress tables in the database. Seems to work great. When I try to upload a theme, it says:
Connection Information
To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.
I noticed that wp-content didn't have a uploads directory, so I created one. That seemed to let me upload the theme, but it showed up as a media file. I moved it to the theme directory and that worked. But when I tried to upload a plugin, I got the same message as a above.
What happened when I deleted everything? Or rather, where was information stored that when I reinstalled Wordpress, it didn't create a uploads directory? I am fine with reinstalling Wordpress from scratch, but I don't want to reinstall the whole LAMP stack or redo the AWS instance. Any thoughts?
The issue is that your web server doesn't have the proper permissions to write to your content directory.
The WordPress Codex has some good info for proper file and directory permissions. Ideally, all files should have 644 permissions, and all directories should be 755 (no higher).
If you're still running into issues adding plugins and updating WordPress, you should heed the advice of the following (so that you don't have to enter FTP details into WordPress each time):
Any file that needs write access from WordPress should be writable by the web server. If your hosting set up requires it, that may mean those files need to be group-owned by the user account used by the web server process.
Super basic noob question here.
What would be the file to open up on google chrome if I want to preview the wordpress site I'm building locally? The default.html is completely blank, and I'm not seeing an index.html or anything I can open
EDIT: What would be the php file to open/edit if I want to adjust the home page of the site?
You would have to first install a local web server. If you're on a Windows machine, something like WAMP or XAMPP will fit your needs to install Apache. From there, you'll install Wordpress by moving the wordpress files into the web directory (usually it's www or public_html) and then you'll be able to view the site.
You need a local server to run wordpress or any php framework. I would recommend installing WAMP and upload your wordpress folder there, it should work
You need a local server to run WordPress. You can use XAMPP that will fit both windows and Linux. Move your WordPress folder into installed xampp folder, like: c:/xampp/htdocs/'WordPress'.
Then open your browser and type localhost/wordpress and install WordPress.
If you want to write new .php files then you have to write that inside a theme as a template.
I've got a WP site in a workflow that goes local--> git (beanstalk) --> dev server.
Everything seems to be working fine when I deploy, but I've noticed that I can't upload images via WP and it seems like it's a directory permission issue.
The error I get is: "The uploaded file could not be moved to /path/blah/blah...
Is this because the FTP user doesn't 'own' these directories/files (because they weren't created via the WP site / FTP account of the dev server?
Please let me know if you've got any brilliant work-arounds or insights. I'm stumped.
Thanks in advance.
This is because Beanstalk uses ftp to upload your files, that means the owner becomes the FTP user. If Wordpress then wants to access those files, it is no owner so it can't delete/alter them. You can use chown apache <filename> on SSH if you want to make apache (wordpress) owner again. But now Beanstalk can't overwrite the files for the same reason.
The way to go is use a .gitignore file to ignore folders like uploads and cache. You don't need them locally for development, if you do, just grab them once with ftp.
I use this one myself with some additions. It may seem weird at first, but it rocks when it all works. :)
