Skew div with pure CSS and allow image to fill skewed area - css

I have a small Problem. I am trying to make the structure from image. I have the CSS and HTML
.mask-skew {
transform: skewX(-10deg);
/*width: 300px;*/
height: 390px;
overflow: hidden;
margin: 5px;
/*border: 2px solid orange;*/
}
.art-skew {
transform: skewX(10deg);
position: relative;
left: -50%;
}
<div class="row flex--row advertising-row">
<div class="col-xs-12 col-sm-4 mask-skew">
<img class="art-skew" src="templates/Stordeur/themes/stordeur/images/BarbourSS18Banner_1140x392px.jpg" alt="">
</div>
<div class="col-xs-12 col-sm-4 mask-skew">
<img class="art-skew" src="templates/Stordeur/themes/stordeur/images/TeaserWellensteynKopie.jpg" alt="">
</div>
<div class="col-xs-12 col-sm-4 mask-skew">
<img class="art-skew" src="templates/Stordeur/themes/stordeur/images/template_teaser_images_fjallraven.jpg" alt="">
</div>
</div>
But the result is from this Image
How can I obtain the result from first image. The left and right image has straight edge.

You could basicly, skew links and then unskew img.
overflow:hidden will need to be used to cover the whole screen/link.
example
body {margin:0;}
div {
overflow:hidden;
}
nav {
display:flex;
height:100vh;
margin:0 -10vw
}
nav a {
flex:1;
height:100%;
transform:skew(-15deg);
overflow:hidden;
}
nav a + a {
margin-left:3vh;
}
nav a img {
width:140%;
height:100%;
display:block;
/* optionnal */
/*object-fit: cover;
object-position:center center;*/
transform:skew(15deg);
margin:0 -20%; /* in relation with width */
}
<div>
<nav>
<img src="http://www.intrawallpaper.com/static/images/desktop-backgrounds-8656-8993-hd-wallpapers_js7gwWA.jpg">
<img src="https://images.wallpaperscraft.com/image/pool_skyscraper_hotel_124522_1600x1200.jpg">
<img src="https://wallpaperscraft.com/image/dark_background_colorful_paint_47176_300x188.jpg">
</nav>
</div>
object-fit can also help to make sure image fills entire link. it will be clipped.
For the text, it can be added aside img. and centered via flex. pen to play with : https://codepen.io/gc-nomade/pen/vaJzaM
if you want to use background-image and a link on top of it, you may inspire yourself from https://codepen.io/gc-nomade/pen/vGvRPZ/ (turn titles into links)
Both example skew the container, then apply the opposite skew value to unskew content.
Straight edges are made from letting content overflowing but hidden outside edges.

CSS - How to position multiple images

I'm looking to learn how I can position images in CSS, multiple ones, without affecting my footers position, size, etc.
I coded some CSS I thought would work, but it messed up my footers position. (It wouldn't stay at the bottom.)
So, I fixed that issue but found the code I wrote for the image position messed with the footers position.
I don't really know how, but I would like to have my images positioned, perhaps by px/space.. they just need to look good in a row spaced.
The example is in red, is how I want it to look.
look here for an example of how I want it to look.
HTML
<div class="batesimg">
<p><strong>Bates</p></strong>
<div class="shadow"> <!-- makes a shadow, surrounding the characters picture. -->
<img src="images/bates.png" alt="Bates" width="150" height="150"> <!-- defines the img -->
CSS
/* Bates profile picture. */
.batesimg { /* or whatever class name works for you */
position: auto;
left:250px;
top:250px;
margin-right: 500px;
}
NOTE, the css above isn't positioning the image how i want it, showed in the image example, can someone help me positiong the image like i have it in my example image?
Thanks!
You want to repeat same type of pattern of name,img and descriptions. We will call this 'card'. Now you have two problems in hand.
1) Placing multiple cards in page. For this use some layout like flexbox.
2) Setting inside of card properly..
/*1st Problem*/
#flex-container{
display: flex;
flex-wrap:wrap;
width: 600px;
justify-content: space-around;
}
#flex-container>div.card{
flex-grow:0;
flex-shrink:0;
}
/*1st Problem ends*/
/*2nd Problem*/
.card{
width: 200px;
height:calc(200px + 2em);
}
.card>.name ,.card>.desc{
width: 100%;
text-align: center;
}
.card>div.img{
position: relative;
margin-left: 25px;
width: 150px;
height: 150px;
border-radius: 100%;
}
/*2nd Problem ends*/
.card:nth-child(1) div.img{background-color: red;}
.card:nth-child(2) div.img{background-color: green;}
.card:nth-child(3) div.img{background-color: blue;}
.card:nth-child(4) div.img{background-color: yellow;}
/*Centering Content*/
#flex-container{
margin: 0 auto;
/*top,bottom both zero.. and left,right both auto..
handling margin is complicated..read about them
*/
}
<div id="flex-container">
<div class="card">
<div class="name">Name1</div>
<div class="img"></div>
<div class="desc">Desc1</div>
</div>
<div class="card">
<div class="name">Name2</div>
<div class="img"></div>
<div class="desc">Desc2</div>
</div>
<div class="card">
<div class="name">Name3</div>
<div class="img"></div>
<div class="desc">Desc3</div>
</div>
<div class="card">
<div class="name">Name4</div>
<div class="img"></div>
<div class="desc">Desc4</div>
</div>
</div>

How to maintain div wrapper aspect ratio?

I am having an issue with my divs moving when the page is resized. If you look at the plunker you will see a Header with boxes below. If you resize the workspace by dragging the scroll bar to the left you will see how the page should be. I tried wrapping all items in 1 div named wrapper and tried both relative and absolute positioning with a min-width. I also did the same for body. After inspecting the page with firebug looks like the html tag should have sizing or positioning. That didn't work either (see below). I would like to be able to minimize my screen to 50% and maximize to 250% and keep the same initial layout as if my screen is at 95% based on the wrapper. Any ideas?
Here's plnkr
<html>
body, html{margin:0px; padding:0px; width:100%; min-width: 900px; position:relative}
div.wrapper{ width:95%; min-width: 900px; padding-left: 6px; padding-top:5px; position: relative; }
<body>
<div class="wrapper" >
<div id="header">
<img align="left" style="padding-left:10px; padding-top:5px; width: 80px; height: 65px"><h1> Header</h1>
</div>
<div class="left"></div>
<div class="right"></div>
</div> <!--end wrapper -->
</body>
</html>
you could use percentage and fix min-wheight + set overflow to auto (looks like frameset .. not so nice actually)
Or you could try to relay on box-sizing and use vertical padding on percentage value(it will use parent's width as reference).
floatting pseudo can then, be used and will allow divs to grow taller instead showing a scrollbar.
. {
box-sizing:border-box;
}
.wrapper {
max-width:1300px;
margin:auto; /* ?*/
}
.wrapper #header ~ div {
border:double;
margin:0.4% 0.2%;
padding:5px;
}
#header, .right, .rightbottom {
overflow:hidden;
}
.left {
float:left;
width:30%;
}
.left:before {
content:'';
float:left;
padding-top:204.5%;
}
.right:before, .rightbottom:before {
content:'';
padding-top:30%;
float:left;
}
.wrapper #header ~ div.rightbottom {
border:solid 1px;
}
.rightbottom:before {
padding-top:60%;
}
<div class="wrapper" >
<div id="header">
<img align="left" style="padding-left:10px; padding-top:5px; width: 80px; height: 65px"><h1> Header</h1>
</div>
<div class="left">
</div>
<div class="right" >
<div class="gridStyle" data-ng-grid="gridOptions1">grid</div>
</div>
<div class="rightbottom">right bottom</div>
</div>

I'm not too sure of what kind of behavior you look for once there is real stuff in your pages.
If you want the header and the two divs to always have their own row, perhaps you could contain them each in divs that are set to width: 100%?

Stretch div to bottom of screensize, but allow scrolldown

On load I'd like to load the topsection div with a bg image and have it take up the entire screen, but then I have content below it which you can scroll down to. The div should size itself to the window screen only on load and not remain like that on scrolldown. I cannot give the div a position:absolute; either.
I'm banging my head on this one. I've tried a ton of different things
Here is my html:
<div id="topsection" class="row bgimage ">
<div id="logomain" class="mainlogo ">
<div class=" floorplanbuttoncontainer helvetical">
<ul>
<li>Residence A - Duplex</li>
<li>
Residence D - Simplex</li>
</ul>
</div><!-- end floorplanbuttoncontainer -->
</div><!-- end logomain -->
Here is my css for the background image:
.bgimage {
background: url(images/image.jpg) no-repeat center center fixed;
background-size: cover;
.mainlogo {
margin:0 auto;text-align:center;width:100%;height:488px; /*I think this height is messing things up */
background-image:url(images/picture.png);background-repeat:no-repeat;
background-position: center;
}
In order to set a div to take up the entire screen you need to set the height of the body and html element to 100%. You also have to remove the padding and margin from them. Then you create a wrapper class to encase your content and assign it your background-image. Then all ya' gotta do is create the content below your full screen image to scroll into!
Fiddle
Edit
If you run the snippet below and hit full page you can see how it works.
body, html {
height: 100%;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
}
.wrapper {
min-height: 100%;
background: red;
}
.full {
width: 100%;
}
.footerThing {
width: 100%;
height: 200px;
background: blue;
}
<div class="wrapper">
<div class="full">
asd
</div>
</div>
<div class="footerThing">
</div>
Modern browsers: a simple way is to use vh units to get the Viewport Height
Just to simplify: jsBin demo
<div id="home" class="container full">
<h1>HOME</h1>
</div>
<div id="about" class="container">
<h1>About us</h1>
<p>Content</p>
</div>
CSS:
.container { min-height:400px; }
.full { height:100vh; }
Crossbrowser: use % instead of vh and simply add html, body{height:100%;} jsBin demo

Div not properly wrapping around contents (image) - Includes margin, possible float/Bootstrap issues

How to size/wrap a div container around an image inside It? Where float: right and margin-left: auto are potentially causing issues.
I'm struggling to get a div to be sized by wrapping properly around the image inside it. Please have a look at the example I'm referring to here:
Link to Example
(Might be worth playing around with the window size to help explain my problem)
I'm practicing with Bootstrap for the first time. The red blocks on each side are grid blocks 1 and 12, with the blue, and green sections filling the remaining 10. The big orange rectangles are responsive images that I want to be kept central spaced 20px apart at all times.
Using Chrome's "Inspect Element" (or similar) - If you inspect the orange rectangle on the right hand side, and have a look at the container div (class="container-img-r") - This div is wrapping around the orange image exactly how I wanted (albeit including the invisible border). But I'm not having much luck achieving the same result with the div container for the orange image on the left side (it still fills the blue parent element)
I've played around with different options for float/margins/position but can't seem to crack it.
Here's the CSS I have for the relevent content:
.container-img-l {
/* float:right; ??? Nothing I tried here seemed to make a difference */
}
.container-img-r {
float:left;
}
.item-pos-l {
margin-left:auto;
border-right:10px solid transparent; /* Margins just collapsed when resizing window */
height:323px;
width:510px;
}
.item-pos-r {
float:left;
border-left:10px solid transparent;
height:323px;
width:510px;
}
The reason for me wanting the div to accurately wrap around the responsive images is that I want to overlay some more CSS content over the images, scaling/re-positioning automatically as the window/device size changes (Click here and you'll clearly see where I'm hoping to implement this responsive style).
Maybe there are clashes with the Bootstrap CSS at play but I'm out of ideas.
Your first link doesn't remotely look like the html you want to make responsive. It would be best to learn responsive and fluid (no pixels heights or widths if possible) css before attempting to modify a framework you are unfamiliar with. Also, you have an error in your html - validate it to make sure you've closed all your elements. Also indent and comment all your code and avoid the use of inline styles.

How do I float some text and an image at the top of the page?

It should be very simple, but I am, so it's not ...
The first thing on the page, right after <body>, I want a sort of banner, containing some text which is left aligned, and an image which is right aligned. It should occupy te full width of the page.
Can you do that without knowing the width og the image?
Yes, put image in one div, and text in another, define "float: right" property for the div with the image, and "float: left" for div with the text in CSS
<div class="div1"><img src=...></div>
<div class="div2">text</div>
<style type="text/css">
.div1 {
float: right;
}
.div2 {
float: left;
}
</style>
<div id="banner">
<div style="float: left; width: 50%;">
left - just put your text here
</div>
<div style="float: right; width: 50%;">
right - just put your image here
</div>
</div>
You may also want to use a clearfix (google it) technique to ensure the banner div always has height no matter how big the image is.
Here's a fiddle : http://jsfiddle.net/KaHjd/1/
I've assumed that you want the image right aligned as well.
#header {
overflow:auto;
}
#branding {
float: left;
padding: 10px;
background: #00AA00;
}
#logo {
float:right;
padding: 10px;
background: #aa0000;
overflow:auto;
}
#logo img {
float:right;
}
<div id='header'>
<div id='branding'>
some text
</div>
<div id='logo'>
<img src='http://placekitten.com/200/100'>
</div>
</div>
Of course we can. But your image must be small enough in order for your text not to overflow the banner.
HTML
<div class="banner">
<span>Text goes here</span>
<img src="" alt="" />
</div>
CSS
.banner { overflow: hidden; width: 100%; }
.banner span { float: left; }
.banner img { float: right; }
