I am not sure what started it, but now suddenly when trying to use Atom (on Ubuntu Linux), it opens fine, but keeps focus on the upper-left text of the open tab. For instance, if I try to click somewhere else in the file to move, the cursor, the cursor jumps back to the beginning of the file. If I click on another tab to look at a different file, it immediately jumps back to the original tab, upper left corner of the text. If I hit ctrl-f to search for something, focus jumps back to the text editor. If I try to switch to a different application like Chrome or the terminal window, Atom immediately comes back into focus.
Has anyone else run into this behavior or maybe knows what's going on?
I tried purging and re-installing but am still running into the same behavior.
I figured out that the behavior presents itself any time I try to edit a .ts file, at which point it automatically opens a file "child.js" in the TypeScript plugin directory and begins to display this behavior. I updated the TypeScript plugin and that seemed to fix it. Maybe this can be of help to anyone else who runs into the issue. (Bug link: https://github.com/TypeStrong/atom-typescript/issues/1098)

Sometimes, for a reason I don't understand, mouse reporting prints those characters in the console uppon scolling clicking etc.
If I disable then re-enable mouse reporting then scrolling and clicking comes back as expected.
How do I debug the source of this "switch"? I don't even know where to start to understand what might happen in my console for this so happen.
local (remote) setup: zsh 5.7.1 (5.4.2) + oh-my-zsh (latest as of today)
I have not been able to figure out what triggered this weird behaviour but 2 simple simple fixes are
turn on/off mouse reporting in the preferences
re-source ~/.zshrc
Just press cmd+R. It fixed the problem for me
Sorry if this is the wrong place to answer but I found no other community which could help me with this. I accidentally closed the left-sidebar that shows the currently open project and it's files. Not sure what it's called, maybe navigation, folder view, either way, I tried pressing nearly every key combination to no results. I tried searching in the command palette for something that looked like "open project sidebar" but nothing. Now I'm stuck having no idea how to restore my primary navigation means when working with Atom. I tried opening multiple projects but I just get a black screen without the project sidebar, like it was hidden.
Any ideas?

You should be able to enable it via command pallete or ctrl + ,
It depends on your OS. On Mac OS X, it's CMD-\ (Command-Backslash) to toggle it. The option located on the View menu, called Toggle Tree View (the last menu option).
this is driving me crazy. Everytime I click on the terminal, I get text output but the click does not happen. I can't select anything, scroll on the terminal or perform any mouse operations.
For example, if I click I get things like "TB#TB", which is "TB" when I click and "#TB" when I release the click. If I scroll I get 'UC'` for every scroll of the wheel. Total rubbish.
I'm using cygwin to connect to a redhat machine and it happens only for this one machine. If I connect to a different one, also running redhat, it doesn't happen, so I think the issue is on the remote machine's side. It's also independent of what shell I'm using.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I discovered that pressing shift returns all the usual mouse functionality. I wonder why.
This is more like a "come down to your machine and solve problem"
You must have save default setting for that particular machine to direct it to shift option. As you said shift solves the problem.
You should reset the settings.

Since starting to use XCode 4.2 I've more-or-less routinely had the error:
with various substitutions for the filename. This is normally when Xcode is doing an autosave, so it happens seemingly at random. I generally click "Save Anyway" and my recent edits are then preserved, although there is a significant probability that Xcode will then hang. I don't typically lose much when it hangs, other than a minute to shoot it and get it to restart, but still...
I don't open any of these files in any application except XCode. I have not been able to figure out the pattern, although it may have to do with popping back and forth between files. The last time I noticed it, I also noticed that the previous round of edits to that file hadn't taken. So some other editor had not saved the file.
Enough preamble: here's the question:
Are others running into this? Has anyone narrowed down what causes it? Is there a setting I can change to prevent it? Is there something I can change in my behaviour?
You will get this happening when
1) There are locally unsaved modifications (the navigator icon will be shaded)
2) AND something else has changed the file outside of Xcode. For me this occurs when I do an external update from svn on the command line or via Versions
What do you have that is modifying and saving the file outside of Xcode? Anything?
Check your source control (if any) and figure out if something you are doing is causing the conditions to be met.
Well I had the same problem when I was trying to Localize my files. Then I noticed that every time the message was popping up was because the icon of the selected file in the Project Navigator was grey, which means that was not saved. So what I did was to save the file (Cmd+S) before doing the action that made the "changed by another application" message to appear, in my case the Localize button.
I just upgraded to Xcode 4, and I'm trying to open a project I created with the previous Xcode, but when I open it, after about 1 second, it hides all the folders and inline projects in the project navigator, and only shows the "resources" folder. Strange behavior. I can compile and run, but I can't edit my files from xcode any more.
Anyone else see this?
#haider I had the same issue with XCode 4.3, tried the above recipe, but it did not work for me. Here is the correct answer to prevent this from happening and get it to work right:
There's a tiny row of icons to the left of the search box under the left hand nav. The first of these is a '+' (to add a file). The icons following the add-a-file icon are actually filters that can be toggled on and off. The first of these looks like a clock, and is a filter to show only-recently-modified files, the second to show files-with-source-control status and so on. I must have accidentally picked the first icon after the '+' (show only recently-modified files) and therefore had the problem. The XCode UI preserves that pick even when you close the project so closing and re-opening does not alleviate the situation.
Don't know why it fixed, but it did. After closing down xcode and restarting several times, it ended up working ok again. Strange
