we are planning to upgrade from alfresco 4.2 to alfresco 5.0.Currently in prod env,Alfresco 4.2 and solr4 are in different boxes i.e tomcat servers.I dont know how they have deployed these instances at that time.
Now how to install alfresco 5.0 and solr4 in different boxes?Do we need to use same installer file for alfresco 5 & solr4 as well and install it in different boxes?
When we installed in local windows, both alfresco and solr4 comes in the same tomcat instance.but in linux , how to install it in different boxes?
The documentation is a good resource for this.
You can run the installer on your Alfresco server and then run it again on the Solr server. On the Alfresco server, delete the solr4 WAR. And on the Solr server, delete everything but the Solr4 WAR.
In alf_data, there is a keystore directory that needs to be identical on both servers.
You'll need to edit alfresco-global.properties on the Alfresco box to point to the Solr host.
And, you'll need to edit the alfresco-global.properties on the Solr box to point to the solr indices.
Between the docs and these tips you should be able to figure it out.

I have Alfresco Community v5.1 installed on my machine locally and have created a BPMN model in Eclipse using the Activiti project plugin, I have the BPMN and other xml files, but I do not know how to deploy the same in Alfresco Community V5.1.0.
Files that I have created:
The BPMN file
activiti-model.xml
content-model.xml
model-context.xml
share-config-custom.xml
Where do I paste or update these files in the Alfresco Community installed locally and what are the clear steps to deploy the newly created workflow into the Alfresco Community.
I have followed this tutorial by Jeff Pots:
http://ecmarchitect.com/images/articles/alfresco-workflow/advanced-workflow-article-2ed.pdf
but, was not able to deploy, please help me find this.
Alfresco Version:
Alfresco Share v5.1.f (r125711-b6, Aikau 1.0.63, Spring Surf 5.1.f, Spring WebScripts 6.5, Freemarker 2.3.20-alfresco-patched, Rhino 1.7R4-alfresco-patched, Yui 2.9.0-alfresco-20141223)
Alfresco Community v5.1.0 (r127059-b7) schema 10001
Thank you all!
Deploy in Alfresco goes throu AMPs or JARs packages. Try to run first tutorial from jpotts https://ecmarchitect.com/alfresco-developer-series-tutorials/maven-sdk/tutorial/tutorial.html.
You need run Alfresco SDK, create changes, build packages and then deploy them on server (locally or remote). Its not so simple as replacing some files... If you working with old Alfresco 5.1, use old SDK 3.0 and old version of tutorial. If you started with sixth tutorial in Alfresco, it is normal to get lost.
I'm currently use OpenDJ 2.6.4 in Suse Linux 11 and my goal is to upgraded to Directory Services 6.5.
From what I read, especialy on Chapter 9. Before You Upgrade
and Chapter 10. Upgrading a Directory Server, the process seems pretty simple, i.e, after checking Java version, backup and disable stuff we just need to execute the upgrade command.
This process run well or it's harder as it look?
From what I read on several release notes, i don't expect to have big changes on my current web application, is that right?
That is correct, there should be no change to the applications (since the interface is standard LDAPv3).
If your OpenDS service is replicated, you can upgrade one server after another, with zero downtime for the overall service.
When upgrading from 2.6, you will probably need to upgrade the Java runtime as well, since DS 6.5 requires Java 8 (and also supports 11).
So, stop a server, backup the whole server, unzip DS 6.5, upgrade Java to 8+, run upgrade, start-ds.
You might want to test the upgrade process on a dev environment. If you don’t have a dev env yet, you can create one by just copying the whole OpenDJ 2.6.4 directory and databases to a different location or another server.
Some times ago, I used Alfresco 5.2 CE. When I needed to develop some kind of customization, I used the Alfresco Maven SDK with three different Maven archetypes, it was:
Alfresco Repository AMP;
Alfresco Share AMP;
Alfresco all-in-one (AIO).
By using this SDK I developed AMP files that overlaid on either the alfresco.war or share.war by using the module management tool (MMT):
...
java -jar bin/alfresco-mmt.jar install amps/some-customization-share.amp tomcat/webapps/share.war -force
java -jar bin/alfresco-mmt.jar install amps/some-customization-repo.amp tomcat/webapps/alfresco.war -force
...
Now I am using Alfresco 4.2.2 Enterprise and looking for the right way to do the same things that I did with Alfresco 5.2 CE.
Let's say, I want to develop a two tier Spring Surf customization that can remotely connect to different repositories. Or, for example, I need to develop a new Spring Surf page for a site, or just make some little changes in some FTL-template.
What is the right way? Is there a similar SDK for Alfresco 4.2.2 Enterprise?
I would be very grateful for the information. Thanks to all.
The Maven-based Alfresco 3.0 SDK is compatible with Alfresco 4.2, both Enterprise and Community Edition.
I have project in my application containing only resource files, one default "en-GB" and the other "cy-GB". The solution builds on my local machine but fails when pushed to the build server for publishing with the following error:
[AL] C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\14.0\bin\Microsoft.Common.CurrentVersion.targets(3266, 5): error MSB3086: Task could not find "AL.exe" using the SdkToolsPath "" or the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SDKs\NETFXSDK\4.6\WinSDK-NetFx40Tools-x86". Make sure the SdkToolsPath is set and the tool exists in the correct processor specific location under the SdkToolsPath and that the Microsoft Windows SDK is installed
When I look on the build server (Windows 2008 R2) this registry key doesn't exist. The .NET Framework 4.6 has been installed and has been building fine until the introduction of this new project. I have read numerous previous posts on similar issues:
MSBuild on CI Server can't find AL.exe
Task could not find "AL.exe" TFS 2013
Could someone point me in the right direction? Could this be a problem with my solution or possibly something missing from the build server hence the registry key not being there?
My team has developed a Plone site using 4.3 and put it on a virtual server. Although I am able to manage many settings as an admin user through the Plone site over the server, when I try to install more add-on and themes to the site, I realize I don't have its buildout nor any file on my Plone5.0 folder. Is there a way for me to pull down that Plone site to my local machine, and create an identical site using Zope instance? Thanks!
Buildout is not 'managed' TTW (through the web), you must have access to the server filesystem where the Plone is hosted. The buildout automates the installation and/or configuration of Plone and their additional components (like a webserver, cache service etc.), but not only Plone, and many other softwares built with python (or not).
From buildout.org website: "Buildout is a Python-based build system for creating, assembling and deploying applications from multiple parts, some of which may be non-Python-based."
In your case, you can't simply manage a Plone instance in 4.3 through another remote one in 5.0 (not even with same version, as far I know). Well, at least, not without ZEOCluster (and the versions should match).
The unified installer from Plone.org is based on buildout and is well commented (check for files named buildout.cfg, base.cfg, develop.cfg etc.).
To upgrade your plone site from 4.3 to 5.0 you can check this link: http://docs.plone.org/manage/upgrading/, section "Upgrading Plone 4.x to 5.0" The migration should be more simple than older versions like 3.x or 2.x.
You also can use collective.transmogrify (and friends - jsonify, dexterity, filesystem etc.) to 'copy' contents from your live plone 4.3 to a local development in 4.3. In most cases, those tools are recommended for large Plone sites (less than ~100 contents can be a overkill), in my opinion. So, then you can upgrade the 4.3 instance to 5.0 locally. That's the roughly way to do so. Anyway you should have access to the buildout on both Plone instances (local/remote) and a good knowledge of the Plone ecosystem (Zope, ZoDB, Python etc.).
Check if your Plone instance contains content types developed with Archetypes (AT), because, Plone 5 uses the Dexterity content type as default, no more AT. The builtin content types in Plone (folder, file, image etc) can be upgraded by plone.app.contenttypes, but custom content (add-ons) should be migrated by a developer or their maintainer.
