visual studio 2010 "NOT RESPONDING" - compatibility

My problem is that every time I click the "Open" or "Create" project in Visual Studio 2010, my screen will always stuck at (FNOT RESPONDING).
I already used it before but when I uninstalled and reinstalled it again, then this problem happen to me.
What is the best solution for this problem?

Try deleting everything in the %temp% directory, because even if you uninstalled it, there will be stuff left in the temp folder, if that didn't work try uninstall it with powerful tools like IObit Uninstaller.
If that didn't work either, try and report your problem to Microsoft using this email address : vsfeedback [at] microsoft [dot] com, they will respond immediately, another option that i can recommend is to install Visual Studio Community 2017, it's completely free.
Finally i hope that i can you with your problem :)

Can't find web application template in Visual Studio 2015 Community

I have installed Visual Studio Community 2015 (DreamSpark program) on my Windows 10 N 64 bit machine.
But when I want to create a new web project, I can't see anything related to this.
So I launched the setup and watched if the "Web development tools" was checked or not and it was.
I unchecked it, then clicked next so VS Setup uninstalled these tools.
Then I re-launched the setup and checked it to install the "Web development tools" but it does not solve my problem.
I tried uninstalling, clearing all caches, install VS 2015 with another ISO re-downloaded in case that a file was corrupted or whatever, but I still have got this issue.
I tried to install manually Web Application templates using devenv /installVSTemplates -> does not work neither.
I tried to follow this article : http://blogs.msdn.com/b/heaths/archive/2015/07/17/removing-visual-studio-components-left-behind-after-an-uninstall.aspx
in order to remove all components related to VS left after a classic uninstallation but the setup encounters a fatal error..
I really need to work for my studies and I don't know what to do to make it work. I tried everything I've found on the web, tried to clean with CCleaner + manually delete cache folder ect..
But I still can't create a new web project because it just does not appear.
In Nugget Package Manager (inside VS), I can see that the ASP.NET package is installed (forgot the exact name but, this is the package related to what I am looking for) and I can't uninstall it to try a re-installation.
I'm trying to solve my probleme since 2 weeks ago but I still have got this issue.
Sorry for english mistakes.
Best regards,
Just to double check
Go to control panel "Add / remove programs" -> "Visual 2015" -> "Modify" , check that "Web developer tools" checked.
After reinstalling everything should reappear.
If you have already done this try..
(1) Please make sure that it is the latest windows 10 run windows update
(2) Run the command line:
Please check this folder in your system:
/Common7/IDE
You will find projecttemplate and itemtemplate, and you will also find projecttemplatecache and itemtemplatecache which are related to this templates issue, maybe you could remove them, and then run the following commands and see whether it can help you create the item/project templates.
devenv /installvstemplates.
devenv /ResetSettings.
Hopefully this fixes the issues
You can download this tutorial at http://blogs.msdn.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/communityserver-blogs-components-weblogfiles/00-00-01-44-28-Documents/8420.Quick_5F00_Start_5F00_Azure_5F00_Webapp.pdf
Please also make sure that you are trying to add this item under a directory which can hold this type of file.
Go to Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE. Rename ProjectTemplatesCache folder and restart Visual Studio

Context menu has no "Add Scaffolding" nor "Add Controller" options

I'm trying to get started with ASP.NET/C#, and I'm doing so by following along some guides and tutorials.
One major issue I keep running into is that I have no Add Scaffolding in the context menu, nor Add Controller. I can't figure out a workaround for the lack of the Add Scaffolding.
There are various relate posts on SO. I will address some:
How to Add Controller
The accepted answer says something that directly contradicts my experience. There is no Add Controller option anywhere.
Reload the project
Reinstall suggested in this comment
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several versions. So far I've tried VS2013 Express for Web, VS2013 Community, and right now I'm using VS2013 Ultimate. Each one has had a fresh install installed within the month.
Add a guid
I tried adding a guid to a .proj file, an idea from another question at the moment of which I cannot find.
Same issue in Sep 2014, no answer
I realize there are several questions with the same issue, but none of the answers address my situation. Of the solutions I've seen proposed, I can't get any of them to work. Maybe I'm copying the guid's in the wrong place, maybe I'm not uninstalling correctly, I'm not sure.
I haven't yet tried to uninstall everything related to VS. I have a lot of random product on this machine. I wasn't aware that, for example, "Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime (x64) or Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2.0 - ENU could disrupt VS2013 features. If anyone has information about this please let me know. I don't know the extent to which I would have to uninstall stuff in order to find the root of this issue. My Programs and Features menu is littered with MS product that I can barely tell apart.
EDIT:
Some Background Info:
I am using Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 Version 12.0.31101.00 Update 4, and Microsoft .NET Framework Version 4.5.50938.
I used no special install instructions.
It's a web application. File > New Project... > Installed..Templates..Visual C#..Web..ASP.NET Web Application > MVC.
Upon Dleh's suggestion, I looked for the Add > ... buttons after changing the project type. I selected File > New Project ... > Visual Studio 2012 > ASP.NET MVC 4 Web Application (.NET Framework 4.5.1) > Internet Application, and I am confused to report that there is an Add > Controller... button. I have no idea what is happening.
Also, of note, I (within the week) installed VS2013 Ultimate on my home machine, and I have having none of these issues.
I believe I have solved the issue, but I don't know exactly what I did.
One answer from here was part of what prompted me to uninstall a number of MS products and features. Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact program or feature I uninstalled.
It seems like the uninstalling of related programs and features fixed the issue. By "related programs and features" I mean anything in the Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features menu that had ".NET" or "Visual Studio" or "Microsoft * Web Tools" or of the like. Many of them required a system reboot after uninstalling, and after one system reboot, the desired features in VS2013 was there.
There were on the order of 20-30 MS+VS+.NET related programs, and I uninstalled about 15.
I can't remember exactly which one I uninstalled, but it was anything that look remotely old and related to VS or .NET. Even if it was recent, I always figured I could reinstall stuff if I got the wrong thing.
Hopefully, anyone going through a similar issue will find this helpful. Good luck.
Had the same issue, installing
AspNetWebTools2013_1Setup.exe
WebToolsExtensionsVS.msi
fixed it for me.

Visual Studio 2010 issue properties not updating when clicking on a control (gridview)

My hard drive died recently so I had to install visual studio 2010 all over again. With this version of VS anytime I click on a control (like text box or gridview) the properties section doesn't update. Even when i right click on the control and click view properties it doesn't update ... The only way i can get the properties tab to update is by building the project (but i have to do this every time i want to view properties of a control). I have uninstalled and reinstalled (VS 2010 and SP1) but neither have had an effect on the issue.
I have also tried turning off the add-ons as i thought this might affect performance (but not joy). I also have Visual Studio 2008 and this works perfectly.
Its like as if the application isn't refreshing or something ? And the build is forcing a refresh ?
Well turns out it was McAfee Virus Scanner !!!!!!!
So annoying, i turned On-Access Virus Scanning OFF and everything worked :-)
Unfortunately the On-Access Virus Scanning turns itself back on after a few hours so I have added Visual Studio and my files location to the exclusion list and this works !
Hopefully someone else will find this useful

Visual Studio 2008 IDE freezes/crashes when opening .aspx file with css included [duplicate]

This question already has answers here:
Visual Studio 2008 hangs while opening aspx/ascx file
(10 answers)
Closed 7 years ago.
Visual Studio (SP1) runs fine until I try and view .aspx source files with the lines
<style type="text/css">
</stlye>
anywhere in them, upon which it freezes (i.e is totally unresponsive) and I have to use the task manager to shut it down.
I have read a lot of questions about Visual Studio 2008 crashing on viewing some source files. However, I still can't fix this problem.
I have systematically deleted and re-included all other code and it comes down to these two lines, which is very confusing. Sometimes it happens as soon as the lines are added, sometimes it doesn't freeze until I build the solution with any of the problem pages open. I can add external style sheets, and it only started recently.
I had Resharper 4.5 installed and have since uninstalled it, and do not have anything else installed.
Also, it happens to other people with the same source code, and re-installing Visual Studio does not fix the problem. So I have several questions:
Is there any way I can find out what's happening?
I don't understand how the code (the css tag itself) could crash Visual Studio, and am thinking that this is unlikely and it must be something else within my solution, would this be a safe assumption?
Could this have anything to do with installing Office 2010?
Thanks in advance to anyone who has ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem.
Edit:
I didn't find a good answer for this question, but found that installing Visual Studio 2010 and using it instead of Visual Studio 2008 fixed the problem. I have marked the answer below as right as it gave me an idea on where to start looking.
So from this I am going to conclude that this is some sort of Visual Studio bug, but would be happy to see more information if any one else encounters this problem or can shed any light on it!
The above should work - I actually used the solution here - repair office 2010 web authoring components - http://www.ariankulp.com/archive/2010/03/02/web-form-designer-lockup-in-visual-studio-2008.aspx
MSDN Code Gallery shows 45 items tagged Visual Studio 2008 and hotfix. it's very hard to search for your problem with keywords, but browsing through the 45 might help.
I just ran into a similar problem (VS2008 freezing every time I tried to open the Manage Styles / Apply Styles / CSS Properties windows).
What fixed it for me was:
Uninstall Microsoft Visual Studio
Web Authoring Component
Reinstall
Microsoft Visual Studio Web
Authoring Component from the VS DVD
(just run
WCU\WebDesignerCore\WebDesignerCore.Exe; it doesn't have a UI, so you just have to wait for it to finish).

Design view not working in Web Projects in Visual Studio 2008

When I try to edit an ASPX file with the Design View it freezes for a moment and does nothing, not even an error message.
Looking through menus I've seen some strange things:
If I go to Tools->Options->HTML Designer it gives me no options on the right panel, just a "Error loading property page" message.
When I try to open a file using "Open With..." there should be something like "Web Form - Editor", but it is missing and I can only open them using Code View.
I've tried repairing Visual Studio and reinstalling WebDesignerCore, but nothing works. Anyone had the same problem?
This seems to be a known bug with Visual Studio 2008 - you could try the hotfix for this issue.
Tools > options > international settings, then set the language to English solved my problem.
Not a final solution but I installed Visual Web Developer Express and then associated aspx files to %Program Files%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\VWDExpress.exe
Getting closer to the final solution. If I start a Windows session with another user, the designer works as it should, although when I go back to the first user it still doesn't work.
