I'm trying to migrate my wordpress site to a WAMP hosted localsite so I can have a safe environment to edit the site and learn how wordpress works properly. (before I decided to do this had to rebuild this site from memory 3/4 times because I'm an idiot who didn't realise that backing up is my best friend)

I managed to get my wordpress sort of working using WAMP but not to the desired outcome as you can see in the screenshots provided in the imgur album

So as you can see the content is sort of there but minus the wordpress formatting which you can see on the live site.

F12 in your browser to bring up the developer console. You can probably see a lot of '404 not found errors' where your installation expects files.
Install PhpMyAdmin and enter your database. Check the table wp_options. There should be two entries (siteurl and home ), ensure they are correct for your local installation.
Even simpler if you use WPTunnel for this purpose.
It creates a local WordPress installation inside a Docker container and proxies it to yoursubdomain.wptunnel.com:

I tried to follow this tutorial on how to migrate a live wordpress site to localhost.
I was semi-successful in that when I open the site locally, it appears to be the exact replica of live site.
However, I encountered two issues.
1) When I try to log into wordpress dashboard on local host, it takes me back to live-server dashboard
2) When I click anywhere on the local site, it takes me back to the live site.
Any advice would be appreciated as I have been trying to migrate the site for weeks now,

Most likely the problem is that your database needs updating to reflect the URL change. Via PHPmyadmin, find your database, go to wp_options and update "siteurl" and "home" to reflect your local URL.
A alternative to solve the problem is to export the local database with phpmyadmin in an ascii file and with Notepad++ "Search and replace" fix the urls to show the local host.
Amother alternative it whould be, if you have small site, to usr plugin Duplicator , this produce 2 files an install.pho and a zip. You must take the export from web and then erase tle local and rectreate runing http://localhost/mywp/installer.php. This procedure is going to make everything auto.
I am trying to set up a development site on the sub-domain development.warriorsliveon.org of warriorsliveon.org.
This is a WordPress site and I copied the plug-ins, themes, and upload folders to the new WordPress installation on the sub-domain. I also copied the database from warriorsliveon.org, did a find and replace of warriorsliveon.org to development.warriorsliveon.org.
When I go to the site , http://development.warriorsliveon.org. it either switches automatically to the follow address, or other times, lets me log into WordPress, but then goes to this address.

Anyone have any ideas where I should look to resolve this issue?
I'm happy to post any code, just not sure at this point what would be useful. Any help is appreciated!
Changing the Domain Name that your Wordpress installation runs under is more complicated than just editing one or two files. The best approach is to use a tool like https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/
If you download this free tool and upload to your server then it does a batch find-and-replace across every single table in your Wordpress database.
So, for example, replace http://www.warriorsliveon.org with http://development.warriorsliveon.org
You can do a dry run and it will show you all the replaces that it will make. Once you're happy then click the "live run" button and all the changes are made.
I use this tool all the time when I am moving a site from my local machine to the live server. I also use the exact same approach when migrating a site from http to https
http://sidparmar.ca/portfolio/ This is my portfolio website and an only home page is working with the domain name. Every link is broken unless replaced by IP of my VPS which is 64.20.53.42.
So usually it should work like sidparmar.ca/portfolio/contact/ (give me an error "The requested URL /portfolio/resume/ was not found on this server.")
but currently, it is only working if I type 64.20.53.42/portfolio/contact/ as URL.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions/advice or pointer that I should look into. Any help is appreciated.
Has your site been like this since you installed Wordpress? If so, then where did you install wordpress (i.e. what directory)? It looks like you did not install it in the web root directory of your web server. Also, when you installed Wordpress, are you sure you specified the correct URL of your website?
My suggestion based on the limited information you provided and the minor amount of custom content of your website is to simply delete your database and files, create a new database, and re-installation Wordpress following exactly the correct instructions. Your VPS host may have an outlined process for you.
Alternatively, if this is a new issue, do you think you caused it? If so, what did you do? If not, you should probably contact your VPS host to see if you or they need to make an update in your DNS settings.
Found the answer by myself! Yeah!
I just added "ServerAlias www.domainname.ca" to my apache2 conf file (000-default.conf) which you can probably find at /etc/apache2/sites-available directory in your VPS.
Not sure why this worked or what exactly caused the problem but I am sure that it happened because of Yoast SEO plugin.
I have never used wordpress before, My boss has given me access to a site which was created using wordpress. then He asked me how I am going to make sure I don't break the site accidentally, I told him I would create a backup on my local computer so that all my changes can be restored if I mess up.
I have the wordpress dashboard up. How do I back up EVERYTHING, I hear there are two separate things I need to back up? someone please help me.
PS: I don't think he would like me to do this with out the use of additional plugins.
There are two separate things:
Your website database. Simply export all the MySQL tables from the database, which is dedicated to your site.
The site files, everything you've got under WordPress folder, /wp-includes, /wp-content, /wp-admin directories and all files.
This should do it all. You can test on your localhost to make sure it's everything that's necessary.
You can backup your WordPress either from your hosting account (preferable) or from your WP dashboard.
You need to backup two things - all the files (the root of your Wordpress installation) and the database for your WP installation.
Since you only have access to the dashboard, you have to use plugin for this.
Two of my favorite free backup plugins are:
BackupWordpress - https://wordpress.org/plugins/backupwordpress/
BackWPup - https://wordpress.org/plugins/backwpup/
They are intuitive and easy to work with, so you shouldn't have issues.
If you go to the dashboard go to "tools" in the left toolbar. Select "export". On the export page you can report that you want to export "all content". This will get you the items that you need from the server.
Then you need to install wordpress to your machine. You can download that from: https://wordpress.org/download/

I am finding some problems uploading a WP site from my local web server to the official online web server.
The situation is the following , on my local web server:
I have installed WP website on my computer
I have configured it
I have installed custom a template
After, I have uploaded this site in a folder on my official online web server. I have took the local database export and imported in the online database using PhpMyAdmin (to export the local database on a file and then to import it on the online database)
Finally I have changed the file wp-config.php changing the MySql connection settings and putting here the settings related to the official online database.
When I try to open the website it appears to me, here you can say how: http://www.scorejava.com/wordpress/
Ok...seems good but there are two problems:
If you try to open an article it is not open the article on the online server but in the localhost server, infact open this URL: [code]http://localhost/wordpress/?p=81[/code]
If I try to open the administration panel opening this URL: [code]http://www.scorejava.com/wordpress/wp-admin/[/code] I obtain a white page
I don't know if these two problems are related together but I think that all may depend due to a problem of location path...
I think that somewhere there is some settings that specify the URL (that can't be localhost...), but (if it is so...) where is this setting? in some file or in the database?
Some one have an idea? Can you help me?

There's a link on there for a "Search and Replace for WordPress Databases Script" tool that's very handy (make sure to read the instructions and have a backup of the db before using it). The problem is that image URL's and other things are stored in the database and will reflect the URL of the dev location. That tool will go through and properly update all instances from the dev URL to the final location.
Normally before you move a WP site you also want to update the site URL in the General settings as well, which may be contributing to your second problem.
