Paypal Payment Data Transfer - asp.net

I am new to paypal and I just have a simple question. I am using an ASP.NET page to make a payment to paypal. I have a sandbox account. My buyers account is decreasing, my facilitators account balance is increasing the sandbox transactions are successful. Now I need a way to tell my application that the transaction was successful so I can update a database.
My question is this, have Payment Data Transfer (PDT) been replaced by webhooks? Should have a service and configure an endpoint to listen for the webhook from paypal. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using the REST API, then yes you should use Webhooks. If you are using the Classic APIs, then you should use IPN.

Subscriptions in PayPal

I am working on integrating Recurring Payments functionality in Asp.Net based application where people can subscribe to a Service where they will be paying a monthly amount. I am trying to achieve the same using PayPal's Subscription APIs. One another aspect is where people will be making payments using their Credit Card instead of PayPal's account. I have tried to search for a sample code where I can see that Credit Card information is passed to the Subscription API but unable to find the same. Can anyone points me to a sample code where this is implemented or guide me on how I can do this?
PayPal does provide a Subscription only API for PayPal payments or Guest Checkout where buyer's prompt to create PayPal personal account. To achieve a Credit card subscription I'd reckon to refer to Braintree Vaulting functionality wherein you can have both Credit Card & PayPal.
Braintree Vault Overview:
Our Braintree Vault securely stores customer information – including payment method information – so you can safely keep customers on file.
The Vault is used to process payments with our recurring billing feature, and can also be used for non-recurring transactions so your customers don't need to re-enter their information each time they make a purchase from you.

How do I fetch the Transaction ID from PayPal website to my web site?

I am using Paypal sandbox testing module in my Shopping cart site. I have test account in paypal sandbox. i am sending amount to paypal. After payment success when retun back to my web page I want to get transaction id and amount.Kindly help me.
You probably want to use Paypal IPN. You can get the Paypal transaction id, amount, and a slew of other information, using Paypal IPN. Basically, this is where Paypal will do an https post back to your site after a transaction, and send all of the info for the transaction. See https://developer.paypal.com/webapps/developer/docs/classic/ipn/integration-guide/IPNIntro/ for info.
You need to specify redirect url.You can have two urls one for success and other for failure.Thats how i implemented it in one of my project (Dont have it now with me for reference).
Take a look here or here. This link has an sample project. It may help.

Payflow Pro API for retrieving reference transactions

We have integrated Payflow pro payment gateway into our website and processing payment requests using Payflow as payment gateway and storing payflow transaction id as a part of response into our database.
We need to retrieve transaction history for specific transaction Id as shown in PayPal manager.
So please suggest me appropriate API for retrieving Reference transactions on basis of specific transaction Id as soon as possible.
Looking forward for your feedback.
You could get information back about transactions a couple of different ways. You could either use the inquiry by setting TRXTYPE=I or by using the Reporting API's.

how do I enable digital delivery in the new paypal sandbox

I'm recreating my test environment. I created new business and buyer accounts. I setup the business account as best as I remember including the IPN info.
I attempt to make a purchase using ExpressCheckOut and I get back an error message:
You are not signed up to accept payment for digitally delivered goods.
We are selling a subscription so we are in fact performing a digital delivery. Seems like I remember having to get a PayPal CS person to enable this feature on our live account. Is there something special I need to do in the sandbox?
I opened a new PayPal account to replace my developer account. It doesn't seem like a good idea to use the company live account. Is this unexpected?
The setting needs to be enabled via PayPal agents. Go ahead and send me an email via my profile details including your test account email address and I will enable this for you.

Asp.net, paypal and IPN.. how to automate payment?

i'm trying to integrate Paypal in an asp.net app.
It works fine, the last thing i would like to do is to automize payment notify.
In particular, how does it works IPN ? I would like to set a field to 1 when a user buy a service... How can i do with ipn ?
I'm asking here to avoid to read all 120 pages of paypal IPN documentation... ;)
Thanks in advance...
Theres lots of examples out there on how to build a basic IPN listener. Once you build one and point your PayPal account at it, all transactions will have their details sent to this listener as a request. You will need to parse out the relevant data from this request to determine the success of the transaction and process the order.
