How to set TableColumn to the width it needs? [duplicate] - javafx

afaik The TableView in javafx have 2 column resize policies: CONSTRAINED_RESIZE_POLICY and UNCONSTRAINED_RESIZE_POLICY, but I want columns is resized to fit the content of theirs cells
I think it's a simple problem in other platform (like datagridview in C#) but can not resolve

After 3 years I come back to this problem again, some suggestions are calculating the size of text of data in each cell (it's complicated depending on font size, font family, padding...)
But I realize that when I click on the divider on table header, it's resized fit to content as I want. So I dig into JavaFX source code I finally found resizeColumnToFitContent method in TableViewSkin, but it is protected method, we can resolve by reflection:

Note that we call "tableView.getItems()" so we have to call this function after setItems()

After testing the previous solutions I finally found one that worked for me.
So here is mine (call the method after inserting the data into table):

I think just by overriding a call back function that returns true will solve your problem it will disable the re-sizing of columns and all columns will be re-sized to fit the content of their cells.

If you want that only one column fills the remaining width of a table, I have found a pretty straight forward solution, which is short and does not require the hacky reflection solution described above:

I have used the other solutions on this question, and it works pretty good. However, the downside of this is when the width of the TableView is greater than the required width of the TableColumns together. I have created a hack to solve this problem, and it works OK:

I implemented a solution that it's fairly more complicated than the ones that I found here, but that allows a specific column to be resized by double clicking on the header, while still letting the user resize columns manually.
This is achieved by listening to click events on the header of the table (TableHeaderRow). When a double click occurs, the specific column header is found by matching the mouse event X and Y.
Note: to make this work it's necessary that each column has an ID set.

I have implemented a solution for TreeTableView. It is still in evolution but it manifests now promising results. Hereafter a description of the solution.
In the control skin class, I added to the control children the TreeTableView and an invisible VBox. A cell factory provide derived cells to the target TreeTableColumn. The derived cells wrap a Label node which is added or removed to the invisible VBox according to the empty property, and which its prefWidth is set according to the cell width. The cells make use of:
getProperties().put(Properties.DEFER_TO_PARENT_PREF_WIDTH, Boolean.TRUE)
I override the cell's computePrefWidth() method as follow:

Adding more items to page (pagination javafx)

i am using kotlin to create some small application with it, and tornadofx, however i am unfamiliar with how some of the javafx things translate to kotlin.

Here is a solution for dynamic pages for pagination. Your main problem was that tab panes only hold one child pane/component. The answer is to nest your buttons in a pane. I haven't tested this hard for edge cases or anything, so this is more proof-of-concept. You'll have to account for those if they come up.
Side Notes: As explained above, this is also why your "Close" button isn't appearing. Also, when I was testing your code I noticed the style wasn't implemented unless I clicked a button in the pane. Maybe it would work if you used a stylesheet, created a cssclass, and added that class to your tabpane (Don't forget to import your stylesheet if you choose to do this).

Showing texts over the face of a Box based on the visible area on zooming in/out

I have a sample 3D application (built by taking reference from the Javafx sample 3DViewer) which has a table created by laying out Boxes and Panes:
The table is centered wrt (0,0,0) coordinates and camera is at -z position initially.
It has the zoom-in/out based on the camera z position from the object.
On zooming in/out the object's boundsInParent increases/decreases i.e. area of the face increases/decreases. So the idea is to put more text when we have more area (always confining within the face) and lesser text or no text when the face area is too less. I am able to to do that using this node hierarchy:
and resizing the Pane (and managing the vBox and number of texts in it) as per Box on each zoom-in/out.
Now the issue is that table boundsInParent is giving incorrect results (table image showing the boundingBox off at the top) whenever a text is added to the vBox for the first time only. On further zooming-in/out gives correct boundingBox and does not go off.

Two things:
The table3D's boundsInParent is not updated properly when texts are added for the first time.
What would be the right way of putting texts on 3D nodes? I am having to manipulate a whole lot to bring the texts as required.

For the first question, about the "jump" that can be noticed just when after scrolling a new text item is laid out:
After digging into the code, I noticed that the UIPane3D has a VBox textPane that contains the different Text nodes. Every time updateContent is called, it tries to add a text node, but it checks that the vbox's height is always lower than the pane's height, or else the node will be removed:

While this is basically correct, when you add a node to the scene, you can't get textPane.getHeight() immediately, as it hasn't been laid out yet, and you have to wait until the next pulse. This is why the next time you scroll, the height is correct and the bounding box is well placed.
One way to force the layout and get the correct height of the textNode is by forcing css and a layout pass:

Note that:
This method [applyCss] does not normally need to be invoked directly but may be used in conjunction with Parent.layout() to size a Node before the next pulse, or if the Scene is not in a Stage.
For the second question, about a different solution to add Text to 3D Shape.
Indeed, placing a (2D) text on top of a 3D shape is quite difficult, and requires complex maths (that are done quite nicely in the project, by the way).
There is an alternative avoiding the use of 2D nodes directly.
Precisely in a previous question, I "wrote" into an image, that later on I used as the material diffuse map of a 3D shape.
The built-in 3D Box places the same image into every face, so that wouldn't work. We can implement a 3D prism, or we can make use of the CuboidMesh node from the FXyz3D library.

I haven't played around with the number of text nodes that can be added to the VBox, the font size nor with an strategy to avoid generating images on every scroll: only when the text changes this should be done. So with the current approach is quite slow, but it can be improved notably as there are only three possible images for each box.

JavaFX TableColumn resize to fit cell content

I'm looking for a way to resize a TableColumn in a TableView so that all of the content is visible in each cell (i.e. no truncation).
I noticed that double clicking on the column divider's does auto fit the column to the contents of its cells. Is there a way to trigger this programmatically?
Digging through the javafx source, I found that the actual method called when you click TableView columns divider is

Since it's protected, You cannot call it from e.g. tableView.getSkin(), but You can always extend the TableViewSkin overriding only resizeColumnToFitContent method and make it public.

The current versions of JavaFX (e.g. 15-ea+1) resize table columns, if the prefWidth was never set (or is set to 80.0F, see TableColumnHeader enter link description here).
In Java 16 we can extend TableView to use a custom TableViewSkin which in turn uses a custom TableColumnHeader

Making a Grid cell editable based on ModelData in GXT 3.0.1

I want to make a Grid Cell editable based on the data in that cell.
The cell accepts a String. so, i am adding a Text editor as follow:

Then, i tried with setting editor to TextField with Custom TextInputCell, but this does not accepts HTML.

Use AS3 to write IOS like slide up menu

In an AS3 mobile App, I would like to have a menu of buttons or icons that slides up from the bottom. Using a SlideViewTransition, I can get part of what I want.

This works, but it does not do two things that I need to do.
1) I want the new transition to only go up 1/2 of the screen so that the top part of the screen displays the view underneath.
2) I want the new view that covers to be partially transparent. By setting the alpha of the incoming view's contentGroup background alpha, the new view is transparent as it comes in. But, once it covers the view underneath the view becomes opaque.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I would have a view slide up 1/2 way and be transparent? I have no idea where to start, view skinning?, or subclass transition?, or use something in flash namespace instead of a spark view.
I decided it would be simplest to just use the lower level ActionScript and do the animation myself using methods that are normally applied to a Sprite, but in this case use a VGroup so that I could add spark elements to it. The following is the base class I wrote.
