Why when creating a button with a script in the function _ready, these buttons cannot be resized. (And position)

ps. The buttons are placed in a ScrollContainer in which the vBoxContainer.
Container controls will auto resize and position children controls. Try using the Button's size flags to suggest it's size.
You can also compose ui with multiple levels of other Container controls such as V and HBoxContainer using size flags. This will give you finer control over the whole look of the ui. This will also make it easier to add controls later that will adaptively resize.
You can also set rect_min_size and the Container will not resize it any smaller than min size. However, that may break dynamic layout.

I followed the tutorial on creating a popup for an add-on in Firefox, and it worked great.
The issue I'm having now is that the popup it creates doesn't change size to fit the content I add to it. Instead, it adds scroll bars.
So, how do I change the size of a Firefox Add-on SDK popup to show all content?
You do have to deal with that yourself.
If you already know the desired size when creating the panel, you can pass the height and width as properties of the object to the Panel() constructor.
After a panel is created, its size can be changed by setting the height and width properties on it.
height and width values are numbers in pixels.

Though the tutorial and docs never say it, the height and width of a panel always defaults to the same small size.
To change it you can use the height and width parameters for the panel class.

I am waiting to expand and contract a linear layout.
The linear layout height will be set to 0dp pixels in the beginning and once a user selects a certain button then that layout height will be expanded to MATCH_PARENT.
Once the user selects the button again the linear layout is given a height of 0dp again.

If you are resizing the grid manually, you must resize both the grid and data-area height. If you have a tool bar, you may also need to take this into account. Try this when you are resizing your grid:

The Flex Canvas container is limited to 10,000x10,000 pixels. Yet, I've seen Flex apps that are scrolling way more than 10,000 pixels. Any idea how this can be done?
The content I want to scroll is in pieces already, but I need to add those pieces to something that can scroll vertically more than 10,000 pixels.
Depending on what you actually want to display you may be able to split your content into tiles. This is how Google Maps works, every time the map is moved the program determines which tiles are visible on the screen and loads them in. Any markers or overlays that are on the map are notified that the map has moved and determine where their new location is. If their location is off the screen they can be removed from the canvas. For example, the width of all the tiles at zoom level 20 on Google Maps is (256 pixels * 2^20) which equals 268,435,456 total pixels.
Essentially you just need to create a special Sprite that keeps track of the actual x,y location it is supposed to be positioned at. Any time the container moves you simply iterate through all of the child objects and determine where to put them.

So if you have a canvas that is positioned at (100, 20000), a sprite that is positioned at (300, 20100), and a window that is (640,408), you would place it at (200, 100) and it would be visible on the screen.
Instead of just setting visible to true or false a better approach would be to remove the items from the canvas entirely when they are not within the bounds of the view.
I am trying to attach some of my actionscript class, inherited from Sprite, to my Flex application by attaching it to a UIComponent, then add UIComponent to a panel. However, the size of my Sprite class appears to be larger than the panel. So, I try to resize it using DisplayObject.scale property, but I need to know the size of my container. Since I try to make my code reusable, I figure that I should let my Sprite class handle the resize by getting it via its parent property (let's say, I can resize it by set
this.scaleX = this.parent.Width/this.width or something like this)
However, my Sprite class's parent, which is the UIComponent, has width/height of 0.
So, my question is:
1) Is there any better way to resize DisplayObject class to fit its container when attached to Flex object?
2) If you know, why my UIComponent's size remain 0 and my DisplayObject still appears at its full size?

I think it's the other way around: the parent should set the child element size while rendering. You can override the updateDisplayList(unscaledWidth:Number, unscaledHeight:Number) method to set the size of your loader child. See Advanced Visual Components in ActionScript.
I guess that the size of your ui is not really 0. The size is updated later after the layout and rendering process. So you have to wait for the layout to complete after adding a component to stage.

You can try to access it in a hacked way (using the mx_internal namespace): get width of dynamically created custom uicomponent
