How to install azuremlsdk for R on rocker/tidyverse:latest? - r

I try to install azuremlsdk for R on rocker/tidyverse:latest image:
dir.create("library")
install.packages("azuremlsdk", repos="https://cloud.r-project.org", lib="library")
azuremlsdk::install_azureml()
However, I get the following error on the last line:
Error in loadNamespace(name) : there is no package called ‘azuremlsdk’
Calls: :: ... loadNamespace -> withRestarts -> withOneRestart ->
doWithOneRestart
Why does it happen and how to fix it?
P.S. I must install everything inside library because otherwise the folder is not writable.
If you can suggest a docker image that includes R and AzureML SDK for R, then I'd appreciate as well.

Step-by-step instructions for installing the Azure ML SDK for R:
Step1: Install Conda
If you do not have Conda already installed on your machine, you will first need to install it, since the Azure ML R SDK uses reticulate to bind to the Python SDK. We recommend installing Miniconda, which is a smaller, lightweight version of Anaconda. Choose the 64-bit binary for Python 3.5 or later.
Step2: Install the azuremlsdk R package
You will need remotes to install azuremlsdk from the GitHub repo.

Installing local binary packages using R CMD INSTALL on a Mac

I came across a package that is not available on CRAN. I tried to install the package using:
Packages & Data > Package Installer > Local Binary Package > At User
Level > [FileName.tgz] > Install...
This didn't work and I am now trying to use the R CMD INSTALL command. However, it seems I need to run that command in the command line interface but I cannot get it to install properly.
The package I'm trying to install is called gEcon. It can be found here. In particular, I am getting the following error message after "installing" the package:
Error: package or namespace load failed for ‘gEcon’:
package ‘gEcon’ was installed by an R version with different internals; it needs to be reinstalled for use with this R version
I assume it's the way I'm installing it.

You're going to need to install Xcode apparently, because you've got to install this from source per these directions:
Now, you've gotta update R to the latest stable release, or if you prefer you can find the exact minimum newest version needed for gEcon.
After upgrading R you can complete the installation from source.
Original answer to original question:
Two things:
To access the command line and use R CMD on an Apple computer, please use the terminal.app app. Please see this for more details.
An easier and probably better approach is to install your package from the author's Github (or BitBucket, etc) repository using devtools::install_github or just use devtools::install on the downloaded source project.

How to install Tensorflow for R

I had Tensorflow installed with Anaconda. Now I want use it in R and I need to reinstall Tensorflow, because the note here
NOTE: You should NOT install TensorFlow with Anaconda as there are
issues with the way Anaconda builds the python shared library that
prevent dynamic linking from R.
I already tried to uninstall from Anaconda and install with pip but its came to the same place in anaconda directory. Tesorflow is working from terminal but in R shows Error: Command failed (1)
Anybody can help me to how I can solve the problem? Should I uninstall anaconda and install Tensorflow using pip?
You have several options on what to do. Probably the cleanest one is to install a system-wide python (if not installed yet) and then create a virtual environment. This basically takes your system python binaries and moves them to its own compartment where everythign is isolated from the rest, incl. anaconda. Once you are inside an activated virtual environment you can install all the necessary Python appendages for TensorFlow. Once that is done, make sure you set up a correct environmental PATH for TensorFlow from where R can reach it:
Sys.setenv(TENSORFLOW_PYTHON="/path/to/virtualenv/python/binary")
devtools::install_github("rstudio/tensorflow")
Example of the path to where you installed the virtual environment project would be, I think, something like ~/minion/medvedi/venv_medvedi/bin/python.

my suggestion is to install anaconda and create an environment called "r-reticulate".
you can do it using anaconda navigator or
reticulate::conda_create(envname = "r-reticulate")
then to check that env detected by reticulate, use reticulate::conda_python().it must return directory of python.exe for your env.
after that you can install tensorflow by install_tensorflow(). [not working in my case]
so I install the tesnorflow from CMD.
follow these steps:
open the cmd :]
activate the r-reticulate env using conda activate r-reticulate (you may need your directory to conda directory if you did not add conda to your PATH)
use : conda install -c anaconda tensorflow
now in R, you can use TensorFlow.
for installing Keras, you can use pip install Keras. [i tried install_keras() function after the installation of tensorflow, but it ruined my TensorFlow installation also]
Eventually I found the best and fast method to do it in R:

How to use R CMD Install without dependencies check?

I'm running R CMD INSTALL --build package on a windows computer. My package imports a couple of other packages which themselves depend on some more packages. I have all dependencies installed in the local r_libs folder and everything works.
Now sometimes I have the my package source code on a different windows computer. On this computer I don't have all the dependency packages installed.
When I try to use R CMD INSTALL --build package, I get the obvious "ERROR: dependencies 'package a', 'package b', etc, are not available for package".
My question is: Can I build the package using R CMD INSTALL --build without the dependency checks and without removing the Import and Depends entries in the DESCRIPTION file?
After consulting --help, I tried the --no-test-load option but no luck.
I reckon you want to build a .zip binary version of the package on a computer where not all dependencies are installed. And I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you, as this won't be possible.
Building a binary package is done in two steps: first the package is installed from source (that's why you have to use R CMD INSTALL and then the created binaries are zipped in a convenient format for installation on a windows machine. The dependencies are checked at time of installation from source, and any missing dependencies will throw the error you're facing.
As R needs information from the dependencies at time of installation from source, you can't get around installing them before building the whole thing. This also makes sense. An installed package in R contains a set of .rds files which contain package information in a more convenient format for R. In order to create that information for the NAMESPACE file, it needs to be able to access the packages from which functions are imported. If not, it can't construct the correct information about the namespace.
So your only option is to install the dependencies on the computer you use to build. And if you actually want to use the package on that computer, you'll have to install those dependencies anyway.

R install package RevoScaleR

In trying to install package "RevoScaleR", I get the following error. I have tried installing this package with various versions of R but get the same error every time. Does anyone have any idea why?
install.packages("RevoScaleR")
Warning in install.packages :
package ‘RevoScaleR’ is not available (for R version 3.1.2)

Just to update this post,to install the RevoScaleR package you need to install Microsoft R client, see here for details:

R Client includes the ScaleR (rx[…]) functions in the RevoScaleR package. I don't believe this package is open source so isn't available on cran, install.packages() therefore won't work.
The RevoScaleR package is only available if you install the Microsoft R Client or if you use Microsoft RStudio Server via Azure. After you install this you don't need to do install.packages("RevoScaleR") for it is already installed.
R Studio will automatically have the R version [64-bit] C:\Program Files\Microsoft\R Client\R_SERVER under "Global options"

I am not sure what R version you are currently using but the latest stable version is 3.1.2. If the package installation warning is telling that the package you're trying to install is not available, that basically means that the package developer has not yet made a version of the package that is compatible with the R version you're currently running.
If you really need to use this package (if your work heavily depends on it and you are on some kind of deadline) I would advise to install an earlier version of R (like 3.1.1 or 3.1) and do your work with it.

You just have to set the propper CRAN repos:
options("repos" = c(CRAN = "https://mran.microsoft.com/"))
and then
install.packages("RevoScaleR")
will run properly.

It's not on CRAN. It's usually installed as part of the RStudio install process. I'd suggest to re-install RStudio.
Another possibility is offered by the RStudio support:
1.) The easiest workaround is to just install the package manually from its location in Program Files - you can zip up the C:\Program
Files\RStudio\R\library\manipulate folder and install it using
install.packages() - this will get the manipulate package installed
and running.
If that doesn't solve your issues, you should post at the RStudio support forum.
