Please forgive me, but this issue has caused me to headbutt my desk for the past 2 weeks. I am currently replicating the company website onto the Wordpress platform, as it currently sits on a very old version of Expression Engine.
There is a very simple client login area which has been set up on Wordpress. There are 3 pages which are set to private. I have created a branded login page using a login designer plugin ( which is quite cool ) All our clients already have passwords and have been set up on Wordpress as users under the subscriber profile.
Currently on the Expresssion Site, the clients login to via dropdown menus, and stay logged in to either link until they close the browser ( see image )
I having been trying to replicate this on the Wordpress site - we tried membership plugins, client portal plugins, private page PHP functions, but they do not fit the remit.
So, basically how do I get subscribers to login to view private pages and keep logged in without having to log back in when toggling through 2 drop down menus.
Thanks
To stay logged in that is WordPress standard (uses sessions and cookies to keep the user logged in)
For you case, I will give to the subscriber role the permission read_private_pages if all subscribers have to have access to the private pages.
It can be done by code or with a plugin (like User Role Editor)

We are creating a multi-vendor marketplace, we need our first vendors only to view the site and upload products to it before we launch it for the public to view. The thing is most plugins like Force Login, takes them to the WP-Admin. We don't want them to see the admin page, just only see the site as a front-end user with no access to see the backend.
Simply > Type Url > Get to a login page Landing Page (like how when you log into FB web there's a login page with info about FB) > Vendors Only can Log in a view the FRONT END only site > When time to launch, login in page comes down and visitors all can view it.
Its default feature of wordpress. do hire some developer if you are not aware of base functionalities.
I have a SilverStripe blog website set up on my domain and hosting. However, for now when people visit my URL I want them to come to a landing coming soon page as I want to do some marketing and create a small database of users prior to launch.
How can I do this without having to remove the SilverStripe Project from the hosting?
I thought it may be as simple as adding a new index.php page. However, even with this it comes straight into my blog website rather than the landing page I made.
One way to do this is by using this SilverStripe Maintenance Mode Module.
This module allows an administrator to put site in offline mode with 503 status to display a 'Coming Soon', 'Under Construction' or 'Down for Maintenance' Page to regular visitors, whilst allowing a logged in admin user to browse and make changes to the site.
You can customise the maintenance page to say whatever you like.
I have a wordpress site.
currently I don't have any login/registration page/form in our website.
I need to create a login page where user can login using an existing google account. it should be the only way to login to our website. Please note, I'm not talking about login page to wordpress admin pages...I'm talking about login page for website.
Steps:
1) user goes to my website
2) click login link
3) navigates to goole sign in page
4) sign in
5) back to the website , the user is logged in
Is there any WP plugin for such case.
TIA, Anna
Bear in mind that the login page for the WP admin pages is the default login screen for users as WP understands them. I don't know what you expect logged-in users to be able to do or see, but you'd have to manage that access at a different level if you're not using the WP users.
If you just want commenting but with Google logins (and others) I'd recommend Disqus.
You need to sign up with Google for this: https://developers.google.com/accounts/ There are several options there like using Google+ log-in, etc.
I haven't seen a wordpress plug-in for it, and even if there is, you'd probably have to register with Google somewhere in the above link because they need to give your specific website permission.
If you want to cut to the chase, look at this link which talks about installing the google button using HTML https://developers.google.com/+/web/signin/add-button
I am trying to make a wordpress site which will allow users to register by themselves and log into the site and have a profile. IS there such a plugin that will allow me to incorporate this into my site? I have looked around and being that I have very little experience with making sites/wordpress I have decided to ask some experts.
I know with wordpress you get a "blog" sort of site, but i'm hoping that if the plug-in i'm looking for exists then I can make my site to look different. The reason I am asking for each individual member to have their own "profile page/ private page" is because I want to be able to upload data to their specific pages and they should be able to see the data without seeing others'.
Thanks for any and all help you can provide me.
If I can't find a suitable solution, I will try to build a site with joomla, I had gone with wordpress because I had heard that it was easier to use.

I want to remove the login page from a Drupal site so that the site is open and public-facing. Only the admin would need to login. Does anyone know how this can be accomplished?
You can't remove the login page, because the administrators will need one to login.
You could, however, give anonymous users access to whatever you like. So that you don't have to be logged in the use any feature of the site. If users are to create content or do other stuff, you will need for them to login, so that you can tell them apart.
Edit
To configure the access control, you'll have to go to admin/user/permissions, where you can select which permissions anonymous users (and other user roles) should have.
Drupal 7
You do not need to remove the login page to make the site open and public facing. Any browser to your site would be given an anonymous user role by default. So any content that is visible to the anonymous role (which can be altered by going to admin/user/permissions) and published can be seen. As long as your website is not in maintenance mode.
If your looking to move the login block that is on the front page of most new Drupal installations you'll have to go to admin/structure/blocks and change the setting there.
I looked through permissions, but nothing helped me to make the main site page available instead of the login page.
Open Features (site.org/features), change Site settings -> Site work mode from Only private access to Open access (moderated registration) (sorry, the names were translated back from Russian).
This has solved my problem. I made private access to the site before and forgot about that. I wanted to disable new users registration (because of mass spam). This can be done through admin/user/settings -> Only site administrators can create new user accounts. [I use Drupal 6, but Drupal 7 works same with this setting]. [UPDATE: it seems, at least for my somewhat outdated setup, that these two Drupal options contradict each other, when I allow only administrators to add users, the private mode turns on automatically :( ]
