This is a sample scenario:
In a blog website, many bloggers publish his posts.
You can find a post through a search box.
You can read the post on a page.
And this is the requirement: Create a blogger's dashboard, connect with Google Analytics and show reports.
Report by pageview. To do that I'm looking at:
ga('set', 'blogger_id', '1234');
Report by items showed in the results list (from the search box). To do that I'm looking at send item hits for each result in the list.
ga('send', {
hitType: 'item',
blogger_id: 1234,
item_id: 9
});
I'm able to connect with GA Api. But I'm not sure how to filter this data and report to the blogger only analysis based on his posts. Could you confirm me if I am on the way to go? If not, could you provide me how to proceed?
Thanks

Lets say I have 100 customers that bought a website from me. In the footer of their websites I have the text "Website developed by:" followed by a link that points to my company website. In Google Analytics for my company website these referrals will show up with the customers URL as source, and "referral" as medium. I would like all of the referrals from my 100 customer websites to be grouped, so that i can view the total metrics together. I have tried using utm_source="Customer Website" on the referral links, but the utm_source overwrites the default source (that is the customer website URL) so that there is no way for me to separate the different websites.
How can I set up this in Google Analytics so that I can both view all of the referrals from customer websites together and separately?
You can use utm_campaign=Customer-Referral and then see all this data under one campaign on Google Analytics.
You can direct the traffic to the destination page but with a dummy query string parameter such as www.example.com?ref=client, and then see the traffic that is directed to this specific page on Google Analytics.
Based on the ref, you can inject a user-level custom dimension that will show you data of that specific group. What you should add is ga('set', 'dimension1', 'Client Referral');
Add it to your tracking code before ga('send', 'pageview'); You need to send this data only once, at the first page view. You can read more about it here: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/platform/customdimsmets
(note: I used dimension1 assuming that you don't have existing custom dimensions. If you already using slot no. 1, update it to another slot).
For marketing purposes, if a link to our company website is posted on a page on an external website. Is it possible to track the time in which the user landed on the external website and clicked on the link to our company website, using custom tracking ?
I have been reading about custom GA tags however am having a hard time understanding how to make the above possible.
Thanks in advance!
You cannot track an external website, as you can only track sites where you control the tracking code.
If you have control over the external site and have implemented analytics tracking there you would
create a timestamp on page load
add an onclick event handler to the link to your site
in the callback function for that link create another timestamp, substract the original timestamp to get a duration
send a user timing call:
ga('send', 'timing', 'Link', 'Duration to click', duration);
Where the "duration" parameter would be replaced with your timestamp.
As I've said that would only work if you can run your own Google Analytics on the external site which does not seems very likely. Plus I have really no idea what you mean by "custom GA tags" (there are custom variables and custom dimensions/metrics, both of which will not help you here).
So basically the anwser is you can't, really.
Can anyone please help me clarify below queries?
Including GA code two times in a same page cause double visitor counts?
Using below/event code directly on the page, does it creates an events directly in the GA portal? Or first do we have to create 'Video' as event first in the GA portal and then call this so that it will map itself?
Ex: _gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'Videos', 'Play', 'Gone With the Wind']);
In google chrome extensions, while publishing it will asks for the GA id, and we provide, and if we keep main GA code in the extension pages(popup.html) too, then does it count as twice?
1. Including GA code two times in a same page cause double visitor counts?
If it's the same code pointing to the same account# and you aren't doing anything inbetween like deleting cookies, then no, it will not cause double visitor count. However, it will cause double page view count.

Traditional GA does not require you to do anything special in the interface for this. You should see "Video" show up as a value in the Category dimension automatically.

I think you may be confusing your Google Developer Account ID with the Account# associated with your google analytics account, but if your extension outputs GA code and there is also GA code on the page and it points to the same account, then yes, it will count some things twice (see your first question).
To be clear, every time a _trackPageview is invoked, a page view will be tracked. So if you have multiple calls to that then it will count multiple times. If the visitor cookie isn't reset or broken, it will count as the same visit(or).
I am now assigned to support GA reporting. The current email reports show the top 10 pages visited, but the total shows the full total page hits. So if you add up the top ten it does not come up to the total because it is missing page hits that do not belong to the top 10.
I am trying to modify the email reports so they show all page hits on all pages. I have googled and looked at the FAQ's in GA and can not seem to modify the reports. Does anyone know how I can do this? Thanks.
It sounds like your report is based off a dashboard rather than a generic google analytics report such as the report in Behavior > All Pages.
What you can do is schedule an email based off the Behavior > All Page report by going to that report and selecting the "Email" option.
I'm new to google analytics and I'm a little confused on how to get an unpaid campaign up and runnning. I'm making the campaign in order to track links to a page from different sources (website buttons, emails, newsletters, etc.). What I'm trying to do is set something up in GA so that I can track how people are getting to a specified page. I've been reading this as well:
https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033863?hl=en&ref_topic=1032998
Do I have to create the campaign in google analytics (and if so where) or do I just apply the appropriate campaign/tracking tags to the links I need tracked and it automatically creates it? Also, how would this work with emails?
Thanks for any help!
Essentially, you will build the campaign tracking URL in URL Builder and put those links in your email, newsletter, etc. Once visitors start to click the links via the email, a campaign will be created under Acquisition > Campaigns.
You do not need create campaigns at Google Analytics: when you tagged campaign manually or at URL builder, your campaign data(source name,campaigh name and others) will be categorized by Google Analytics automatically.
GA parses tags at your links and save data about you campaigns.
