I followed this setup to authenticate my extension with firebase.
https://github.com/firebase/quickstart-js/tree/master/auth/chromextension
I want to push data and receive messages from the firebase db. I registered on the gcm client app. Not sure how to proceed next.
You will find this quickstart helpful. Specifically take a look at https://github.com/firebase/quickstart-js/blob/master/database/scripts/main.js
.. it will show you how to go about Firebase architecture in a JS environment like Chrome.

I want to send notifications to a set of users whose details I have in a CSV, in my research, I've found that using topics is a way to go about this.
i want to accomplish what this link is doing but using firebase console. is there a way to import registration ids and group them in the console itself?
There's no way to register an FCM token for a topic in the Firebase console.
I usually have a small Node.js script locally that uses the Admin SDK to register a token to a topic, which isn't much more than (for Node.js):
getMessaging().subscribeToTopic(['my_token'], '/topics/mytopic')
I'm setting up a React Native app to, essentially, send messages between devices (it's not a chat app in practice but technically that's what it's doing). I've decided to use Firebase and the RN Firebase library to manage this.
I've finally got my iPhone receiving notifications from the Firebase notification composer. But it's saying I need an XMPP server in order to send messages from devices.
I do see the example in the RN Firebase docs but I'm hoping to do this app severless, just using Firebase for messaging, db, what have you.
I'm going through docs on Firebase (searching their site for XMPP) but it's not quickly clear, so I'm posting here to see if anyone can point me to instructions to quickly set this up in Firebase itself without running my own server (or that someone would know whether it's possible).
There is a service that is publishing messages to my Pub/Sub. Via CLI, I know it is receiving properly the messages.
I want to react correspondingly to those messages. However, I want to develop my subscription, via Cloud Functions, in development environment (firebase emulator), so I won't have to wait 5min between each deploy. But, when using functions.pubsub.topic('topicName').onPublish(...), it won't subscribe to the real prod messages, looks like it will only subscribe to the dev env ones.
I want to, in my firebase emulated Sub/Pub, subscribe to prod messages. Is it possible to do it? How?
Still haven't found an "official" way.
What I am doing for now is use ngrok, get the local function url and then enter it in Pub/Sub Subscription in Push mode. It's a longer way and will require updating the ngrok url for each session (as its url changes in free tier), and also to get the data, JSON.parse(Buffer.from(req.body.message.data, 'base64').toString('utf-8')) and still haven't found a way to auth the JWT auth from request.
But, I can now get the Prod messages from my Firebase Emulator, as I want. You may comment here to ask for further infos about that workaround of mine.
I integrated Firebase Cloud Messaging with Unity successfully and I can receive usual messages when I send them from Firebase Console, but I need some extra things.
1 - How can I send my notification as a URL? I mean I want that when user touches the notification it opens the URL that I put in the value in FireBase Console.
2 - How I can send and show a picture and a custom icon in the notification?
Unfortunately, I can't find anything on the internet and official documents confused me.
Is there any way to gain these request only with FireBase SDK?
Thank you.
You have to handle all the messages from FCM manually to get all those features you are looking for. I mean you got the general implementation all the stuff, but you need the unique one. All the notification display settings and notification click handlers have to be implemented on the Android native side.
Probably you will find some interesting FCM asset in the Asset Store with nice notifications customization, not sure. But I would recommend you to surf the Asset Store, maybe there will be some useful packages.
I am trying to make firebase and batch work together so that I can fire push notification when something in firebase db got changed. I followed this tutorial and now i want to make them work automatically and for that i contacted with batch's and they replied me
write your own server-side code to 1. detect Firebase db changes 2. call the Batch API.
For "detect Firebase db changes" I have to create a server-side code which will track changes and call batch's api accordingly. Then follow this documentation for attaching the changed content and send it to appropriate user.
I don't know how to create the server side code. Anyone can give me a quick instructions on it or there's any tutorial related to this?
To write server-side Firebase code you can use the node.js SDK. See https://www.firebase.com/docs/web/quickstart.html (search the page for node.js).
The API is exactly the same as the regular web API except that you'll be writing it as a node.js application that can be run on the server. You can then integrate this with Batch's API.
