Adding Google Analytics tracking scripts to gmail signatures - google-analytics

I'm trying to get a simple "Let us know how satisfied you are with this email: ★★★★★".
I am trying to see if I can do this with Gmail, and Google Analytics. It seems though that Gmail doesn't allow this.
My idea was to have perhaps 5 <img> tags at the bottom, each one a little ★, with a track value of 1 to 5. They would have a href leading to our website with perhaps a "Thank you for your help!" message. In there I would use GA to track the value incoming from the image that was clicked.
Is there a built in way to do this at all?

Here may be a solution: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/gmail/ut19b36NvKk/wFOfZkWX19EJ
Ones u have the 5 images just set an href to yoursite.com/thanks?start=X and set the X from 1 to 5 depending on the number of star. You can later just add the login on your site to send a GA event with this information if the param is detected (easily done with GTM)

Google Analytics not tracking Google Ads and UTMs clicks correctly

I've identified a discrepancy between Google Ads clicks and Analytics sessions in Paid Search (about twice more clicks than sessions). So I contacted Google Ads support and after a long conversation, they send me an email saying that my website structure uses redirections and it's making it lose parameters, and that I had to contact a developer to solve that problem because they don't give assistance on it. What exactly they told me to tell the developer was that:
Loss of parameters by redirection
The website trendotrends.com is not holding navigation parameters
because of the structure in which it was developed.
To verify this redirection, simply replicate the following steps: I
accessed the link
https://trendotrends.com/products/running-shoes?variant=15320930779194
After full site loading, I added the & gclid = Tester123 parameter to
the URL (in the browser, so the final URL was
https://trendotrends.com/products/running-shoes?variant=15320930779194&gclid=Tester123)
and hit Enter To understand if there is a redirect, the normal
behavior would be for the URL to remain the same (with & gclid =
Tester123 at the end), but in this case, the parameter disappears (and
hence the assignment) This link was just an example, which can be
verified in several other products of the site.
They also said I can't use manual tagging (UTMs) instead of automatic tagging in Google Ads because those redirections are also going to spoil the UTMs.
I don't use any redirections in my website and I have also tested with UTMs and there's also a discrepancy in google analytics data for that.
But before I contact a developer and invest on this fix, I would like to know if anyone had experienced that? If Googles answer fits this problem? And even if is there a way to fix it without being an expert.
Thanks in advance.
The issue here isn't really that there's a redirect (301), but a state change. There is javascript on the page that essentially rewrites the URL before the GA code can parse it.
Are you able to change to a different theme and test if this happens with that theme?

Google Tag Manager - Tag Firing Way too Many Times

We are having an issue with our tracking on www.x3tradesmen.com where a Google Tag Manager tag is firing way too many times and we cannot determine why...
We only have one website event tag linked to Google Analytics called Form Submit and typically we would receive between 2-10 Form Submit events per day at the most, however, recently we have noticed that the tag is firing 1000's of times sporadically and we cannot pinpoint the issue. We have also noticed that our users have drastically increased for short time periods (minutes/hours). We typically only get 40-80 users per day on our website but we saw a massive spike of around 400 users in less than one hour once.
We recently added the facebook pixel via GTM and that is really the only change that we have made and now we are seeing these issues. Does anyone know of any common reasons to why this would be behaving this way or can anyone see any major issues with our implementation of GA or GTM on our website that would cause this?
I know this information is vague, so please let me know if there is specific information that would help identify the issue.
Thanks in advance!

I presume it is the FB pixel - Facebook automatically collects information in addition to what you have configured yourself and uses post/submit events to send them. You can disable that behaviour as per documentation and see if it makes a difference:
Automatic Configuration
The Facebook pixel will send button click and
page metadata (such as data structured according to Opengraph or
Schema.org formats) from your website to improve your ads delivery and
measurement and automate your pixel setup. To configure the Facebook
Pixel to not send this additional information, in the Facebook Pixel
Base code, add fbq('set', 'autoConfig', 'false', '')
above the init call.
I had a similar issue where suddenly additional submit events turned up in the GTM preview pane that I finally tracked down to FB, so there is a good chance that yours is the same problem.

why track email opens as events and not as pageviews

Since a while I've been playing around with the Analytics Measurement Protocol, and also used it in some test emails as described in this article:
https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/protocol/v1/email
But what puzzles me is that Google recommends to track email views as events, not as page views.
From one side I can see the point, but on the other hand in Google Analytics I get an alert stating that I have events without page views.
Can anyone answer me why it should be done that way, or what arguments are there that speak for it? Otherwise I could also just use the Measurement Protocol to send a page view.
I do not know why Google recommends this, but I rather suspect it's because you will skew some of your metrics if you use pageviews - an opened e-mail would count as a bounce, which in turn would bring down average time on site, pages per session etc. If you make opened e-Mail an event you can avoid this.

Twice GTM code installed, does GA count hits twice?

If a website has two GTM code installed, how does GA count traffic? Does it mean the traffic we see in GA report is duplicate?
They are different containers but same GA property.
Thank you!
If both containers have the same GA account and both populate on the page (e.g. have the same rules), then yes, you'll have double the pageviews.
Well, first of all, why do you have 2 GTM codes?
When you set up a container and install the GTM on every page, you must also set up GA tracking as one of your tags on the Tag Manager container settings, when you set this up, you will have to choose which pages you wish to track, most likely, you need to select "All pages". With the live preview you can verify your tag is working and you can go to the GA real time traffic dashboard to make sure data is being recorded appropriately, of course, depending on your traffic, it might not be easy to tell if you are double-counting.
I guess I would say if you set up your Universal Analytics tag properly, you shouldn't have duplicate data...
Back to my question, maybe I can help you better if I know why exactly you have 2 GTM codes?
:)

Tracking email clicks with tagged links (could be google analytics or custom)

I'm trying to track a series of emails and where users are clicking. I really only have google analytics to work with. I'm attempting to use google analytics to tag my links but all I'm getting is the campaign, all the other tags are coming up (not set).
example of the links I am using:
http://www.example.com/en/secured/rewards?entity_id=<%~user%>&pw=<%~pw%>&utm_source=confirmEmail1&utm_medium=email&utm_content=button1&utm_campaign=ssconfirmEmail1
This part of the link HAS to be there.
http://www.example.com/en/secured/rewards?entity_id=<%~user%>&pw=<%~pw%>
I believe something with the entity_id and pw tags are creating a conflict with google's tags. Currently I'm testing weather doing this to the link will work or not.
http://www.example.com/en/secured/rewards?utm_source=confirmEmail1&utm_medium=email&utm_content=button1&utm_campaign=ssconfirmEmail1&entity_id=<%~user%>&pw=<%~pw%>
My question is, first: Does anyone know a reason why this would be happening?
second (forget google analytics and do something custom): I know I could track the link by creating a redirect through a page and then having it redirect to the correct url, but I'm too new at this to know if I can carry the entity_id and pw through the redirect. If so, how?
Thanks!
Since the link was picking up everything but the content, I just eliminated that and changed the source to what I was using in the content. It's working now
http://www.example.com/en/secured/rewards?entity_id=<%~user%>&pw=<%~pw%>&utm_source=button1&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ssconfirmEmail1
